JG_Meyer Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Well, I´m trying to have some fun offline, but there are some oddities with the AI in game. And yes, my parameter is the (good) old IL2 1. What´s the difference between Novice and Ace? Hard to tell. They fly the same, and their shooting skills are too close. What´s the point here then? 2. According with BOS/BOM, Soviet Union would win the war with the Rata. They climb like crazy, shoot like snipers (even at novice level), no matter the situation...face to face, deflection, etc 3. The poor P-40. Man, the AI in this plane can barely fly. Any quick mission involving the P-40 it´s a waste. You have just wait they crash by themselves, usually stalling over the trees. 4. The Pe-2. Take the Pe-2 gunners alone, and they win the war. I don´t know what´s the experience regarding the german planes AI though... oppinions? There are plans to improve the AI routine?
Jade_Monkey Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 The p40 ai is a joke. I agree that they just stall and crash on their own, no need to chase them.
PatrickAWlson Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 There was already a thread where I posted all manner of stuff. Folks can agree or disagree, but what it comes down to is that it would take a massive effort with many stumbles along t way to create the AI that everybody wants. 1. It would be interesting to know. 2. The AI does not know how to fly a faster plane properly. It maneuvers and maneuvers and maneuvers some more. German pilots did not run up scores or survive by turn fighting with I16s. Nor did SPAD or SE5a pilots in WWI. 3. See #2. The AI is just better with lighter, maneuverable planes. P-40 might be an extreme case. 4. Over accurate gunners - that has been on the table since 2009.
seafireliv Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) ACE AI fighters will pop you off the moment they get on your six wheras Novice will take a while and give you some warning by missing. They`re also pretty good on head-on attacks. Edited August 7, 2016 by seafireliv
Juri_JS Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) There are indeed a lot of things that need fixing. While building missions for the Fw-190, I've noticed, that the Fw AI doesn't work correctly with certain MCUs, for example Command:AttackArea (Attack Air Targets) or Command:Cover. Only the flight leader will perform these commands correctly, but his wingmen will lose altitude and crash. Because of these bugs I had to put a Fw-190 mission project on hold, after I had already spend dozens of hours working on it. 3. The poor P-40. Man, the AI in this plane can barely fly. Any quick mission involving the P-40 it´s a waste. You have just wait they crash by themselves, usually stalling over the trees. I had reported this bug many month ago, but nothing was changed, so I had to stop using AI P-40s in my missions. Edited August 8, 2016 by Juri_JS
No601_Swallow Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) While we're on the subject, the MCU Command:AttackArea (Attack Air Targets - or any targets in fact), does not work for any AI aircraft in MP "dogfight" missions for AI to attack player-controlled aircraft (although it usually seems to work fine in SP). This is a long-standing "bug" that's been discussed quite a lot in the mission building forum. It's a "thing" for coop-type missions, seriously complicating mission design, as mission builders try to make it less noticeable. Edit: this issue has been fixed in game update 2.003! AI will now react to player-controlled aircraft without being attacked first! Hurrah! [On the whole, though, apart from the P-40 lawn-darting when low and slow, personally I think the AI is OK - on a par with most other sims. Maybe though in future, some boffin in the dev's studios will burn the midnight oil and - like a modern-day Frankenstein, fake an AI that truly seems "human"... Here's hopin'!] Edited August 10, 2016 by No601_Swallow
III/JG2Gustav05 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 One of the most annoying thing I have met very frequenctly in offline campaign is that your spread-out AI wingmen dive to ground when you are diving to attack the enemy. It seems they are trying to follow me and rejoin to me. My squardon's 50% lost is due to this reason.
