Guest deleted@103832 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Took a fully loaded Stuka up for the first time tonight and was climbing at the prescribed climb performance parameters of 2450 RPM and 1.25 ATA, both water and oil radiators full open. It was a painfully slow climb as expected but after 5 min. the water temp exceeded 110 degrees to about 120-125 and the engine began overheating. I reduced RPM and ATA to 2100/1.2 respectively, but obviously there's no climbing getting done at that point. Am I missing a key procedure? I was under the impression the max time duration for 2450/1.25 was 30 minutes. Thank you - - -
216th_Jordan Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Maybe you climbed too slow? Engine overheat has nothing to do with allowed power settings. Normally it helps to keep the speed a little higher, however if you fly on a hot summermap with 30°C+ you will have little chance with a full loadout.

Thanks - I did not consider the effect of summer ambient temperature. Is there an ideal climb speed to prevent overheating?
L3Pl4K Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Thanks - I did not consider the effect of summer ambient temperature. Is there an ideal climb speed to prevent overheating? 240-250 Km/h. This could also help: http://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/archiv/Dokumente/ABC/j/Jumo/Jumo%20211/Jumo%20211%20F%20Faltkarte.pdf Look at page 9, Steigleistung is 2400 U/min and 1.25 ata. If you have a satan bomb under your plane, reduce fuel to the level you need for your mission.

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Also mind full playload is not the same as overloaded payload. Full payload for the Ju-87 is full fuel + 1t of bombs (1x SC1000 or 1x 500kg + 2x 250kg). With the SC1800 the aircraft is overloaded which means it will perform significantly worse than the manufacturer specifications.
