J2_Jakob Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Hi everyone, yesterday I was thinking to get my feet wet online. There were around 80 players on Wings of Liberty server, so I jumped in. I entered the server and saw there were cca 50 VVS to 30 LW pilots. So I tried to select some LW plane to get started. But, for some weird reason, I couldn't. After selecting anything (be it 109 F4, G2 or Stuka), the "start" button was greyed out. Sometimes it flashed green for a split second but had greyed out again. There were plenty of airplanes available at that time, so that shouldn't have been a problem, but I simply couldn't press it so I disco'ed and went onto another server (some icons-on fastfood), where I didn't have this problem at all and could start a mission normally. Any thoughts? Was that a bug? Should I have tried to simply re-connect in hope the problem goes away?
TP_Silk Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Sounds like you may have run up against a server population limit cap.
J2_Jakob Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Uh, server population limit you say? Well, common sense is telling me that if I don't know what happened and need to go and ask on the forum, the information about exceeding server population limit is somewhat obscured. Wouldn't it be better to refuse connection if the pop. limit would be exceeded? Instead of letting people in and then grey out some button without telling them WHY? I watched people exit the server, so I thought the limit won't be the problem, but they were probably in the same situation as me - they were only spectating and therefore not counted into the limit. Anyway, thx for info.
216th_Jordan Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 All spawnpoints might have been taken by other players so start button is greyed out. Apart from that it could be a bug.
=/WoVi/=kirumovka Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) ^^ as this guy said.Pick a different spawn, as what might've happened is:Someone may have taken the last aircraft you were going to use (you clicked the aircraft, then it was taken before you could spawn - It's happened to me twice already). Perhaps you just have bad luck and it happened coincidentally to all of your attempts There's also a switch-team timer which you have to wait and despawn/respawn timer too Edited August 25, 2016 by Y-29.ZdrytchX
J2_Jakob Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 ^^ I don't think this is what happened. There were 18 available Friedrichs (and plenty of other machines too), but max. server capacity was so-so reaching the limit when I joined. So I guess the problem was that the server had reached the population limit just before I entered the selected airplane. In Rise of Flight, where I've spent last couple of years, when you attempt to select the last airplane which has just been taken by someone else, and is therefore not available for you anymore, it will display a message saying "airfield conditions have been changed", or something like this. So you click it again and see the particular aircraft is gone... Messages are cool, greyed out buttons are confusing... I didn't attempt to select anything on VVS side, so switch-team penalty shouldn't apply either. So, to confirm my assumption - WoL has pop. limit of 84 pilots flying simultaneously, while there can be unlimited (?) number of spectators. In other words: If the count of the pilots who are already sitting in their aircraft is 84, for the rest of the people the start button is greyed out, until any of these 84 finishes flight. Correct? I don't know if this behaviour is in the Rise of Flight too, as I haven't experienced a full server there...
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) Well, if 84/84 was reached what makes you think you can force it to have more? On the European side WOL fills up fast, and stays that way for at least 2 to 3 hours. Around my time PDT 1200. Edited August 25, 2016 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
Aap Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) I had something similar on TAW server sometimes. I could click start, but after that it was grayed out. All I had to do was click on the map and then click "Spectate" and then I found myself in my plane. If the server is full, you are unable to join. And if someone picks the last plane in front of you, you get a message of "Airfield conditions were changed" or something like that. Edited August 26, 2016 by II./JG77_Kemp

J2_Jakob Posted August 26, 2016 Author Posted August 26, 2016 max. server capacity was so-so reaching the limit when I joined. Well, if 84/84 was reached what makes you think you can force it to have more? On the European side WOL fills up fast, and stays that way for at least 2 to 3 hours. Around my time PDT 1200. What makes you think it was 84/84? I only took a wild guess that we can have more spectators, but only 84/84 pilots simultaneously in the air. But then I saw this post: If the server is full, you are unable to join. And if someone picks the last plane in front of you, you get a message of "Airfield conditions were changed" or something like that. And that is a clarification, sir! (Practically the same expectable behaviour as in RoF.) 307_Tomcat - ok, just glanced at it, will read through that topic later. Although I remember hitting Spectate too, perhaps I didn't proceed in correct order to go around that bug. Must have been that after all. Thanks to all who contributed.
