Thought this poll might give the devs a idea of how we play our flight sims.

You missed 1 Vs 1 duels. A lot of people just do that.

Wouldn't that be under COOP Uther?

No, a coop to me is an online war scenario.

A COOP can be any mission type...for this poll a COOP is just that...a single online mission of any type, number of planes or target....ok?

If it's a very good online dogfight server such as Warbirds Of Prey with their many choices of IL-2 COD, Spits VS 109s HSFX, Spits VS 109s mod UP, Zekes VS Wildcats or Spits VS 109s Classic there is really no contest for anything else. Each server has a myriad of missions to the liking of everyones planeset with missions made by mission builders who know their stuff and each one is in the full real setting. Friday nights are bomber nights. Back in IL-2's hayday it was a blast friday nights  :)

Airforce War. il2 war. VEF etc. Anything like that. No need for pretend coops where people can jump in any time.

Posted

Co-ops and online co-op wars like seows, plus a little 1 v 1 dueling and some air racing.

Some of us also still hold out for a decent offline experience with an SDK allowing us to modify our own games to our hearts content.

Whoa! Voted COOP's and by some miracle I'm in majority!

Yep, i hope we get a easy to use COOP system with a proper GUI. Il2's was great.

What do you mean by co-ops?

Generally I get on line for an hour at most at various times.

I generally log on get onto Teamspeak as see who is there and then attach my self to the a group of players and try to fit in to the mission goals.

I need the flexibility to vary the time that I log on and be able to join a mission that is already in progress.

I think there should be a "Online Mission' option for guys like me. Co-operation for me is that everyone on the mission reads the briefing and works towards the objectives.

Hmm hard to choose, during my flying time with IL2 I was a lot on the "War birds of prey" server, which had defined missions that had to be achived to win a map.

Althought there where every now and then some fur ballers, as a bomber pilot, didn?

I'm actually quite surprised to see such specific votes, thought the mix would be fairly popular.

Online war sorties (online coops) 90% of the time.

I like to fly against human pilots.

1) Online campaign "with a persistent world. "

2) Online DF server are good ( "I like close air support missions"  ) I like fighter bombers   B)

3) Online COOP's ( Like IL2 1946... is the basis to do training missions with " Squadron/Friends " )

When i think of a COOP, i think IL2.

User made single missions that people join at the start and fill the plane slots for that mission, it can be anything that the mission designer wants...anything from large misions used in online wars like VEF, to short 1 on 1 fights, and anything in between.

COOP's come into their own for squad training, allowing quick set ups of specific moments in what would other wise be a long flight or take a long while to set up in real time.

One of the best COOP's we used to fly was the famous air raid in Norway to attack the heavy water factory...great fun.

I thought of something to add and it's the only thing that will win over Spits VS 109s and that is an Online War Server in the Mediterranean - North Africa like they had in the IL-2 War in 2008. That was fun. Every day I was on that thing.           http://www.il2war.com/oldstats/africa41.htm

Ah yes, the Mosquito raid - played it a few times on the Ubizoo Saturday COOPs. Magnificent.

If BoS can do COOPs like '46 did, I'll be happy indeed.

1.) offline campaigns

2.) offline single missions

No longer care about online. Too much ego-contests and e-sports, too little history.

I mainly flew the full switch dogfight servers in IL2. Spits vs 109s, Zeke vs Wildcat. Those were awesome.

But when I was flying with a squad I would have to say the most fun and immersive for me were the online campaigns like Airforce War and IL2 Wars in Hyperlobby. The fronts actually moved, you could capture sectors by destrying a certain amount of tanks. You only had one pilot life per mission so everyone flew smart and careful. You could rescue downed pilots and planes by landing next to them so teamplay was a huge part of the gameplay. If BoS is capable of creating servers like this I think it will be just fine.

I voted "Online campaign" as in online war

A moving dogfight server mode wouldnt be bad either, maybe ???

I voted for offline campaigns but what I really want is an offline career system sort of like ROF but more robust with more action in the skies. Not scripted/static campaigns....more of the dynamic flavor.

I like them all..  I still fly QMs every day..  but I like Coops most. The MDS in IL2 is IMO an ideal that if possible would set this sim heads and shoulders above anything else out there. I hope that the devs have that in their sights even t it is not upon release because that would be absoluetly great.. It could be like a two way Coop.. one with a locked door and one with an open door.. With the open door you can go in and out at any time but the locked door is like what we have in IL2.  Hmmm maybe I need to suggest this in the DD..

Coop... and one with an open door...

If I remember correctly, resquest for "open door" COOP in Ubi Forum (UbiZOO) was what led to non inclusion of IL-2 1946 COOP style in CloD...

Same thing with ability to "take any plane at any moment", that now cause problems with unfair players in multiplayer (in CloD).

I hit all three online choices.

For me, combat flight simulation just does not work offline.  My virtual comabt flying for the past 10+ years has always been with and against other human beings.  It just seems the only way to do it.

I've tried offline many times.  Helped to beta test one of the better offline campaigns as well, but no matter how good the scenario, and how meticulous the builder was, it always felt, well, lacking.

It's mostly the AI's fault, and not just their ability, or lack there of.  Human opponents are spontaneous and impossible to predict.  AI's, no matter how good, are just too mechanical.  You know what you are up against with AIs.  With people at the controls you never know if you are going up against a 10 hour tail end Charlie, or the reincarnation of Saburo Sakai.  When I'm flying a bomber even, the wonder of what they will do after you have destroyed their little piece of real estate just heightens the entire experience.

And that Gents is why I keep doing this.

If I had to flight AIs only all the time I would have quit flight simming long ago.

Too bad because it is a great feature.. and none of the sims I have ebver used had it.. Zuti's MDS was the closest we got to it but that was the thing that showed us that it was doable.

Trying new options is always good, just as long as they keep the one that we know works as well.

For me a thoroughly historical perspective on combat flight sims doesn't work online. Why? Because, regardless how unpredictable players are inside the cockpit, they're utterly predictable they're out of it: 90% take fighters, 80% of which merely have it out among themselves without regard to mission goals or situations. Bombers are being flown by such a small minority that they're not even amounting to 1% of the whole and don't get me started on the fighter-bomber vs Stuka/ground-attack rate.

Sadly online is for the most part merely a glorified "2 Knights on the field of honor" thingy, almost comparable to some e-sports tournament.

I have the very same experience well described by csThor, too many MP sessions "destroyed" by all kind of off-mission-objective behaviour. Not that I dislike free roaming moves but please, after primary target has been hit.

Sadly, even in ArmA as in Falcon4/Dover/46 I get this feeling I have better coop/support by AI than online players. Well, some days at least :)

Posted

CsThor, the closest i got to what you want is when i used to fly VEF missions all those years ago.

I still think COOP's with like minded people is best we can get.

I have indeed! Pat's done some great stuff and you can get a good amount of activity going. The problem is it takes sooooooooooooo f'ing long to get to target/patrol area! Even at 16X compression it still an eternity. I know I can shorten this by doing air starts but I still want to maintain take off and landing realism. 777's career mode seems it get's you to the action quicker....but with less going on. Optimum would be Pat's activity...with 777's distances. One plus I really like about Pat's generator...I can play my offline campaign...offline. Huge plus for me not to have to rely on my ISP to play my singleplayer stuff.
