Loft is working on a new internal project that is not a flight-simulator. He's happy and working hard. None of this, ROF or BOS/M would have happened without Loft. I only helped him stay in business when the chips were down. He is an amazing producer and I consider him a friend. Whatever you don't like about BOS you can try to pin on him, but all that you DO LIKE in ROF and BOS is also Loft's work and he should be remembered for that above all else. I've worked with Albert for 7 years and we've had our differences and some monster arguments, but I respect him. I think he respects me also.

The team also respects Loft and he is still there in the office with them, just working on something else. The team was missing a leader so I volunteered. It takes much focus and energy to make a flight sim reality. I have been resting up the last couple years analyzing everything so I am ready to give it my all until I fizzle out some day.

Glad to hear all of that Jason. He did a hell of a job (along with the rest of the team) and I wish him all the best in his future project.

It's not related to IL-2 and I can't comment on it and neither can anyone at 1CGS. That's all I can say sorry.

Jason

No biggie, I was (half) joking.

It would be a really sad day for me if Il2 was no more..... you have my 120% support for ANYTHING the devs bring for us.

I'm going to guess that their big meeting recently was one of those moments where you sit the team down and have a frank discussion on the successes and challenges from the past and then determine what changes can be most beneficial in the future. The thing that we have now that we didn't two years ago is that the series now has two established entries which are fairly solid in their own right and that gives a strong base to work with.

I like what I hear as well. They seem to know what they were doing - I hope they are able to keep focus like they did in Stalingrad and Moscow and stick to whatever the plan is but bring us some cool new stuff along the way. A tightrope act if I ever saw one.

I'm looking to hear what they have planned too!

Agreed

They will have my money regardless of the plan.

BOS/BOM is the best WWII Air Combat Sim out there in my opinion.

Mine too.. and frankly.. I have so much stuff going on in my real life thatI don't even get the chance to fly much at all anymore..  online or offline..

I'm sure this has been mentioned a few times.  I think one of the biggest impacts to the game would be to make it easier to build missions.  I think this what kept IL2 1946 going strong over the years. There was a big MP crowd which always wanted more content.  Of course I'm excluding the Mods but you get the idea.

New content new maps great but getting the attention of new people via a MP community would go a long way.

My 2 cents

Yeah .. that and a few other things.. I think the ease of online use was also a factor and the user made content period was also pretty diverse...  but this series has the potential to be that kind of product... I think they just could not give everyone all that they wanted at one time..  but the potential has always been there.

When they announce a new series they usually have the artwork, website and marketing etc etc etc all lined up so I don't think its just a matter of announcing the new series, there is still probably a lot of behind the scenes work being done so I don't think it will be this week or next. I might be wrong of course judging by how fast these guys normally work.

I'm really glad to hear that Jason and the team are listening, and I really like sound of the direction they are thinking of going. I'm really looking forward to hearing what "the plan" is in depth. But so far it's given me a lot of hope.

Jason

Having YOU as lead producer now is for me at least enough reason to have confidence in the future. I hope you dont make the same mistakes and I am eager to preorder your next products.

PLEASE make someone have another look at the Focke:), its performance and its bars:).

Jason seemed to indicate that they would be saying what their plans are before the end of the month. Apparently we're getting a small update today.

But you're right, they tend to go with an announcement that features some artwork and a website update and usually a pre-order option too.

Jason,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, as much as you can, on all the changes going on with the sim.   Your posts of late have gone a long way in soothing the savage beast that I know we can be.

We have had our differences in the past, but at this point I must say that I am more at ease about the future of the title than I have been since the demise of CloD, and I intend to support IL2 Battle of Whatever in the future.

I and the remaining Blitz Pigs are looking forward to what the future holds.

Take care.

I agree with HerrMurf and strongly disagree with those who are saying you have not communicated well. I mean, dev updates every week?! - Which developer can compete with that.

Obviously we in the fan base cannot begin to cherry pick which features came from which member of the dev team. We have no idea since the devs (of course!) have presented a common front. It is ridiculous to begin to speculate on what Lofts departure from the team will mean. We can just follow the progress of the series and congratulate Albert on his promotion. His strong guidance of Il-2 has helped create the amazing sim we have now so: SPACIBA Loft!

You had me at "You want......."

