itsmecamille Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 (edited) Hi there, first time using PWCG for IL2, had been using it a lot for RoF. So, I created a campaign, accepted my first mission - I can see the file creates in the <IL2 root>\data\missions, but when I start IL2 and select the "Missions" button, I only seem to get a set of premade missions and cannot see the one created by PWCG. I'm sure I'm being dumb here and missing something obvious? Is there a step I've missed or something I'm not doing right to see this mission? Sorry if I'm being very noobish here. EDIT: it looks like it happened only when I created a campaign in feb 1942 in Stalingrad. When starting in Aug 1942 my mission appeared. Edited September 8, 2016 by ptisinge
PatrickAWlson Posted September 8, 2016 Author Posted September 8, 2016 Hi there, first time using PWCG for IL2, had been using it a lot for RoF. I think I know. My guess is that you do not own BoM but the mission put you into a BoM aircraft. BoS will not display the mission as flyable because you don't own the plane. If you only own BoS starting in August 1942 is best, as that is the timeline for BoS planes. I added BoM planes on the Stalingrad map to extend the game play on that map. In the next release PWCG will warn you when the mission is for a plane that you do not own.
itsmecamille Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Ok, thanks, that makes sense and was also what I suspected was happening - except that the flyable as player was a plane that I was pretty sure to own as part of BOS - would it also have resulted in an invisible mission if AI planes included some of the BOM flyable ones? My guess is that this was the issue. Anyway, August is working without issues for 2 campaigns now. Thanks again for PWCG, it is the best thing that happened to RoF and IL2 BOS. I can't wait flying a PWCG campaign in VR when that eventually becomes possible (for now I'm back to other sims with VR, except maybe RoF which I love too much to completely abandon).
PatrickAWlson Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Everything is fine if the "not owned" plane is AI. Only the player plane has to be owned. However, BoM planes do appear on the BoS map, especially early. A squadron might fly the Me109 F2 early and switch to the F4 later.
itsmecamille Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Ok thanks! I gave IL2 on monitor another chance yesterday (but a big part of the magic is gone because of how VR feels. Thankfully next year this will all be ok again with IL2 in VR). I noticed that whenever I got an intercept misison there were several waypoints drawn right at the edges of the map - I don't know if that's just meant to be like that but it looks like a bug in the coordinates generation for the waypoints. I also noticed that when flying a patrol in a fighter where the order was "attack any plane you encounter" our flight leader let a flight of Stukas happily fly under us (really not far from us) without starting an attack on them.
Bando Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Had the WP issue also a couple of times. I just scrub the mission and create a new one with the WP's "normal".
PatrickAWlson Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Fixed in next release. I had an extra zero in the length of the outer leg, so each leg of the outer circle was 250 KM instead of 25.
BMW801 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Your work is superb!!! I downloaded your new version and tried to transfer the campaign information from the old version. Everything is accurate, but the victory numbers did not transfer to the pilot rosters in the new version. Do you know of a solution to correct the victory numbers?
PatrickAWlson Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 PWCG 2.0 Fixed: Many aircraft have different loadouts to their wingmen. Fixed: Missions at night in PWCG have all-white skies. Fixed: Trains are in the wrong spot (same with other vehicles?) LLv24_Zami Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Great! Your work for BoS offline players is appreciated
Azdack Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Hello everybody. Oups got a problem since last 2.003 update. I correctly installed last version of PWCG 2.0 but after having clicked on "accept mission" into PWCG I can't find the mission in the game under "missions"...thanks in advance for help.
PatrickAWlson Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Hello everybody. Oups got a problem since last 2.003 update. I correctly installed last version of PWCG 2.0 but after having clicked on "accept mission" into PWCG I can't find the mission in the game under "missions"...thanks in advance for help. Is the mission file actually in the mission directory? If yes but it is not showing up then the problem is usually that PWCG put you into a plane that you don't own. Mission files are just text. If you want you can open up the mission file, find your plane (look for your pilot's name) and check. Per PWCG 2.0 - please make sure that after installing you run the mission all the way (starting with creating the mission) using the new code. I.e. do not create a mission with Beta 3 and then try to do the debrief with 2.0 release. it won't work. Create the mission with 2.0 and go through the whole process using the new code base.
PatrickAWlson Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Something about 2.0: I made a significant change at the end of the development process. Not something I like to do but I felt it was necessary. I found a way to mate log file sets with PWCG missions. Prior to the latest release PWCG operated under the assumption that the .missionData file (generated by PWCG) would mate with the log files being processed. The code operated on this assumption because I did not know of any way to do the mapping. If this assumption turned out not to be true all manner of strangeness could result. On Friday i figured it out and coded and tested through the weekend. This was not a trivial change but necessary. if you see any errors being issued from PWCG related to not having mission data available post here. This change is why you must not mix missions generated with Beta 3 and the actual release. .missionData files created by the Betas will not map to log file sets, and the release version will have no idea what to do with them. 1
PatrickAWlson Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Last but not least - "release' means that I think it's good enough to call it that. Version 2.0 has some major changes, and it took time and testing to get it sorted. I appreciate everybody that took the time to test and provide feedback. "Release" does not mean "there won't be another PWCG for six months". If an error comes up it will get fixed ASAP. Additional features will be added in hopefully smaller, quicker batches. 1
Azdack Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks Patrick. Have fixed my problem with a clean install in the.....right folder!!! Sorry having disturb the net with such silly problem.

