Bearcat Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I have been having some viewing issues that I am beginning to suspect is my TIR. I have TIR 4 and often when I hit the center key it just doesn't work. I have reinstalled SW and drivers several times. It is pretty random... so I am thinking it may just be going south.. anyone else ever have that issue where the center key just stops working, even with the heads? Often it is after I load up a sim.. it could be BoS or more recently even IL2 .. when I try to center the view it's like it tries to center but sticks... I think this was my problem in BoS aside from not getting the key commands quite right .. this issue was complicating things a bit.
JaMz Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I do have this issue now and then but as you say I just have to alt-tab and get the heads up to then centre them then from there everything is normal and it works in game...doesn't happen a lot but it does happen
ST_ami7b5 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 In TIR5 it's labeled "Trap" From help: Trap Checkbox Trapped hotkeys will not be available to any other programs. Untrapped hotkeys will still perform the hotkey function within the TrackIR software, but can also be simultaneously used in other software that is running alongside TrackIR. 1
ST_ami7b5 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) And thank you for bringing it up! Edited November 25, 2013 by ST_ami7b5
Bearcat Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 I have tried this trapped and un trapped.. and it just stops working. All the hotkeys do. I have tried reinstalling the SW. This is driving me nuts. I have ordered a TIR 5 but I am hoping that this problem doesn't pop up in that one as well. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The thing is I will have it working fine in IL2 and then often after I fire up BoS or RoF .. and sometimes just randomly it stops working, even in IL2. If I have the heads up they do not move at all... but if it happens when I am in IL2 it is like the thing tries to center but can't..

Bearcat Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 I ran across this post on the 1C '46 boards.. I made some changes and I will see how it goes when I update. I did the same thing to all my sims.. admin rights .. and to the TIR.exe. My problem was that even after I shut down whatever sim it was.. it would still not work. At first I thought it was a BoS thing but it isn't. Hopefully changing the rights on the exe wll fix it. W7 is stable.. but it sucks for some other reasons.. most notably all the permissions cr@p and the read only bug, that seems to come and go. I should be able to set rights based on my user profile and that is it. I am the only one who uses this PC and of course I am an admin but I constantly have to jump through hoops because the OS has all these other issues that it's predecessor did not. The best thing about W7 is the memory usage (I am sure there are other things but that is the big one..) .. otherwise it is a PITA.
Bando Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I hope I'm not "kicking in an open door", but what is the background of the room. Any sunshine on the wall, or some hotspot or a lamp? I had my TIR go crazy because of that. I did not see any sunshin on the wall, but the wall was a lot warmer in some places compared to the rest of the wall. Long story short: I figured it out when someone standing behind me blocked the wall from "TIR sight" and when he moved it was back (the erratic sights and the unability to centre the thing). Hanging a sheet there solved it and the thing worked again as advertised. Just trying to help.
Bearcat Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 No .. that wasn't it.. I tried the administrator rights thing and so far I have had no issues. I finally got it working right.
Bearcat Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Well the problem is back.. but this is really odd. I open up the TIR SW and I view my heads. Everything works fine. The heads center when I hit my center key as they should. I boot the launcher. Launch. The sim boots up. I put in my password. Got to Missions. I select the mission and I get the little circle as the screen loads and that's it. Now if I hit P I will hear the sounds of the tarmac.. the trucks etc but my screen is still black. If I hit P again the sounds go away as they should if I hit Pause.. but again my screen is still black. The ESC key also stops working. The only way I can get into the sim is to do a C+A+D and open up the TM. Once I do that.. I don't have to do anything in it.. just open it. Then when I click my mouse on the sim the screen will appear, I hit P and I am on the tarmac.. but my TIR is not working .. or if it is working as far as moving my head goes it still will not center.. and my ESC key still does not work so I can't even exit the sim. The only way for me to exit the sim is open up the TM and shut down IL2 from there. Then when I go back into my TIR SW and activate the heads of course they still no longer work. After this I usually have to shut down TIR as well in the TM and unplug/replug my TIR to get it working again. I run the sim in 1650x1080 because if I run it at the native res of my monitor which is 1920x1080 and this happens .. with the ESC key not working I have no way to exit the sim other than logging off. If I uncheck full screen.. when I reboot the sim it is still checked .. along with the HUD Hint message that has a check mark that does not work. I uncheck it so that won't pop up the next time.. and the next time I open e my hud there it is. This is very odd.
dburne Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) So then, what happens if you run the sim without your Track IR software running? If it works as should , repeatedly, then my first thought would be the TIR software somehow got corrupted. Probably what I would do in that case, is make sure I have a backup saved somewhere of my custom profiles, then completely uninstall the software, download the latest version and reinstall it. Also, if you are installing to the default location - c:/program files (X86) - I would not do that, I would install it outside of that folder, like C:/Natural Point/ - or even another partition if you have one. Mine I have installed on another partition. Make sure when you run the installer you " run as administrator". When your TIR 5 arrives, you will want to do a clean install of the software anyway, so if that is going to be soon you might just wait and do it then... Did this just begin on the 25th? You stated you have been having viewing issues that you began to suspect was TIR related, so has it been happening for long? Edited December 7, 2013 by dburnette
Bearcat Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Yeah this was even happening in IL2 off and on.. but the sim wouldn't lock up and the keys always worked.. I just couldn't get my view to center.. it would try to center for about half second then snap back to it's skewed view.. Sometimes rebooting would fix it.. sometimes not. It was always random and it would be working one minute and then ion the very next coop it would be fubar. Because it behaved differently with BoS I thought that there may have been something related to BoS that was changing the dynamic a bit. I now believe it is a W7 issue the more I think of it.. I will try what you suggested.. I already re loaded the SW twice but I sent it to the same folder.. the P..(x86) folder.. Last night I re did the run as admin on the BoS exe and the TIR exe and it worked fine.. Isn't there a way in W7 to just tell it to automatically run everything as admin? I am the only one who uses my PC and this kind of stuff is what maks me bite my thumb at MS... I think on some subliminal level I was also partly looking for an excuse to get a TIR 5...
Creepermoss Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off
Bearcat Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off That is already done... I did that when I installed W7.. That is why I am surprised that I still get run as admin messages.

Yes - right click the shortcut, click the properties tab, down toward the bottom is a box you can put a check in to " run this program as administrator".
arjisme Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 That is already done... I did that when I installed W7.. That is why I am surprised that I still get run as admin messages. Try installing the game in a folder that is not under Program Files. I have Rof and BoS installed under C:\Games. I'm running under Windows 7 as Administrator and I don't get the prompts you are talking about.
