Templer Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) VSync or FPS limiter? Both limit the FPS to the refresh rate of my monitor (60 Hz). So, what option should I choose now? To my understanding, the result is the same, just max. 60 FPS. Edited August 6, 2016 by Templer
GridiroN Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) Both options create input lag. Not that that's particularly important in a game like this, but never the less. Getting a 144hz Gsync was totally worth it for this game; the screen tearing from the propellors and looking around your cabin fast is crazy. Edited August 6, 2016 by GridiroN
Dakpilot Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Run in windowed mode (de-select full screen) turn V sync off and use 80fps limiter in game You should get no screen tearing and GPU, will not runaway at max, but has small headroom over monitor refresh rate (if 60Hz) In windowed mode, built in Windows V-sync should take care of screen tearing and this theoretically "should" result in smallest input lag, best performance Note. you must be using the same resolution as desktop In Nvidia CP setting texture filtering quality to "performance" seems to help with FPS a little with no discernible drop in image quality Cheers Dakpilot
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) In windowed mode i notice fps drops i do not recomendet it , i speak for myself. But i'm sure about it. Tearing will be gone only when fps match moniotr hz. I have 60+ fps in game but my monitor refreshs at 120 hz - and tearing is visible in some occasions. Some solution will be g-sync , free sync monitor and god pc which would not drop fps below 30. Edited August 11, 2016 by 307_Tomcat
Dakpilot Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Maybe it is hardware related, but I get better FPS with windowed mode And with 60Hz monitor no frame tearing at all at any FPS, not sure how built in windows Vsync operates with 120Hz Cheers Dakpilot
Matt Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Both options create input lag. The ingame FPS limiter doesn't create input lag. In any case, if you don't want to use Vsync and want to have as little screen tearing and judder as possible, limit the FPS to the setting that's lower than your lowest usual framerate you're getting in BoS (but in no case the refresh rate of your monitor, because that would increase the possibility of screen tearing). Unfortunately, the ingame FPS limiter can only be set to the fixed settings, instead of allow values like "59" for instance (or maybe that works via the .cfg file?). If you're using Vsync, there's no real reason to use the FPS limiter, unless you want a steadier framerate (at the cost of some maximum FPS), in which case you should also sent it to the setting that's lower than your usual minimum FPS (and not your monitors refresh rate). I'm personally using a 60 hz monitor and only use the FPS limiter set to 50 FPS and i get almost no screen tearing at all, (basically) no input lag and very smooth visuals.
