Bearfoot Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Ok, this might be one of those rare stupid-question-even-if-it-was-asked BUT ... The engine and oil temperature gauge only seems to have a single indicator. I can read the coolant intake easily. But what indicates the oil temperature? Or are the temps "joined" in a way that a single indicator shows both, the top of the white line showing coolant and the bottom of the *SAME* white line showing oil? =EXPEND=Tripwire Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) If I recall correctly, there should be a button on the guage that switches the needle between indicating oil/coolant temperatures on the guage. This is not currently implemented, so you only see coolant temperature in its default state. Edited August 15, 2016 by Tripwire 2
Bearfoot Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 So how does one track oil temperature? Without relying on techno-chat, I mean. Because right now, that's the only way I know my oil is overheating.

Bearfoot Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 Ok, thanks! At least good to know I am not missing anything ...
JG5_Schuck Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 The chances of overheating your oil and not your water with automatic radiator control is almost zero. Like trying to overheat the oil in you car...... You just have a coolant gauge, because that's all you need to keep an eye on. Its slightly different in aircraft engines as the oil can loose its ability to adequately lubricate the crank/bearings if put under to much load (sustained high RPM/ATA) which is very well modeled in game. Its also important in planes with manual oil radiator control to have a separate gauge, for obvious reasons! Like the VVS stuff. Which i find is both challenging and rewarding to fly without techno chat on.

Because right now, that's the only way I know my oil is overheating. The BF109 has automated everything. You don't need that guage anyways. The solution to all possible problems is the same so long as you're being a skilled and dilligent pilot. Don't use combat ATA forever, and if you get hit in a radiator, go home. The water radiator is more important than the oil radiator in the DB6xx engine anyway, in my experience as it's water cooled. You fly a long time with a broken oil rad in a 109; a broken water rad and you'll fall out of the sky pretty fast. Edited August 15, 2016 by GridiroN

Yes, on the temperature gauge for the F- and G-series 109s currently modeled, there is a bit of text letting the pilot know he can monitor the engine's oil temperature by pressing a small button.
