Launcher won't start or update.

I normally execute the game through the IL-2.exe file, which works great unless an update is required.  I tried to start today, but can not connect due to not running the latest version.  

 

To update, I tried executing launcher.exe.

 

The launcher doesn't display.  I can see the launcher run for maybe 10 seconds in task manager and then disappear.

 

I've tried clearing out the updates folder.  I've tried rebooting.  I've tried praying to Morena.

 

Help.

yep, after the update the launcher hang and is damn slow

Having exactly the same problem. Quite frustrating. Let us know what comes out from your ticket

 

Edit: When I go to the task manager, right click on launcher and > o to details, it says lancher is suspended. I went on the 'wait chain" it says "One or more threads of launcher.exe are waiting to finish network I/O".
 

No idea what that all means but..yeah..

 

No Il2 for me today I guess 

 

 

Edit 2 :  Checked it out of curiosity (3hrs later) and... it works now. I guess I'll go to bed later than planned Gotta get my Il2 fix...

I received the following response from support:

Hi,

 

This situation can occur only in one case. The update files have been damaged.

You need to perform the following steps:

 

Try the following:

-delete the contents of the folder "Game folder\updates"

-update the game

 

Before the run and update game, after deleting the contents of the folder "Game folder\updates", you need to make sure that you have implemented the recommendations, which are published at http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5321-faq-about-launcher-and-updating/

I had the same problem since 2.002 updating and so 2.003.....

 

I found a solution by replacing "launcher.exe" by an older version of this one.

 

So there is a problem with this file from version 2.002

All of a sudden I can't launch the game today.  Tried reinstalling ms crap from redist folder, just in case....

 

I'm not even getting a launch screen.  Game crashes with "unable to create d3d device" error when I use il2.exe

 

yeehaw.

 

Edit:  Tried Tiger_33's solution above.  It did not work for me.  That is all.  Gonna start following the steps laid out above from BlackSix.

 

Edit:  Deleted updates folder contents, ran shortcut as "administrator", launcher runs and scans files aaaaand, downloads a new update....

 

....and I'm in.

So the bug came back for me and I think I found the solution ---

 

I have steam, and it runs in the background, but I don't use it for IL-2.  If steam is open and I try to launch the launcher nothing happens.  If I close steam, and launch the launcher, all is well.
