Hi all,

First off let me apologise for another pc spec post however I am totally out of the loop when it comes to computers.

I used to play IL2-1946 quite a while back and now I'm looking at getting back into flying with BOS + BOM but my hardware is lacking.

Ive set myself a budget of around £600 would it be achievable to have a rig that runs IL2 smoothly with decent graphics for this price and if so can anyone offer any suggestions as what I should be looking at.

Thanks!

That's a tough nut to crack mate. I know nothing of prices in UK. But before I can try and help could you tell me what you currently have and what possibly could you keep ? 600 Pounds is not that huge budget so making some savings on stuff like case or cd/dvd drive is always welcomed.

£600 is indeed a little light for a good rig. As Hiromachi suggests, maybe re-using some of the components of your current setup would help with that. If you already have a reasonable graphics card, HDD/SSD, power supply, and optical drive, and case you should be able to get there though.

I suggest that you look at a Core i5 Processor (the i5 6600 or 6600K is highly recommended on several sites) and maybe a Z170 chipset Motherboard. You don't necessarily need water cooling for such a setup though it may help. Also I would recommend at least 8GB of RAM (maybe 16GB if you can afford it).

Don't forget that you may want to plug lots of USB devices into the PC for flight control, so an ample number of USB ports is recommended.

My computer recently died but the rig I had would be pretty similar to the one you link too.  It ran IL2 just fine. and even on the second lowest setting.  Even on high it would run for the most part just fine ( a little stuttery on the ground though).

Personally I would not spend that amount of money on a system that is going to struggle

I fully understand the concept of a budget, but six hundred pounds is still a significant investment

A slightly higher budget will get you much better performance per pound, although much more expensive, the Skylake gaming system (from the same site) will be a much better current Gen starting point

At purchase or a later date if you added a GTX1060 you have a top end machine which will have a decent life cycle, the AMD budget choice (great for many types of games but not really suitable for flight sims) will not upgrade significantly and will be a GBP 600 lost investment

Just something to consider  ;)
