SYN_Skydance Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Last week I moved house that is in a rural village. Although British Telecom installed fibre into the village about 4 months ago it seems that I am just a little bit too far from the exchange to get it. When I rang BT to fit my phone line and broadband, they informed me that I will only be getting between 1 and 3.5 Mb/s. With this news I went our an bought myself an EE wifi 4G router. With this I get download speeds of between 45~80 Mb/s, upload speeds of 2.4 Mb/s and pings normally around 30~50ms. Occasionally the ping will give a result of 200ms, depending on which app I use to do the speed test and what server it connects to. Which option do you think would be best and how much data would I be using whilst flying BoS/BoM? Cheers Skydance.
SYN_Skydance Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 I set my PCs up tonight and connected to mobile 4G. I had half an hour on RoF with no issues then I tried Red Orchestra. I had the lowest ping out of all the players!!! No lag or disconnection issues. I'm shock at how well it performs. I've just finished downloading the latest BoS patch so I'll give that a try tomorrow.
Bando Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Is there a limitation for data? Meaning after say 25Gb the speed goes down, or the bill goes up. I had that on my satellite connection. Speed was ok, but if some proggy had an update, I had to make sure I did not cross that boundary, or the missus could not read the social media the following day. I did have some explaining to do in those days.
Lusekofte Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 50 GB should keep you going, I always wonder how much a sim use of internet, can you give us a report on how much you spend on a day, week and month in just simulators
SYN_Skydance Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 So far I seem to be using between 1 and 2GB per day. My son was on World of Warcraft today for about 3 hours and that used up about 1.5GB. I'm only going to get to fly on Sunday's ATM (with moving house I've got a long list of jobs to do) I'll keep you posted on the amount of data my Sunday flying sessions use up. I think that 50GB should cover me for the month.
SYN_Skydance Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 I gave my mobile broadband a good test tonight and I can say it works very well. I flew for 2 hours on "72AG-DED- RANDOM EXPERT -BETA" server with no issues. I had no lag, disconnection or stutters. I was concerned that the connection may not of been reliable, with it being wireless, but it's been fine. As for the amount of data it's been using, I would have to say that it uses about 1GB every two hours. That's a hundred hours flying time per month with my 50GB allowance with EE.
