Happens periodically.

Right after I click "Start".

Sometimes, instead of the cockpit, I get .... nothing.

I am obviously spawned. But there is just a black screen. Funnily enough, "o" still gets me the map. But "o" again gets me a black screen. I can actually here the "warehouse" interface sounds.

It used to be rare.

But now it happens fairly regularly.

I have to "Alt-W" to quit the game, then ctrl-alt-del to kill the process, and then relaunch.

Annoying. Not catastrophic. But annoying.

Any ideas/suggestions/etc.?

Since the last patch i have had it a few times in QMB not tried any other types of mission

What drivers are you using and op system maybe roll back on drivers or download latest  , also turn off Full-screen in game . See if this helps .

Windows 10. But I always have. No OS/driver changes. It definitely seems like this issue has become really frequent since the last patch. Will look into opening a support ticket. Was kind of hoping that this was a known issue ...

Black screens and sounds in background  are normally to do with 3d drivers or the 3D world not loading .

please reinstall your drivers for your card . turn off any third party sweetfx ect ect .

i had black screen after new patch also , i have full screen ticked off , and i can exit to desktop ,

I can report this on occasion too, happened with my old AMD 15.5 Beta drivers using a 295x2 so I upgraded to the latest 16.xx drivers and I still get it...

Right after I click "Start" sometimes, instead of the cockpit, I get a black screen. I am spawned but there is a black screen. I also see the system "help" messages on the right of the screen about my aircraft. When I press Esc to quit the mission the game then hangs and I have to "Alt-Tab" to quit the game, Ctrl-Alt-Del to kill the process, and then relaunch.

I have found this happens less if BoS/BoM is the first game I play after logging into my PC. However if I have played other games, then launch BoS/BoM I almost always get the black screen on mission Start.

Happened on older 15.5 AMD drivers, and now on their latest 16.xx drivers. I am running triple screens in CrossfireX mode on an AMD 295x2 with Win 7 64-bit machine with 12GB of mem.

Bug reported.

So I think I may have narrowed down the cause.

I am using TrackIR.

If I am looking completely away from the camera, so that I am not facing forward (or maybe even out of the FOV of the TrackIR camera) for some time from the moment I hit "START" till I spawn, the probability of this issue happening is very, very, very, very, high. Not always (though this might be down to details on how far away I am looking, whether or not the camera/game "caught" me turning/looking away, how long I am looking away for etc.), but often enough to bet on it or even expect it.

Conversely, if I make sure to face more or less forward and keep in the TrackIR FOV from the moment I hit start till the moment I spawn, I, so far, over several dozens of sessions, have yet to trigger this issue.

Same issue here, mainly quick mission. I will experiment with your solution bearfoot, and report back.

Ok after some experimenting I found that I still get the black screen when looking straight and TrackIR is getting a good "connection". I also tried without TrackIR at all and the software disabled, same results. :(

Getting the same thing, Windows 10. If I remove the current.* it seems to go away for a bit, but then returns. Sometimes I get the screen appearing, but pressing P to unpause does not work and I have to kill the game, although ESC does function. Canceling mission ends in black screen. I have created a ticket.

It might be multiple different issues.

But as of now, as long as I make sure that I am facing the screen (or rather, the TrackIR camera) from the moment I hit start (both times, i.e., from setting up the quick mission, as well as on the briefing screen), this problem does not occur.

Conversely, every time I do not, it does. My (work) laptop is 90 degrees to the left of the screen, and if I my head + eyes stray there at an inopportune time (triggered by, e.g., the email notification sound), I turn back and always find myself facing a black screen.

Same problem here!

Using TrackIR, game freezes (black screen) after the start of mission (before you can press the "P" for unpausing the game). I never encountered this problem in IL2 BoS before. Seems it appeared with one of the last updates.

I am using Win10 with a NVIDIA graphics card.

update drivers, if on or using HDMI make sure NVIDIA drivers are updated.

more than likely a problem with compatibility with your laptop.

also sounds like a key conflict with track ir and maybe updates.

down load the latest track ir, delete all instances of track ir including folders.

windows 10? if so there several places track ir hides it self.

the uninstall program does not delete all the track ir files you have to find all the folders,

i.e C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\naturalpoint

i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint

reinstall. the new version. http://naturalpoint.com/trackir/downloads/

I would make its own folder i.e. C:\naturalpoint\track ir5\

I get this occasionally, black screen on mission start, since I purchased the game a few months ago. It's annoying. Tried multiple drivers, using a 1080ti.

So I may have found a workaround for this. Use the fps display and don't click start if the fps is fluctuating. Haven't had a black screen since I started doing this.

I have this bug too quite often, it is annoying as it forces me to end the entire windows session because i cant click anything when ctrl+alt+del, everything is locked.

I am on Win10 and use a different resolution for the game than my desktop ( cant spot contacts otherwise even though from a real life ulm i can see contacts kilometers away) and use track ir5 . At first i thought it is because i may lack ram ( only 8gb ) but now i see that several users have the issue as well

I will try the trick of Ptk ( thank you ) to check if it can solve it.

This has been my voodoo fix also it seems to help.. but this does not work always.
