 Got It to work...you need to start a new campaign and then edit the campaign file by changing the start date from 1/1/42 to 1/10.41..you need to this to all of the squad....if you have stats from a campaign just change all the dates to 1/10/41 and they will register....all kills show up.  Guess it just thinks you got the kills earlier...flew a couple of missions and saw no problems,

Also any medals including the flight badge need to be change to 1/10/41 also.

Hi CATHAOIR, I guess you're replying to my same inquiry, but althouh I also managed to get the new starting date to work correctly, the issue seems to be with the generated missions: like I described, no enemy aircraft ever get generated, with this tweak. Have you tried? Does it work for you?

Hi Picchio,  Did not realize that the missions I flew yesterday were both ground attack and I couldn't remember If I saw any enemy planes....So I ran another mission and got an intercept mission...Just testing I ran in with auto-pilot and when I got close to the intercept point there were 3 I-16's and about 5 Il-2's.....not sure why you do not get any generated....I will share my squad file and campaign files..you can check yours against mine...something must be different..not sure why mine works and your does not.  Here you go...good luck

Hi Patrick, today I gave the Bf110 another try, but 400km/h with bombs under the fuselage is too high. You need the 30min. combat power to hold this speed and because of this the flight never closes up to formation. Maybe you can decrease the speed a bit to about 350km/h, so it is possible to fly in formation to the target.

 That AI sure knows the ranks of pilots in the planes then :P Why does it have to be so stupid? PWCG is a great piece of software adding a lot to the game. Thank You for that!

Brings up a good general idea: reduce cruise speed for any fighter carrying bombs.  I'll drop the 110 cruise speed a bit as well.

Thanks Patrick, I also noticed the problem with the He111, with a cruise speed of 300km/h, it is hard to not get lost.

This is a very large update with an emphasis on the UI,  Due to the size it's a beta.  Significant changes to briefing and debrief.  Take a moment to play with the new fonts.  It makes the UI look a lot nicer when you find the one that you want.

Some things:

I noticed that after accepting the mission the mission map is no longer available. I used to alt tab to this map to check on the wind (on the in game map it is not mentioned) and the final area in case of a ground attack, for this is also not mentioned on the in game map.

 

One more thing: After the accepting of the mission the screen goes to the "start screen" of the selected career. To be able to go to the debrief after I alt tabbed out of the game after a mission, I must extit this career and enter it again, for the debrief is greyed out.

 

What I used to do in earlier versions was leave the map screen open as I flew the mission and after the mission I'd click on the "back to campaign" button to get to the debrief.

 

I hope this makes sense.

I'll work on reentering the mission  after accepting.  That was an unintended consequence and should not be difficult to correct.

 

The need to exit and reenter the main campaign screen has always been like that.  That comes about because if there is no trigger to do something (i.e. the page is just sitting there) then the software that evaluates state never triggers.  I think an easy option is to make the combat report button available all the time and simply put up a "No combat reports to file" page if it is selected without a combat report.

Hi Patrick, first I want to thank you for the new version.

I did some flying with the 109G2 and the 110. For the 109G2 I noticed, the cruising speed of 450km/h is also a bit high, we were never flying in formation, most time the flightleader was about 1km or more in front of us.

The new cruising speed for the 110 fits quite well, when everything works fine. But I noticed some problems of the AI with flying the 110. Maybe it has to do with the lack of experience of the AI at the beginning of a campaign. They have some problems with starting the 110, in most of the missions one of them drifted to the left out of the runway, sometimes he managed to takeoff, sometimes he crashed about 50m left of the track. Sometimes the aircraft flying in front of me, did some strange turnings after takeoff and then was flying with low speed in low altitude to the ingress waypoint and only then started accelerating and climbing to the correct altitude. Of course we then did not catch up to the flightleader. Another thing I watched was the a/c in front of me waving up and down all the time, mainly during climb, but sometimes even in levelflight, which looks very strange.

But the missions, where everything worked fine, were pretty well.

To the new GUI, I can say, I like it. It works fine for me, despite two problems I found.The first thing you might have forgotten. In the debriefing map, the 'next event' and 'previous event' buttons are missing, you can only start the debriefing and all the red and pink marks appear in one second on the map, as the events do on the right side in the event list. The second thing is the event list, when the list popped up, the scroll bar is at the bottom, you scroll it up, to read what happened, but when you now go with your cursor on the map to zoom or drag it, the scroll bar falls down to the bottom again.

I don´t know, what you can do about AI behaviour, or what is even wanted, but the two problems of the GUI shouldn´t be a big thing.

I too experience the flight leader getting way out ahead of me, the other 2 in a 4 plane flight also fly at a rate that makes it hard to keep up. Everybody seems to slow down in advance of a target and I catch up. From there the flight stays mostly together. It doesn't impact missions much though.

 

But overall PWCG gets better and better thanks to Pats great work.

Planes flying in formation especially bombers should not fly at top speed in general. When turning the planes on the outer side i.e. right in a left turn have to be able to fly faster than the leader.

 

We use somwhere around 70% to 75% of throttle for bombers when climbing and turning and 80% to 90% at level flight

In view of this: I have seen the flightlead do 360's to let the number 3 and 4 catch up.

At first I (as the number 2) thought he, the flightlead, saw an enemy somewhere, as the turn sustained. But after a full 360 the other members of the 4 man flight caught up and we continued our offensive patrol.

