Uriah Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Are the devs using a vitural wind tunnel? Nothing like a wind tunnel to try things out on the cheap before building something. Inspired by the Wright Brothers.
FuriousMeow Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I don't see how it would be much help as the flight model isn't based on the 3D model and is only really helpful in determining airflow over the 3D model but not necessarily how it will fly but instead on how clean the build is of the physical model.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 The game engine is all the wind tunnel they need. And they get to check all tbe other good bits there too.
Sethos Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I'm sure the plane designs they are using have already proven their worth in the sky
pixelshader Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 i look forward to the year when flight sims will simulate every molecule of air in real time
Phant0m Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 If used correctly, you can get an awful lot of information from simulation - including performance estimates. I'm not sure how FM's are built but I can say that a lot of aircraft parameters can't be solved correctly analytically; so I would be surprised if modelling software was not used.