PatrickAWlson Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 That's different. AType:3 is a "destroyed" log. Parsing of those has not changed. At line 23 it is parsing the position. A well formed Atype:3 log looks like this: AType:3 AID:33791 TID:92159 POS(71061.383,2051.458,264423.156) You can see that the position parameters (N/S, Height, E/W) are all float values. The represent offset from the southwest corner (0,0) in meters. Where would it come up with "1.#QO"? Can you give me a hand? Best is if you have your mission logs and campaign files. Barring that I'll take just the mission logs. Barring that I'll take a description of the kind of mission you were flying and what you were blowing up.
Taxman Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks Pat, I just read the last 10 posts and my question was answered, do a clean install. Been using beta 3 and having fun, now I just need to remember the unit I had with 7 missions just to see if they come up the same. Ops just got the call, last day my sister from Fla. is here and I promised her dinner tonight, will install later. Again than you Pat.
Cybermat47 Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I've noticed two minor problems: 1) Dive bombers, attack aircraft, bombers, and possibly fighters, have been circling waypoints. It seems that they haven't gotten close enough for the game to mark the waypoint as being completed. 2) Ju-87 D-3s are being given 37mm anti-tank cannons as early as 01-10-1941, when the first flight of a Stuka with the 37mm cannons was on the 31st of January 1943. It would make sense to have the 37mms for BoK, but as the release for that is over a year away, perhaps removing the 37mms from PWCG entirely would be a good solution for the moment?
LLv24_Zami Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Last night I had an airfield attack mission in my Bf-109E7 Jabo campaign. All went well but when we reached the enemy airfield there was no targets to bomb. Only two AA MG`s and one AA gun. My wingmen were just flying circles and doing nothing but I bombed and strafed those AA guns. I destroyed them but the mission did not complete, the red marker on the map stayed. Is there something else what needs to be done or some kind of time limit after the mission will proceed? 1
Cybermat47 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Noticed something odd on an "attack assaulting enemy troops" mission. The German defence consisted only of artillery, with their right sides presented to the enemy, not firing back at all. Were they meant to be AT guns, MGs, or Panzers? Also, the Soviets had the same sort of thing on the other side of the battlefield - artillery, their sides presented to the Germans, not doing anything. Other than that, it was a fun mission - the T-34s were using the woods for cover, and we couldn't see them. Never had a mission like it before, but it wouldn't surprise me if real pilots had to deal with similar stuff near Moscow.

Damnit .... i deleted al the mission logs and campaign files after. What i remember is that it had created 42 mission log files. I dont know if thats normal..... For what its worth i choose to be a : German campaign Attack BF-110 pilot start date untouched Unit untouched Advanced options i made airstart 1 The mission was to engage ground troops. A flight of 2 BF-110's escorted by 4 BF-109F We got engaged by either Lagg-3's or Mig-3's i cant remember. Either way the BF-109's downed one and i downed the other. After that i continued towards the engagement area. There were 2x manned AAA static machineguns. I took one of em out. 3 rows of 6 trucks per row so 18 in total of wich i destroyed about 6. 3 rows of 6 heavy artillery pieces of wich i took out 2. Then i was almost dry and RTB. Landed and ended the mission. Debrief gave the error i posted when reporting my claim. Edited September 13, 2016 by Mainstay

Working on adding stuff to BoS airfields now. I did not do it for 2.0 because it is surprisingly hard to do. Doesn't seem like it should be, but a lot goes into it and BoS and RoF are completely different in this respect. Not sure about the attack area not going away. It's not conditional. It's on a timer. Time runs out it should go away. I'll look at that. @Mainstay: I'm not sure what I can do about your specific problem as it is, to my knowledge, a one off occurrence. What I am doing is a general solution. I want to automatically bundle and zip up the relevant files when something like this happens. This way i don't have to ask and there is no chance of users forgetting and overwriting or deleting files. If I automatically zip them up I can put up a popup that says "post this file". That too is not a trivial feature so it may take awhile to put together.

Would imagine they have some kind of solution for that problem. About the timer, maybe I just did not wait long enough. I circled for a some time but maybe it was not enough.
PatrickAWlson Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 I'm sure that they do, but my stuff is Java and theirs is C++. I imagine the algorithm will be similar ... identify aircraft revetments and add a static plane. identify other "containers" and add other static stuff. My algorithm for RoF is significantly different. Airfields are not a collection of free items. They are complete. That means for each airfield pattern I map empty spots. For BoS i have to search for blocks within a certain radius of the field, identify candidates, and place static objects in them. Getting more sophisticated would be to map all of the objects, mat the runway, and any place not occupied would be a good place for a static object. Attack area timer is either 3 or 5 minutes.
Taxman Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Bug found: upon finishing a combat report, I was not credited with a finished mission. I have the same problem. The combat report shows a completed mission, however when I look at the pilot list and look at my pilot it shows 0 missions but all kills are shown even thou I have completed 3 missions. When I get home tonight I will re download ver 2, and reinstall. Will see if that corrects the issue.
Cathaoir Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Hi Pat.....have the same but as Cybermat47....kills show up but no credit for the mission.....have been manually adding the missions.....As mostly a SP and followed your work with ROF you give life to the sim for people who prefer SP....have played MP....and got 2 kills...
PatrickAWlson Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 Looks like I introduced a bug. Probably something stupid. I should have a fix out this weekend. As you have noted, it's just a number in the campaign file so you can set it manually until I get the fix in.

Thanks The campaign file is plain text and can be edited with Notepad. Each pilot has a data section that includes missions flown. Missions = 28; where 28 is the number of missions. You can change it to whatever you want. Just make sure that the format stays the same: a space before and after the equal sign so it is " = " and a semicolon after the value.
