taffy2jeffmorgan Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Hi All, My question is- has anyone installed the free Thrustmaster software [ T.A.R.G.E.T, thrustmaster advanced programming graphical editor ] if so, is it in anyway beneficial for joystick setup ? I have a Thrustmaster T 16000m and i just assign all the sticks functions via the in game key settings, will this Thrustmaster software allow me greater stick function capability. Cheers
dburne Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Yes as far as the TARGET software, it will allow one much more depth in assigning their controllers. As far as the GUI interface, there is "Basic" and "Advanced". Basic - not so much, it is very much basic and simple. I personally would not mess with using it if that were all I was going to use it for. Advanced - allows much more flexibility in what one can do with the controller, ie assigning a modifier to the controller and using it for seperate commands for button presses. For instance, I have my paddle on my Warthog assigned as a modifier, so I can have say Hat 2 Up, to do one command, then with the paddle held, have the same Hat 2 Up do something entirely different. Not to mention chains and sequences one can do with it. Or a sequence, say I want H3U to perform an external view on one press, then a fly by on a second press, then back to cockpit on third press, and repeat. The real depth of it, is in the Script Editor. Though there you are dealing with raw code, rather than a GUI interface. Having said that , the software is not for everyone. Some guys love it, and really get into created custom stick profiles with it, and some just do not like it at all and prefer not to go through it or have the program running. I would suggest, just download the TARGET manual from the TM website, and having a read through the Advanced GUI part of the manual. If it sounds intriguing and something you think you would like to do, give it a try. Nothing to lose . If it does not sound like your cup of tea, then don't mess with it. taffy2jeffmorgan Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Thanks very much for that in depth information, I installed the software, but just bringing up the screen and without assigning any keys I found that it had caused strange effects to my controls within BoS and the old problem of trying take off in a Fw 190 had returned [uncontrollable yawing] So i uninstalled the software and now effects are back to normal ? so with that in mind i my give it a miss for now. Cheers.
KoN_ Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I think TARGET has issues with this game . IMHO the whole joystick interface should be changed.
Sokol1 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Botton line is that this game controls don't need this "press joystick button to press keyboard keys to send commands for game". Map joystick buttons in game GUI is easy an sufficient. Mapping HAT to do 24 different this result confuse in dogfights - this is useful for "simulate" procedures in DCSW. http://www.krauselabs.net/dump/extreme3dpro_DCS_screen.png A real TARGET benefit in BoS is set custom response curves, what game controls don't allow. Or make "cheats", e.g. virtual aileron trim for Bf 109, etc. Edited August 15, 2016 by Sokol1

LOL, I have been using TARGET for some time and can't say I have ever mapped 24 commands to one hat. Yeah that would be real confusing indeed. Ironically DCS is the only sim I prefer to use the game GUI rather than TARGET. Edited August 15, 2016 by dburne
KoN_ Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I have tried TARGET for my cuves and i really liked it , but my keys would not work once in the game there are conflicts for some reason my joy-id would change .
