Russian Transport Plane equal to Ju52

I was wondering what plane would suit the Russian transport role during ww2.
After a bit of research I realised that the Russians built a DC-3 under license, named the Li-2.
As most of you probably know the DC-3 was just as legendary as the Ju52.
Wouldnt it be nice if this plane was added as a collector plane maybe after the next theater?

This way both factions would have a transport plane and Im sure the multiplayer servers would find a way via mission design to find a good use for them.
Also with a Ju52 and a DC-3 this game would suddenly become a lot interesting for people flying mostly civil simulations.
As to balance i guess the DC-3 is a lot faster than the Ju52 just bsy the looks of the 2 planes.
What do you guys think? Are there maybe other planes that could fill the role for the russians?

If other nationalities and theatres get added, an Li-2/DC3 combo would be a very good idea.  Perhaps doing both simultaneously might be more economical too.

We'll probably need to wait and see what the next chapters are and if the Ju-52 gameplay lives up to player expectations first though.  If it's limited to complex tailor-made missions, doing charity work to benefit other team members and with no scoring to reward the cargo pilot themselves...  then I suspect the new transport craft might be much less popular or lucrative to the Developers than was hoped.

Everything was said above!

Of course, the DC3/LI2 is important , but first, the release of the ju52 has to make its proofs first.

Wait and see...

The point of individual planes is that they dont have to compensate for other nationalities, as they try to do with the 8+2 packs.

The Ju-52 was made because there was a very vocal group of people asking for it and it is also so iconic.

I dont think they will add a counterpart anytime soon. I agree that i would be great in the future, especially because the same 3D model can work for western scenarios (i have no clue whether the engines were different or not).

I dont think the devs are going to spend more time on transports until they flesh out other theatres and gameplay aspects of the sim

Yeah i think the same, the earliest i could hope to see another transport plane is after the full release of the next theater +2 collectore planes + then a lot of patches and AFTER that maybe 2 new collector planes where one could be the Li-2.

The Li-2/DC-3/C-47 would be an awesome plane to have in the game.

It has sweet upgrades, like turrets and bombs...

The Ju-52 isn'T being added because it was a Transport Airplane, but because of it's iconic status as a long obsolete Aircraft that acquired it's Iconic Status through Soldiering on and always reinveinting itself, able to operate from the worst of airfields, a true workhorse.

The russian Counterpiece, a long obsolete Workwhore, operating in the worst of conditions, in large numbers, omnipresent and in some ways the infantries best friend wasn't the Li-2.

It was the Po-2, it served as Ambulance, Liason and Night-Bomber, Reconaissance and Mail-Plane, it served in enormous Numbers, it was a flying piece of feminism.

True the po-2 was already glorious at that time while the DC-3 became famous later that would probably be an even more probable contender for a collector plane

I think the Russians should get a medium bomber first, a DB3F or Il-4. The DC3 or Li-2 has the obvious advantage that they could use the model elsewhere for C-47 or the Japanese copy.

I think in the long run we need a rus transport as it will balance the gameplay capabilities. If not Russians will not have the ability to win a round on such a way. But on the other hand as has been previously stated rus could supply a lot more easily by land so...

Well, the Russians used gliders in some numbers for transport operations (Antonov A-7, KC-20's and the G-11) although that would mean the game would need an SB or DB-3 bomber as a tug aircraft.

However, I agree, the Li-2 would be welcome.

 HI ..

a good bomber for the Russian squad needed.....Il  4

Yes a LI 2 would be welcomed if the russians was equipped with the same amount of bombers as Germany in this game. I am also positive to a PO 2 , but please we need a proper level bomber first. Just face it, we really do not know yet how much a devoted transport as JU 52 going to be used , if at all. Is it not better to get something that will be used, like a IL 4 or A-20 first, then a novelty like LI 2.

With all due respect, LK, I don't think think it really matters how many people will USE it, rather how many people will BUY it. I don't do online, but I've pre-ordered the JU52 just to fly around. If they give it a meaningful online role, I might be tempted to go online after 20 years away from that.

I think the Li-2/PS-84 would be a useful addition as transport/bomber, both for BoM and BoS. In early 1942 it played an important role during the Vyazma airborne operation. In Stalingrad it was used as a bomber by long range aviation (ADD) units, mostly during the night, but there were also some daylight missions.

Its use as bomber was not a stopgap measure. The Li-2 was used in this role till the end of the war in large numbers. After the Il-4 it was the second most important bomber of the ADD.
