TazMan Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello, Is it possible to create a custom map or edit an existing map without any AAA? I come from the mold of HSFX and custom map building such to either disable or remove the AAA installations. For my group of BoS / BoM enthusiast it has become an issue and unfortunately has brought disagreement in the sim... I really do not want the AAA thing to end up causing my friends not to fly as much or at all.... I just upgraded to BoM Pro this weekend hope my friends will do so as well but this AAA thing is causing an issue. The style of ACM we would fly is based on getting in the air from a set of bases and engaging in the fight. This was done without any AAA as it does not play part in the true art of ACM. I really hope that the answer is yes with a link to follow or instructions on how to disable / remove AAA. It will be the saving grace for my friends and our squadron to make BoS / BoM a success for us. The sincerest thanks and appreciation in advance for assistance with my question. Cheers, -TazMan
JimTM Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) I'll assume that you know the basics of the mission editor. For a new map, do not add AAA objects listed under "Artillery" in the Objects Library (right-hand side of interface). For an existing map: 1. Click the "OBJ FILT" button in the toolbar. The Mission Editor Object Filter" dialog opens. 2. Clear all the check boxes except for "Vehicles" and click OK. Only Vehicle objects are shown on the map. The Vehicle category includes Artillery objects. 3. Remove AAA objects. Edited August 22, 2016 by JimTM
No601_Swallow Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Indeed. When you first load a map in the Mission Editor, it's just blank landscape. No buildings in the villages, no paraphernalia around the airfields. What you put onto the map or take away is entirely up to the mission builder! But missions are easily editable (it's easier to delete things than put them in!). Don't forget - if you've flown a mission or map (SP or MP) (especially if you take a track) that mission can be loaded into the mission editor and "adapted"...!
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 S! I am one friend whom flies with Taz on the weekends. I can't speak for him, but if someone can walk me (us) through the process of editing a map I would appreciate it. Assume the only thing I (we) can do is open mission editor... (Sorry if I hi- jacked this thread.) The information I have obtained so far has been of muc h help. S! I am one friend whom flies with Taz on the weekends. TP_Jacko Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I am sure you can load an existing map into the editor and delete all AA units and not worry about any of the other items attached to it. .... do make a back up first eh
JimTM Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hi Karetaker, The video tutorial links here can give you some editing experience. Jim
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 So, if I wanted to alter the map that Taz and I have already flown, (he was host) I should have a copy of that map some place in my BoS folders...correct? I should be able to load that map into the mission editor and remove the flak by following the steps Jim TM states, above? Where within the BoS files would this map be located that I may alter? I regret sounding like such a rock, but this is all new to me and the learning curve is steep. Thanks for all your help and please keep the tips coming.
JimTM Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Look for the .msnbin file for your mission in drive:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Multiplayer\Dogfight. Then, follow the procedure below (extract from my upcoming manual). I also recommend that you get Prangster's Mission Building Guide. Edit a Mission Without the Mission Source File If you do not have the source file (.mission) that the editor works with, you can still edit a mission. You need only the following: - The mission binary file (.msnbin), which is what actually runs in IL-2 Sturmovik. - The localization files (.eng, .fra, .ger, and so on) if the mission is translated into various languages. For more details on localization, see Provide a Mission in Various Languages (pg. 49). Note: A multiplayer mission on a mission participant's computer normally does not include the .mission file. The .mission file is left out of the DServer mission download directory in order to save download time. Do the following: 1. In the editor File menu, click Open. 2. Type *.* in the File Name box and press Enter. 3. Navigate to your game folder and then to the directory containing the mission that you want to edit. The singleplayer directory is \data\Missions. The multiplayer directory is \data\Multiplayer\Dogfight. 4. Choose your mission file that ends with .msnbin and click Open. The editor opens the binary file. You can now edit the mission. 5. Save the mission with the original name or a new name. Your mission is saved with a .mission suffix. 1
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Copy JimTM. I have Prang's Guide...will be looking at that again and a bit closer. Greatly appreciate the intel. and guidance. Allow me some time to work with this new information and see how I do. Thanks!
No601_Swallow Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) Kudos, Jim, for your patience. {I got a tenth of the way through a similar post and then gave up!} Edited August 23, 2016 by No601_Swallow
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Thanks for the assistance guys. I was able to place an airfield on a new map and populate it with aircraft. That map seemed to work fine when I launched it in multiplayer and joined. I was also able to take an existing map and remove the flak and other items. It appears that I am on my way to figuring out the ME and making custom maps.
JimTM Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) Great! I'm glad that we helped you out. Edited August 25, 2016 by JimTM
TazMan Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 S! (Shorthand for rendering a Salute) Fantastic accomplishment KT!!! My sincere thanks to ALL the BoS individuals who helped with the feedback and details! KT: Did you have any other questions or issues that you ran into? Cheers! -Taz
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Taz, yes, I have a ton more things to figure out, but I plan to tackle these myself prior to posting further questions.

