seafireliv Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) Thought I`d try here first to see if you guys came across this and might be able to help. Already beginning to regret re-installing WinX when Win7 was working perfectly..... With Win 7 64 bit i could install a blank DVD and record files off my pc straight to the disc. No problem. I install WinX and and I want to record some files I created to my DVD, but now the DVD needs to be formatted? First question- Why? Win7 never needed this, it would always work straight away, no formatting required. The DVD type is exactly the same and the DVD recorder used is exactly the same type. So I tell it to Format anyway. It arses about for 5 minutes before telling me it failed. I try a new disc- same thing. Second question: Can anyone advise me why WinX is doing this? It has to be WinX since it`s the only part of the my recording method that has changed. Can it be easily fixed or will I be returning to Win7 asap? Thanks in advance. p.s. the DVD/CD recorder plays back from the DVD fine of previously recorded stuff. Edited August 7, 2016 by seafireliv

Have you contacted Windows support? (silly I know, but worth a try) Edited August 7, 2016 by 216th_Jordan
seafireliv Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 Have you tried to install a device driver for your dvd drive? Have you contacted Windows support? (silly I know, but worth a try) Well it tells me the best driver is already installed. I`ve not contacted Windows support yet, but I have checked their help site and it seems a few other people are having almost the same identical problem. One has had this problem for at least a year and still not solved.
Sokol1 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) You are trying using Windows DVD Maker? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/2f025e05-df01-4587-afc6-a8ca96ce9a66/make-dvds-on-windows-10 There the old CDBurnerXP still working under Win10/64. seafireliv Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) You are trying using Windows DVD Maker? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/2f025e05-df01-4587-afc6-a8ca96ce9a66/make-dvds-on-windows-10 There the old CDBurnerXP still working under Win10/64. DVD Maker is on my pc (thankfully it didn`t charge me). There`s nothing on it to enable recording. UPDATE: However, when I put a blank disc in this time WinX was allowing me to burn and did. I didn`t have to use DVD maker at all. Or even Format. So what was all that crap about formatting about? I ruined 2 discs because of that. I`m not sure whether just selecting DVD Maker activated something or if this is some fluke. I was 10 seconds away from reinstalling Win 7. Maybe WinX sensed that and gave in! Anyway, I can record now. But why did it make it so hard in the first place? And people wonder why some Users are paranoid about M$- This kind of nonsense is why! If it gives me any more hassles, Win 7 is a just an arm`s reach away. I`m not young enough or stupid enough to be messed around with, M$! Thanks for your help, people. Sokol1 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 The link say that DVD Maker is not compatible with Windows X, why I ask. Suggest go to MS App Store and buy a new program... My Windows rule #1: Besides Windows, don't use any soft made be MS. So, thing goes well. Get a freeware DVD recorder and by happy: https://www.winxdvd.com/resource/top3-free-dvd-burning-software-review.htm
seafireliv Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 Not sure if you read what I wrote, but it works now, so i don`t need a 3rd party utility, Thanks.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 -snip- Anyway, I can record now. But why did it make it so hard in the first place? And people wonder why some Users are paranoid about M$- This kind of nonsense is why! -snip- Did you consider the fact that M$ had to pay licensing fees for every copy of every edition of Windows that was sold that utilized codecs/features that are licensed by other non-M$ vendors? Assuming you're entitled to something is nonsense, really. Clearly, Microsoft should be paranoid about its users.