The climb circle, Patrick did, is a very good solution, to get the flight together. The problem here is, that after the circle, when heading to the target, the AI accelerates with maximum power settings, as I see this. AI goes always to the limit, what I don´t want, as it does not make sense for the case, you get attacked, you don´t have reserves. What I also noticed, with the initial waypoint at 3000m, the flightleader makes a hard 180° turn back to the airfield and then again a hard 180° turn to the ingress waypoint. When I set the initial waypoint to 5000m, he doesn´t do that, just a short turn to the right and then back towards the ingress waypoint.

When I fly the BOS 'campaign' as flightleader, I always do a turn of at least 270°,depending on the direction I have to fly to, and climb with maximum cruising power only, so my flight is able to catch up. When they are in formation, I increase power. Quite often they do not come to formation during climb, then I have to reduce power, when I reached the combat altitude, because it is very important to get in formation, especially with bombers, for better protection.

You're right in some cases. The opposite is also true.

On an intercept mission (not the short intercept on the airfield but the long intercept at height) the AI number 1 takes off, flies the climb pattern and toward the WP's of the intercept (large legs high up) he slows down to 280 ish in a Yak (observed this in a Mig as well), while still climbing. It's really hard to stay in formation at that moment. (plus you do not go anywhere fast).

Ahhhh, yes I observed this with the 109G2, too. It was really hard to do, especially as I was flying at the right side of our formation and we always did turn right, so I always had to brake and then accelerate to catch up again. But don´t get too fast our you will overtake them. And all this at a cruising speed of less than 300km/h, not the speed, a single seated fighter really likes.

Another thing, I noticed. I wondered, that I was able to fly with 25% oil and water radiator flaps. In BOS campaign, I needed full water flaps. Then I noticed the airtemperature gauge in my 110 showing only 15°C at 14.00h on july,1st 1942 in the BOS map.

Hi Patrick,

Just figured out that when you accept the mission and you come back to the squadron screen, you can click "mission" again and you are back in the same mission you just accepted (I was initially afraid it would generate a new one). So by doing this I can check the map and the wind during my flight in game (by alt tabbing).

After the mission, all I do is click "back to campaign" and the debrief option is clickable. No need to exit the campaign in this case.

Maybe it's not too much trouble for you to make sure a player stays in the briefing screens, so that it happens automatically.

Hi Patrick, first I just want to congratulate you for this great program, it has returned me the joy of flying an off-line campaign in BoS (hell, don't the game programers see the boredom in the standard campaigns??).

Then, one demand :)

Usually flying the 109, sometimes I find it hard to keep up in climb with the rest of the schwarm/rotte (when I am not leading it), unless I burn the engine. Could you decrease the climb speed of the formation?

Then, I understand the last version is Beta 2.1, right?

In *:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\PWCGCampaign\BoSData\Input" there's a file called "AircraftInfo.config". It a simple text file. You can alter the speeds in there yourself. Scroll down to the plane you want and alter the cruise speed, save, restart PWCG and you're good to go.

The odds of opposing flight parameter would only come into play if the use opposing flight flag is 1.  Which is bad design on my part for creating two parameters where on would do.

 

What I have found is that there is plenty of contact with the enemy is plentiful without running a flight down the player's throat.  In the old days the machines could handle so few flights that the opposing flights were necessary.  Over the past seven years machines are much more powerful and I have long since developed virtual flights, so I get quite a few more flights in the air than I used to be able to.  Not having opposing flights makes for much more natural contact.

I know that I do not have time limitations.  I do however have missions flown limitations and at 28 missions you should not have been promoted.  It is also the case that victory criteria are more WWI oriented than WWII.  Should probably be higher for WWII.

Hello

I'm enjoying very much the PWCG and 2.1 , but meets some (minor) difficulties / bugs and can't find expalantion in those threads?

a) skin management 

a1: the game default skins are not seen by PWCG (when scanning in 2.1 and when looking for it in the campaign pilot skin assignement page, whatever the option)

a2: However User skins (ie in the game skin folder as .dds) are found OK in campaign pilot skin assignement page , selecting "loose"

a3: When selecting a (user/loose) skin for the player, it is OK in PWCG, however this does not appear in the generated mission ( sad, as I wanted to look good :-)

 

NB: in my install the skins seems to be assigned in the squadron file but the skin per plane text files are empty ; I suppose this is normal

NB2: My game is installed on the system SSD, but not in the windows Program folder (actually in c:\SSDGames\BOS)

 

b) on the game map, the flight plan lines appears in white, not black?

 

Again , minor points vs the immense enjoyment PWCG brings

PWCG finds skins in the directory structure.  If a skin is bundled into the game there is no way for PWCG to know that it exists.  I can look into the assignment of personal skins.

 

The skin definition files are empty because that bit of work has not been done.  On the RoF side there are over 6.000 skins defined.  That required a lot of help from a lot of people over a period of time.  It can happen on the BoS side too, but it will require help from the community.  The code is already in place, so as soon as PWCG has data different skins will start to appear in game (assuming BoS handles skins the same way that RoF does).

 

Not sure about the black/white thing.  I see the same in RoF.  I don't think that I specify a color ... maybe I should?  Not sure how but I can have a look at other missions.
