pilotpierre Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 After a couple of hours on the email I went back and had another bash at the LaGG. I think the LaGG is a much nicer bird to fly, especially now the excessive bounce on landing has been toned down considerably. And to really stick the knife in, it is better looking too. Well off to the bomb shelter before the fall out starts. Signed A Nonny Mouse 1
Death1111 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 You can put lipstick on a pig...but it's still a pig The 109 has it hands down in the looks department.....too sexy and very seductive
Creepermoss Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 For good taste to exist, so must bad taste.
Death1111 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 To be fair to the LaGG, bacon does taste quite good....especially in the morning

MarcoRossolini Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 My vote for best looking remains with La-5, closely followed by the Il-2, such fine lines... 1
SYN_Speck Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I wouldn't worry about it too much, Pierre. This crowd doesn't get upset all that easily And yeah, they are both beautiful aircraft.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 ...Oh no you didn't...(insert smack talk of your choice)...your mama...

Well off to the bomb shelter before the fall out starts. Signed A Nonny Mouse +1 I think that the BF-109 is an incredibly lovely machine, but I do like the LaGG-3 a great deal more than the BF-109. The LaGG-3 is just more of a handful, more of a challenge, and I like that about the LaGG-3. Still, as you point out, they are both beautiful aircraft. MJ Edited November 26, 2013 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA
Finkeren Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I concur. As effective and deadly the 109 is, the LaGG makes for a far more thrilling ride. But. In the looks department I have to say the Bf 109 wins hands down. Among Soviet aircraft, there are many beautiful designs: Late Yaks, Pe-2/3, even the LaGGs radial-engined successors, but the LaGG just isn't one of them.
BeastyBaiter Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Long term I think I will like the LaGG-3 more. I prefer the more manual controls, the greater character and the cockpit too. It is clearly the inferior plane in terms of performance but with team work it will do just fine I think. In the short term, I can't say I like flying the LaGG due to its terrible trim issue but that should be resolved eventually.
SYN_Ricky Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 For sure I find the LaGG to be a bit more interesting and a challenge to fly. Now if I have to perform a combat mission I'll probably prefer to be in the 109.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 For sure I find the LaGG to be a bit more interesting and a challenge to fly. Now if I have to perform a combat mission I'll probably prefer to be in the 109. Me too. I landed the 109 first time out, It took quite a few times to get the Lagg to land without breaking anything. I thought the narrow track gear was going to be a problem. It was very smooth tbh. I'm torn, I like them both.
TheCheese Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Haha, I have to say I agree with OP pretty much. 109 looks great, but I've been looking at 109s for so long that they don't evoke as much appreciation as for the LaGG with it's big bag full of character and skins that I like more.
Feathered_IV Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 You can put lipstick on a pig...but it's still a pig The 109 has it hands down in the looks department.....too sexy and very seductive Mmm... Bit too skinny for my liking. Also suffers from Bitchy Resting Face syndrome if you know what I mean.
Finkeren Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 If you really wanna enter the LaGG into a beauty contest, you should go with the early series. The bulges on the cowling makes it look mean, and the pointed spinner and small radiator intake gives it a much sleeker profile. It actually looks sporty, even though it wasn't.
=LD=Hethwill Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 As it is now the Lagg is a more enjoyable bird to fly, even with no trim and stick forward 80% of the time. Salute !
The-Mysteron Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The best looking Sov fighter from ww2 imho is the Mig3 , its a lovely looking machine with its long nose and smooth lines. 3
Sethos Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Yeah, the LaGG is an amazing plane when sitting nose-first in the snow, full of bullet holes and a small cozy fire from its engine. *cough* 1
AndyHill Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The best looking Sov fighter from ww2 imho is the Mig3 , its a lovely looking machine with its long nose and smooth lines. This is the correct answer.
Kaenzdhi Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I love all russian panes, because they have something special, a true labor of love , like......Il2:BOS
BeastyBaiter Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The MiG-3 is the sexiest MiG ever build imho.
Finkeren Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The MiG is too hot for words. Not just the sexiest fighter of its era, but propably of all time. Among early war VVS fighters it's propably something like this: Yak = Lennon MiG = McCartney LaGG = Harrisson I-16 = Ringo
Finkeren Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 As said before: The early series LaGGs could be considered beautiful as well. Crap picture, I know, but those are some pretty sexy lines.
rockhpi Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I agree. The MiG-3 is one of the most beautiful planes ever, perhaps just behind the Spit I. The La-5 looks like a brute to me - it's the kind of thing i think of if I imagine a Russian design. Like the Hind - it just looks tough and brutal. which is a different kind of beauty.
razer1 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Well I just booted up the sim put the 109 on autopilot haven't learnt to fly it yet bloody beautiful.
DD_bongodriver Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I'd give my left nut to climb into any single engine fighter from WWII and early post war, they 'all' have beauty........well apart from those pug ugly ones like I-16's and Buffalo's.......no offence to pugs.
Stray Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The MiG is too hot for words. Not just the sexiest fighter of its era, but propably of all time. Among early war VVS fighters it's propably something like this: Yak = Lennon MiG = McCartney LaGG = Harrisson I-16 = Ringo All the 109 pilots will have to go "Dimmu Borgir" on your "The Beatles".
Dooga Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I agree with the OP too... But one of the reasons is that the Bf109 has almost no systems modelled. If it at least had the prop pitch working... plus it bounces around on landing like a mad cow, but that could be me ;-)
mudpuppy Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Thinking of Finkeren's comments: Among early war VVS fighters it's propably something like this: Yak = Lennon MiG = McCartney LaGG = Harrisson I-16 = Ringo What comparison might folks make for the early German fighters; Bf-109, Fw-190 & Bf-110? (I should add I was never a fan of the Lagg-3 till I began studying it in anticipation of this (alpha)sim's release. My opinion has changed, honestly. Yefim Gordon's book on Soviet Aviation in WWII has some great details on it's evolution.) Edited November 26, 2013 by mudpuppy
Mogster Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I much prefer the view from the Lagg's cockpit. The 109's obstructed up and rear views make me nervous. 1
BraveSirRobin Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I much prefer the view from the Lagg's cockpit. The 109's obstructed up and rear views make me nervous. It will help to have a really good view of the chap that is about to kill me.
