I've tried deleting the Ctree/Mtree cache files as per Jim's suggestion, I've also double checked that the mission type is "single"

and I'm saving the mission under Data/Missions/Gambit21

My folder shows up in game, but the only mission I can see is "my mission"

I've tried loading different maps, starting from scratch, no joy.

Posted (edited)

I'm stumped. Can you please give me the following:

- A screenshot of the mission properties dialog before you save the mission.

- The file name of the mission that you save.

Also, I don't remember if you have a separate DServer to run MP missions, but if you do, make sure that the mission is under your IL-2 game directory and not under your separate DServer directory.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sur that mission builder don't change the name in the different language file. It should be the mission you see with the name My mission wich is the default name. You must have your game in a language which is not the language of the mission builder.

Image is attached.

Right now the name is VlikiMission

Everything is in English - game and as far as I can tell, the editor.

Habu the default "My Mission" shows up in game, but that's all that shows up.

Try this:

1. Delete the .msnbin and .list files.

2. Delete the Ctree/Mtree cache files.

3. Open the .mission file in the editor and save in Data/Missions/Gambit21.

If Jim solution doesn't work, try this.

If your game is in english, you shoudn't have the problem. But you can check that :

Go in your mission directory, where you have your mission.

Open with the notepad the files which end by :

.eng

The most important is the .eng cause your game is in english, and if you don't use the LOC button in the editor.

at the first line of the file, you should see the name of your mission (do not modify anything in that file, if you are not confident with it) :

0:Vliki mission

If you see :

0:My mission

you have your error.

Missions deciding not to show up in-game happens to me from time to time, usually when I'm modifying an existing mission and saving it as something new. This is because although I I gave the file a name when I "saved as", I sometimes forget to rename it in the mission properties box. Hence it has the same in-game name as the mission I'd opened up to base it on. Grrrr!

Occasionally, though, it really doesn't seem to be in-game. So, then I go back to the original mission, copy everything (Ctrl-A seems to work) and paste it into a brand new mission, which seems to do the trick.

Yes it works, all windows command work in the editor. Here are what i remember.

Ctrl A : Select all the elements on the map

Ctrl C : Copy

Ctrl V : Paste

Ctrl : Select element one by one, you can add or remove an element from the selection.

Ctrl + Mouse mvt : In 3D mod, Rotate the selection

OK, I'll try both fixes in order later and report back.

It's the seemingly simple, yet mysterious and nonsensical showstoppers like this that get me pulling my hair out.

If it doesn't solve the problem, put your mission here and we have a look.

Habu -

0:Test Mission Vliki

Yet - I'm running the English version.

I saved the mission under a slightly different name, put a "1" in front of that mission name. (apparently that doesn't work)

deleted the ctree/mtree files.

Opened the mission, saved it again.

Still doesn't show.

So maybe now that's the root cause. When I open that file now after changing to a '1' it now says 0:

with no mission name after it...so apparently you can't just change that value.

If this is the root cause, I'm stumped as to why my English version is behaving this way.

You mentioned that you saw "My Mission" in your folder in IL-2. What happens if you run "My Mission"?

Also, try creating from scratch a very simple mission (just place a player plane on the ground), set the mission name to "TestMission" and save it as "TestMission". See if it shows up.

If I try "My mission" I'm just a camera in the air somewhere over Lupino

Have tried creating simple mission just as you say with the same result, but I'll close down my Stalingrad build here and give it whirl again.

Posted (edited)

OK - not sure what happened or what's going on.

My "test mission" and current Ju52 mission shows!

But not the other mission I was having issues with is not, (this is fine, I've abandoned it anyways) and I'll say again

I created multiple missions, and even a test Stalingrad mission yesterday with the same negative result.

So I'm in that "happy the problem is solved" but disturbed and anxious that I don't know what caused it or how to fix it again

later if it happens fix.

I'm going to attach the problem mission below in a minute in case anyone want's to give me some insight or try and see what the problem is/was.

Try copying the MCUs and objects from your problem mission into a fresh mission (as Swallow mentioned above) and see if the fresh mission shows.

Gambit, you forgot some files for your mission.

You have to know that a mission is composed by several files

The mission itselves :

exemple.mission

exemple.msnbin

exemple.list

The language files (where the name of the mission is write, and all other information you write) :

exemple.eng

exemple.fra

exemple.ger

exemple.pol

exemple.rus

exemple.spa

Thanks Habu, I just forgot to attach the rest.

I'll do so later when I get back.

Gambit, even if you don't use other languages files, provide us all the files, it could help to understand what the problem is.

First thing, the editor tell me that you have a problem :

Object(4673:Vehicle entity) >> Entity can't have this target since this target already has its own target! target id:4664
Max airfields with entity number exceeded! max: 8, actual: 23

In the editor, go in Tools and select Check integrity on save/load. It will help a lot to debug the mission. ;)

Edit :

I have no problem with the mission you provide. The tittle is the good one, but that problem can be link to other language file and the game language settings.

Habu, having this problem again inexplicably.

What do you mean by 'link to other language file' and how to I check/fix this?

I hadn't been having any problem with this mission - pasted in a few groups, changed the name

and suddenly it's not visible in the game.

Also, if I try and save this mission with the same title as the previous version that DOES show up in game, it refuses

to show the changes I made and the old, unchanged mission loads instead. Very strange.