A more hardcore direction, i'm liking the sound of that,  :)

And to be honest i'll buy what ever they do if it helps keep the Sim going.

Yes, this is true..

I wish Albert all the best in what ever he chooses to pursue as well, if it weren't for his presence to begin with, this project would have never excised to date.

Just do a Kickstarter.

Clearly detail the specific ideas and the plans to achieve them.

Illustrate the time frames, at least approximately.

Predict the costs and expected expenses that the community can expect.  Again, approximately.

Establish a Kickstarter Participation entry fee.

Look, I'm more than happy to support and encourage.  Identify the details though, and give a "What to realistically expect" for the contribution.  I'll be the first to sign up and fork over the donation, if I get more than....'better detail', and 'you want VR', and 'cover all of WWII'.

You can very strongly expect my purchase if the final products are as good as this one, but I can't give money without knowing some clear detail about what I should be able to expect in return.

Like I said...More than happy to contribute to a WIP if I know what it will be.  Otherwise...more than happy to purchase the final product when it's released.

So much potential for this sim that has my support.

Hearing the news made me buy IL2-BOM, even though I had no intention to do so previously.

Loft has to be commended for the beginnings of ROF (Jason is related to much of the good stuff like the Career interface that came later in ROF development), but in IL2 Loft has made made lots of strange executive decisions: repeating the mistake with ROF mission editor that is overly complex even for basic tasks, creating a campaign with flying to "action point", unlocks, disabling graphics options and mods, no historic medals, making expensive CGI videos in an era when EVERYBODY bar some graphically challenged strategy games does them on in-game engine and in-mission... the list can go on.

So I am very happy to hear about Jason's appointment:) Go Jason, and long live IL2!

Well, 89-, you may feel that way, and you're probably right, but I believe Loft did a lot more good for the genre than he's credited for.

He's a man with a vision and sticks to his beloved project to make it the best he possibly can (IMHO).

I salute the man for that.

I hope the sim continues to develop and that we all have a lot of simming hours in the battles to come.

I am not saying that Loft was evil or useless, far from it. Like I said, the genre owes it to Loft for making ROF in the first place - with the unique advanced flight modelling (AFM) and unique at the time business model that made the niche product survive. It was a great feat, ROF is one of THE defining points in flight sims history and Loft takes full credit for making it happen.

If vthey can incorporate a PROPER CAMPAIGN mode with a ranking system and missions GIVEN to you rather than choosing, then there`s a high chance I will purchase.

I am still very disappointed with the lacking Campaign which feels very much like a disguised QMB. Make that effort on the campaign so we feel like a pilot under orders and working up the ranks.

I've got a lot of respect and a great liking for Loft.  He is an impressive and professional project leader in an industry that in the past has suffered at the hands of some well meaning amateurs.  A somewhat intimidating character at times, he was like a T-34 in a china shop and would roll over all opposition to get the job done on budget, on time and within vision.  Not just once, but time and again.  I definitely wish him all the best and look forward to learning more of his next project.

But damn!  If the reports are true and Jason is taking over from Albert, that's really exciting.  I feel like Jason has a very good understanding of how things work from a player perspective, is more flexible and approachable, and appreciates how the end goal is not just to deliver a robust piece of software on time, but to craft an experience.

Hardcore engine start!!

That's already in game. We just need keys for every pump, switch and selector.

And someone to create aircraft checklists :P

Posted

That's a possibility. For me one of the most intriguing parts of Jason's statement was:

"ANY further development is a positive development for this line of products and the genre. We have some cool plans and some surprises no one sees coming."

So, in the very best flight-sim forum tradition of completely baseless and evidence-free speculation what do you think the upcoming "surprises" could be?

I personally hope that it might be a properly implemented decal marking system (as in il-2 46 and COD). The current approach to skinning is one of the big remaining weaknesses in BOS/BOM.

Could be implemented and still have an option for automatic startup - so both sides would be happy.

Still there are things of greater importance but nontheless - why not?

It uses development time they could be put to better use.

Therefor I wrote that there are things of greater importance.

But no problem in creating a priority list / must have - nice to have list and if there is any time left then such things could be developed.

So low priority but still a possibility.

I would agree with that, they are there and automated - there are not that many, would be nice to at least make those manually controllable as an option for those that choose to do so.

Not for them. They've already said they're not gonna do it. I'd be surprised if that changes with Jason in charge
