II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Not likely. Regardless (or nearly) of where we end up next, the P-39 is likely to be a featured aircraft.

LLv34_Flanker Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 S! I have read quite a few Finnish pilot memoirs and spoken to a few aces too. None of them regarded P-39 as anything special. Most of them considered the Yak-9 to be most of a challenge against the Bf109G-2 and Bf109G-6. P-39 earned a nickname the "rocking chair" as it rocked forth and back while firing the 37mm. Recoil or pilot induced, who knows.

I'm trying to remember the arrangement of forces... weren't most of the P-39s deployed in the North from the earlier batches? Mostly P-400/P-39D and some P-39N? It's the southern fronts that received more of the P-39N and Q models. There are some differences between them and seemingly most of the successful units with the P-39 seem to be in that area too. LLv34_Flanker Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 S! There is at least one translated. Double Fighter Knight Ilmari Juutilainen. He had 94 confirmed kills, unofficial tally 128. Never hit by or shot down by an opposing pilot.
smink1701 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 If we get it hope it doesn't fly like a brick ... Like 190 and P40. 1
