New Theater Announced Tomorrow??

There's a game that is in active development, is F2P, has a mode called Simulator Battles in arena mode, and has well over 200 playable planes, as well as almost all areas of war.

War Thunder doesn't have the same degree of technical accuracy as the IL-2 Sturmovik series, due to the large amount of aircraft, ground vehicles, and now watercraft in the game, and there's almost no historical accuracy - recently, I was flying a RAF Spitfire Mk.Ia over Mongolia to defend the Soviet Union from the Empire of Japan in September 1939. I crashed while chasing an RAF Typhoon flying for the IJA.

War Thunder is a fun game, no doubt about it, but it offers a very different experience from IL-2 Sturmovik.

Obviously. Hence my post!

I was mostly criticizing the idea of "common sense" of excluding historical content already utilized by other similar games. In that case, why exclude WT? If WT is excluded because of gameplay mechanics, doesn't that mean gameplay is often as, if not more, important than the planeset itself?

Sigh... no announcement today?

Ohhhh Cute_retriever. Prepare for a PM from the mods regarding your dog pic. LOL I used that avatar once. Well for a few days anyway.

Alright... back on topic.

WHAT!!!?? No announcement yet?!!?

Friday would be my guess...

Posted

Yeah I imagine they will do it Friday so they will be out of the office on the weekend to avoid the wave of hate that's coming inevitably.

Wave of hate?... I don't think so mate

I hope they do it in the late afternoon rather than evening, Friday evening is always a good opportunity to go out and not care.

Maybe not hate...but throwing of toys and gnashing of teeth if the announcement is not EXACTLY what some think it should be. :D

There is a lot of positive stuff coming this week... as to the theatre, I have my preference of course, if it doesn't pan out then so be it... will it send me into fits of despair? of course not.

Will I still buy it?... absolutely :)

Yes, there will be people who will maybe have no interest in the next theatre... so what? They are allowed their opinions just as we are allowed ours.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the news... plus I'm pretty sure it won't be followed by a wave of hate.

Remember guys, just because people have and give different views, doesn't mean they hate the game... they just have different expectations.

Sure but you gotta admit the amount of vitriol in a flight sim forum is only slightly less than that of a political forum. Regardless of what the announcement is there will be about three pages of OMGOMGOMG followed by a trickle of DOOM which grows to a crescendo over the following weeks. I see what he was saying.

For the record, I'm in regardless but bring on a change of venue in one of the next two chapters.

I'm looking forward to the theater after this next release and the roadmap. What is directly next doesn't matter to me as much. That will probably be/should be something to capitalize on the current plane set.

It doesn't even seem to matter what the announcement is.

Step 1: OMGOMGOMG

Step 2: Hints of doom.

Step 3: DOOOOOOOOOM!!!

so, what's it gonna be? Mediterranean theater? or Kuban to finish off the Eastern front and head towards new theaters of war knowing that the Eastern front is well served for the coming years?

They'll do Kuban first and announce that the next project after that will be Med

That's my prediction as well. First another Eastern Front scenario and then some Western Front theatre to sweeten the deal.

Won't be western front

(Meaning Europe, B17's etc)

To me it seems like a coin toss between Kuban and Med, I'm guessing Med since Jason has a little more leverage now and might want to broaden the western market some (makes business sense also).

that's what i'm thinking, it also makes sense because it allows to re-use more of the current plane set

As much as I want the Pacific at some point.  I could see this as a logical step to the open seas.  Get the "sea legs" cut in the MED. then go for the Pacific.

Not more Eastern front please! They need to open up more posibilities!

Dont start with this nosense, If somebody does X and another guy makes Y, I will be buying or getting the better.

End of the story.

i don't care about the theater as long as it has a four-engine bomber :)

I'm a Pacific guy, but a lot of work and sweat and grief has already been invested here. Might as well keep the momentum and build on it for one more cycle.

Kuban makes the most sense NOW.

Med or pacific seem the logical follow ups.

I don't know why kuban is dismissed so much. Its got a whole lot to offer, from scenery to planeset and shipping.

I'm admittedly largely ignorant of the Med - never studied it. I was largely ignorant about the Eastern Front as well before the first IL2 back in the day. I look forward to exploring the Med at some point.

???One will be free and the other is to buy.You install the free stuff and analyse the others you buy

I think the clue was in "ground vehicles". North Africa? kursk? Alamein?

OK, my prediction...

Kuban, with the P39 and A20, premium planes will be Spitfire and Yak 9.

This will help finish out the Eastern front for the time being, and give us aircraft for the Med, which will be the next installment.

Not sure about Spit and Yak 9 being premium, but otherwise that's more or less my best guess too.

The Spit and Yak 9 were quick wild guesses because I forgot about the prem... oops... Collector planes.

I know there should be some Axis birds too, but how many more 109s are there in this time frame?   Perhaps the CR 42 Falco would be a good addition, along with the I-153?

La5F or La5FN for the battle of Kuban? Or both were that at the time?

Posted

Personally I think they will go West next. Unanswerable case commercially.

Posted

I don't want an Eastern Front scenario next... but if it has to be one, then yes, the Kuban would be the one I would go for... that or an Op Barbarossa scenario.

I would think Spit or Yak 7 as premium while expecting a Yak 9 as included. Just like I'd expect a 109 G6 and an F model 190 as standard with a 109 G10 or 190 A4 or 5 as premiums.

Actually, if I were them I'd stick with six standards; one fighter, one bomber, and one liaison/transport/recon/float per release and start including pairs of fighters as premiums. There are probably enough fighters to add someone's favorite 'crap' plate and stay at four AC per side for each release if six causes too much controversy. But start selling the premiums as twin packs and maximize your profits. I'd still be all in......

But that's just me.

I keep thinking about all the work they are doing in v2.004 to improve the aircraft struts.  Going to need good struts to land on a carrier.