[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Just a follow up for the crew; I was able to load and host a custom map Saturday with one other crew member joining. We had zero issues. I spent time Sunday fooling with ME and trying to learn more about it. I believe I can do what I need to with it now and hope to get deeper into it as time allows.
TazMan Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 Hello, I am not sure if this should be a separate topic but since I am the fellow aviator with KT he is referring to I wanted to reply for assistance. KT did send me the map files he created and we flew in multiplayer on Saturday such that I could host them as well in his absence. Note: I have both BoS and BoM installed. I tried putting the files in both and or either the (BoS / BoM/ Multiplayer / dogfight folders) and am receiving the #10017 File Transfer Error. Any thoughts...? Thanks in advance for assistance, -Taz
JimTM Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 ... I tried putting the files in both and or either the (BoS / BoM/ Multiplayer / dogfight folders) and am receiving the #10017 File Transfer Error. ... See this post.
TazMan Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) Hello, Thank you JimTim for your reply. I have looked at the information from the link you provided but unfortunately it doesn't point me in any direction of resolution. Here is my sequence: * My friend KT sent me (4) files that were created from the mission editor (ME). * I put all four exports from the ME into the multiplayer / dogfight folder. * I launch dserver and point to the multiplayer / dogfight folder to load the map then save and close. * I launch dserver and the map loads without issue. * I launch BoS or BoM - then go to Multiplayer - enter my room I created via dserver - next I receive the #10017 File Transfer Error message. Please forgive me but I cant find or decipher out of the information provided what is wrong. I really cant imagine its something difficult to fix but I could really use some detailed instructions. As always my sincere thanks and appreciation for any assistance in advance, -Taz Edited August 30, 2016 by TazMan

As always my sincere thanks and appreciation for any assistance in advance, -Taz You're welcome Taz. Do you mean that you read the instructions but were not sure how to do the check or did you actually check the .list file and it agreed with where the actual files were? For example, I save a mission and get the following in the first line of my .list file: filename="multiplayer/dogfight/jimtmmptestflags2.eng","cf927496" In this case, the mission files must be in .../multiplayer/dogfight/ under the same directory structure as the DServer. What were complete names of the four files? If you have the .mission file or the .msnbin file, you can open the mission in the editor and resave it, which gives you the complete set of nine files that the editor produces. With the .msnbin file, you need this procedure to open it in the editor. Edited August 30, 2016 by JimTM
[VF-84]Karetaker Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Hello JimTM. Just an FYI, I sent Taz both the .MISSION and .msnbin files of the map. I agree that one of these opened in ME, and saved to the correct folder should generate the required files to run correctly in a multiplayer hosted room. (server) That sounds like a very good plan and a simple place to start troubleshooting the issue.

I seems that you can run the mission with .msnbin, .list, and .eng (assuming the mission was created in English), but it's probably a good idea to start fresh with all the files and all of them in the right folders. TazMan Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 JimTM and KT, Great news!!! All is up and running now with the Clean Slate A map on the dserver and the BoS simulator. All was accomplished via the provided instructions: 1. I launched the ME and loaded KT's map then saved it in the BoS multiplayer / dogfight folder. Updated my sds file for the dserver and all is working ;-) Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. S! -Taz