I did clear the ctree and mtree files already.

I really need to know how to solve/avoid this problem as this frustration is getting to me.

It's one thing learning a piece of software, it's another being plagued with nonsensical and showstopping bugs.  :scratch_one-s_head:

Swallow - I tried your cut and paste work-around but the objects did not paste in their correct spots

on the new map - everything was offset by quite a long ways.

Also, using Moscow now (finally purchased) and the older problem missions are now showing up..but not this current one.

By the way I'm doing my best to go down the list of things already provided to help myself.

I'm not sure what happened last time to get the mission to suddenly show up, and not sure why missions that had been invisible for weeks now show up in-game after purchasing Moscow.

There is clearly some sort of basic dot connecting that I'm unable to perform yet due to a knowledgeable gap. Frustrating because despite it's annoying lack of GUI functionality I'm having fun with the editor.

Hi Gambit,

Just downloaded it, opened and saved at the ME, delete the older missions I had named similar and It shows ingame for me. Maybe it wont happen if you save the new mission with different version numbers.??

Know that I thought about it, I didnt encounter this problem while building Albert´s Life by working with only 1 version of each mission.

Habu, having this problem again inexplicably. What do you mean by 'link to other language file' and how to I check/fix this?

In the mission editor. Use the Loc button and see which language is set. If you work with a language file which is not the language of your game, you can have difference between the name, subtitle, etc...

Have a look on my video about the language, it's in french, but you can understand in viewing the video. It's at 24,30 min when i use the loc button.

Thanks guys, I'll work at it a bit more.

Posted (edited)

LOC checks out -  English.

Saving as another name doesn't work.

On another note, after deleting, the ctreecach and mtreecache files earlier, they do not reappear in my data folder - is that a problem?

Edit - Well I'd hate to just throw my hands up and give up, especially when I'm making inroads with the editor itself.

My patience with this bug though is wearing thin, especially if I can't figure out what's causing it, and have no idea what causes the

the missions I was having issues with before and abandoned suddenly decide to show up. WTF?

There's not enough hours in the day. Odd that I'm the only one having this problem to this degree.

I just tried the 'cut and paste' into a new mission fix, and still no luck. Even if it had worked I'd need a pointer on how to quickly get

everything in the right spot again, wasn't looking forward to that task but frankly I'd take that as my only hurdle at this point.

...and I think you guys are probably running out of things to tell me. :(

Had a thought now that I'm not at my computer anymore.

Maybe I should still be saving the mission to the Stalingrad/data/missions/Gambit folder and not Moscow. Oh please let that be the problem.

Posted

If you want to copy paste all the items on the map and get them to the right spot here is the procedure.

- Go in search and select and do select all objects

- Then do file , save selection to file. You can save this .group file wherever you want

- Open your new mission

- Finally do file, import from file and go find your previously saved .group files

And bang here is everything at the right spot

Posted

I agree with Foxy, do not copy past on the same mission. Save all the element in a group file. Close the editor. Open a new mission and import all your element.

Do you work with mission editor and game running at the same time ?

Posted (edited)

Thanks guys - I always shut down the game - over and over again.

Miss the day of the 'fly' button in the editor.

No time right now but late I'll save the missions back to my Stalingrad installation and see if that solves the issue.

After getting Moscow I switched to that game directory for saving missions, but it occurred to me after shutting

down last night that I'm seeing missions in-game that are still

in the 'old' missions folder that I didn't move to the Moscow directory.

OK - that was my problem.

I mistakenly assumed that since I purchased BoM, and I now have a BoM game folder with a Data/Missions, etc, then I should now

save the missions to that new directory - seemed logical.

Well, apparently not.

Saving the mission to the 'old' BoS folder and no wit shows up just fine.

NOW - I can get back to building and ask a question soon perhaps about the actual editor and studying Haash's groups in Albert's Life.

A campaign that I'm looking forward to actually flying as well.

Thanks guys.

Good to see you solve it Gambit.

About studying my groups from Alberts Life; I recommend you to fly it first and look at it later on the ME ;). Also be aware that some groups are edited from the originals so it does what I wanted them to do ;)

I don't understand why you have a bom folder, i have only one for BoS, BoM and in the future BoK. Is it a steam version you have ?

Posted

Well I didn't let the installer install to the default location originally with BoS for space reasons, so I installed on my E drive.

I did the same with BoM and now I have 2 folders

E/

IL2 Battle of Stalingrad

IL2 Battle of Moscow

The game exe says E/IL2/bin/game, thus I'm unclear which folder then the current exe is in, but the planes/maps from both show up in game.

So I'm a bit confused how these 2 folders are relating to each other, but apparently with this structure the exe works for both folders.

It's definitely looking at the BoS folder for missions.

Posted

You only need to run the installer once, I would think.

Posted

I already had BoS, and when I purchased BoM it didn't automatically install like an update as I was expecting. I had to pick a directory as if it was a solo install.

So, If i undestand well, you don't have  asteam version. You bought it on the website ?

Did you stop the update from your folder of Il2battle of stalingrad ?

BOS should have the full content, including BOM. I think all you have to do after buying BOM is log in to BOS. The BOM content will simply become unlocked.

I'm guessing it works that way because everybody can play with everybody on all maps in MP.
