Did I mention...

I did the upgrade last week while the free offer was still on.

Everything works as before, the only thing I had to do was turn the volume back up on the audio settings as it reset to zero.

Most painless OS change I've ever made.   Compared to Win 7 Pro that I was using, 10 Pro loads faster, and it seems to be boosting frame rates on my games, at least the one I bothered to benchmark so far.  Getting 170 fps in Assetto Corsa

in the cockpit while racing online.   But every other game loads up faster and plays very smoothly indeed.

So far I see no downsides at all.

Just had 2 custom PC's built, one for me and one for my son, both windows 10, both run completely fine. Also upgraded to windows 10 for my laptop whilst it's free, starts faster, runs faster, did I mention it was free................get it!

Have to agree with beepee. Privacy died before win10 came along. And not to forget this in some ways (far from all) is a good thing. If for example law enforcement, wants to access my emails or put up cctv in my neighborhood be my guest. I don't have anything to hide. And don't mind getting rid of those that do. If I was living in china though, I'd have a very different view on things.

Your words contradict themselves all in the same statement.

`I don't have anything to hide. And don't mind getting rid of those that do.`

sigh... that`s not what it`s about. It`s about your information being used without your say so and even being used against you. just think rather than say the same tired lines.

Oh, you`d be worred if you were in china, but not here. Why? The western powers are not so disimilar to other powers, they`re just more subtle about it. Haven`t you noticed how the West has been cosying up to China recently? You can`t be this naive.

...that I hate computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Complete hard drive meltdown tonight. That's one way to force me to Windows 10.

Uuuuughhghgg....

Jason

Your heart just sinks when you go to turn your computer on and nothing happens.

I had that happen I fried my motherboard video card and sound card when I left the computer on in a thunder storm.

Here is the sad part the second time it happened I decided to get a battery backup for the machine.

Really trying but not seeing your point of view.

No I don't fear information I have being used against me. If someone stole my creditcard number and used it. Information would help set things right. If my car was uploading info on my speeding, yes I'd get a ticket. But in a bigger picture would that not also help save lives? If someone got a hold of my stash of nude selfies, enjoy. Though that would be illegal to spread and chances of the culprit getting caught would be better.

That's right, If I lived in a society where opinions were controlled, freedom of speech was infringed on: Then, I'd be very worried about transparent information.

Probably not, sadly.  Look up "BadUSB".

I know of this. Not a problem on my side. I am far more concerned with the ever more sophisticated trojans and the like that get through via wire and wireless. I am shocked that people routinely stay online for hours even when they don`t need to and games that force you online just to play them when they`re not multiplayer (this further increases risk). The more you are online, the greater the risk- always. There`s a reason why almost everything tries to make people addicted to being online- and they`re succeeding sadly.

Also you need to explain your worries about WinsX more. You seem to complain a lot, but when asked to provide info you suddenly get quiet.

Not that i doubt you, I do know of many of the pitfalls. However, make your case if you wish to convince others, don`t just tell them off.

Been there... :o:  done that!

I got to reconnect 1-2 USB devices after every start, until all are recognized and work ok. I did expect that Win 10 would improve the USB handling, but it did get worse (no change of devices).

This thread is turning in to a tinfoil hat thread - further and further away from being relevant to IL-2.  ;)

It's not tinfoil hat paranoia.  The spyware built in to Windows 10 is documented and widely reported.

Uh, okay? Link to an example of this?

My case for what? That Windows has spyware built in? I honestly have no idea what you're getting at. Go read any of a hundred different news outlets. This isn't a debate, these are facts. Windows spies on you.

For those with HD failure or bad harddrives you should try spinrite https://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm before you throw it way, upgrade to win10 or send it off for data recover.  I have no first hand experience using it (thank God) but have been a follower of Steve's security podcast for years.

Paranoia is when you are so afraid or anxious that you become delusional and/or irrational.

I can totally see how not buying an operating system that calls home to Microsoft with your personal data is delusional and irrational

Present the facts at least to a level that others might be interested enough to go take a look. People won`t bother otherwise and you`re wasting your time.

And if this how abrasive you get when someone tries to give you constructive advice, then you`ve lost the crowd already.
