Lusekofte Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) My experience using this stick in BOS is as following. At first it is like learning to walk all over again, big waving movements and constantly forgetting to set the stick in center . My earlier problem about pulling up hard in the IL 2 hard enough and fast enough has re emerged. I am simply too cautious , Yes this is a non centering stick. It is excellent for helicopter flying, can fly hands off . But in vintage planes it is a historical fact, the air resistance leveled the control surfaces in speed, but not in ground. So you miss out on that part. The air resistance will not help you, but after a short while you develop a muzzle memory on where to park the stick when not maneuvering or ending a maneuver. It add to the immersion in many way. The tiny micro movements you sometimes need is correctly and to my surprise very accurate same goes for the bigger movements, everything feels just right, I noticed that in all simulators I so far have tried the stick and collective movements are 1 /1 ( DCS except for the gazelle) BOS and COD. the stick leave you accurate and good room for maneuvering. I simply do not think it could be better in any way. You feel like the stick movements in this clip without the tremendous force applied of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilHOFuq5Vfc . I choose to use the CF grip, one of many . I do not know why I did , but I do not regret it. It give a very good feel to it, and has 6 buttons and 2 hat switches. The buttons activate and go only 1 mm and are easy to accidentally activate. But again you learn and adapt. All in all I am very satisfied with this stick , it bring along more immersion and a feel of real flight. It is very accurate from the smallest adjustment to evasive action. I will adapt a authentic stick to this base when flying BOS and COD just to get the right feel, when I find the right sockets and decide about if I really should cut its length. I might buy another base for it. time will see This is fantastic for flying helicopters Edited August 13, 2016 by 216th_LuseKofte
Sokol1 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) CH Combatstick grip is better (IMO) for WWII sim's/games that their "F-16" version, because has two big press buttons replacing two HAT's, you loose in quantity (of HAT corners) but gain in practicality, press buttons for drop bombs, launch rockets, etc. is more appropriated than press HAT corner for same things (I have both grips, in which I add a pinkie lever similar to Warthog). As you "drive move bus" in WWII sim/games (heavies), this spring less stick seems comfortable - is the similar to (Rip) Tarmac Aces base concept* - but and for "dogfights" usage? * Tarmac Aces base was created based on the proposal of Oleg Maddox for new system of trim for WWII sim's. Which was defeated. Edited August 13, 2016 by Sokol1
Lusekofte Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 Tarmac Aces base was created based on the proposal of Oleg Maddox for new system of trim for WWII sim's. Which was defeated. I ordered from them a stick and throttle, but never got it, but I got my money back. The stick is very good for dogfighting, much better than I ever believed it would. It is very accurate. I started to like the grip very much, I agree it is better with buttons than more hat switches . Anyway Maxflightstick coming with a much better and improved rudder, I might sell my MFG and get these Analog Hall effect sensors toe brake rudder and deluxe version with full ball bearings. It will connect to my stick and collective and free one USB hotas . Witch will bring me down to 3 and the ultimate number you can use in old IL 2
Sokol1 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) This rudder can look nice or maybe more solid, but their center mechanism don't looks better than MFG, seems based in "pincer" center with 2 opposing springs - wha tends to oscillate around center position. Lusekofte Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 I doubt they are better than the MFG pedals, but in my opinion I think the movements are pretty similar. I counted wrong btw I got two Leo Bodnar BU0836X in my panels 1 for my throttle. Then one for the stick and collective and one for the rudder. I will go down to 4 and that is 1 more than IL 2 can handle. I have the kit widening the pedals giving a bit more space for the stick to move. I am in need for a upgrade on my PC, if I go for VR I probably buy a new one, but I am in great doubt. The Oculus Rift and Vive do not get the best resolution, and are expensive . If I stick with screen I probably good with much cheaper GPU. But I need to change my rubbish i7 2,8 cpu for a better one, and then there are mainboard .
