taffy2jeffmorgan Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Hi All, Now that we are well into development, i would like see perhaps far more substantial ground targets, roads clogged with advancing or fleeing traffic, bottle necks at river crossings, railway yards crammed full of trains and rolling stock, munition dumps and oil storage facilities. Well protected bomber and fighter airfields launching or receiving their squadrons. We have now both bombers and fighters that can carry an awful lot of bomb load which can do an awful lot of damage. Just a thought !! Cheers 2
PatrickAWlson Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 One answer would be static (non-AI) items. Static trucks, tanks, etc. They wouldn't move or shoot but they also would not be taking up CPU cycles. The mission designer could choose what to include. Battles would require AI driven units, but air attacks on dumps, depos, etc. could use the static models. The static units should be destroyable and should show up in the mission logs as destroyed units. 5

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I had two topic's posted last year for "combat" static and "non-combat" static objects but they died a quiet death. I'd like to see airfield objects first: Start carts, trucks, tugs, kitchen carts, maintenance wagons, motorcycles, recovery vehicles, tow/winch trucks, engine stands.............................. 3
KoN_ Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I think at the current state of the game engine DX9 ` we wont see this happening but once we go to DX11 it should be possible . I Really hope so .
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) I know I've posted this before but check out the taxi at 1:50. Even static People would add so much. Guys washing or adjusting AC, arming AC, smoking and joking, writing love letters, loading wounded for transport, the list is endless. I don't particularly care for the other sim but the inclusion of static objects really makes that scene pop. The first time I saw the video I was was stunned. After reviewing it again I have to add FUEL TRUCKS to my above list. Probably ambulance and light trucks, jeeps, etc as well. If done well you could eventually animate the vehicles without animating all of the static people. Edited August 19, 2016 by II/JG17_HerrMurf 1

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 ChiefWH, on 19 Aug 2016 - 13:19, said: I'd like it if marker/pathfinding flares/smoke were available. Something that would burn for a while, helping others, high altitude in particular, to find and line up for a target. Wow, that is a great idea. Would give my future Mosquito B Mk IX a unique role too!! If we actually get the Fw 189 and recon missions become a reality, I would fly the PR Mk IX in that role on a fairly regular basis.
kestrel79 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 That would be great! I like that smoke idea super cool gameplay.
smink1701 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 How about some parked aircraft around the airfields.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 How about some parked aircraft around the airfields. I think that is a given.
Feathered_IV Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I would have thought that non-AI objects was a no brainer (pun most definitely intended). I'm genuinely surprised that this is not a key feature already. @Murf, dammit! A Pacific expansion by these developers would probably look just like that too. Need to keep my hopes at a more restrained level...
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I don't own that game but that taxi sequence still makes me salivate. BoX is infinitely prettier/more sophisticated already. Now imagine our sim with that atmosphere..........whoa! 1
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Except parked aircraft already exsist. There are even some in various stages of maintenace. It's up to the map makers to place them.
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 All statics show up as being destroyed whether they are a linked entity or not on MP. Through the server or using the IL2 stats program. Unfortunately the rendering distance for the most recent vehicle, armor and train statics are too short to setup large scale ground targets with them for air strikes. Players just can not see them from the air in time. It's my understanding that this is being looked into. Tip
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Here is a link for some of the things I'd like to see as statics. You can thumb through the other scales to see different items. http://matadormodels.co.uk/yairfield1index%2048th/lists%20airfield48.htm I may do a bit of research for digital model makers ideas now that I have a place to start. I wonder if =LD=Hiromachi has any sources for Japanese equipment?
