Cybermat47 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) I don't usually shoot people in chutes, and I only do it if they're paratroopers. Why? Not only is it inhumane to do it to an unarmed person in real life (and therefore somewhat off putting to do it in a game I play for fun), but while I'm shooting the poor bastard, an enemy fighter could put an end to me just like that. I'd rather be shooting down another enemy plane than killing someone I've already defeated. Edited November 24, 2013 by Cybermat47
71st_AH_Hooves Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 If the dude has bailed out already and I have the "kill", shooting him in his chute is kinda pointless and takes ammo, I mean, hes coming back, you didnt lessen the amount of pilots in the server. unless you are in a DiD campaign, but lets be honest, that MIGHT account for %.001 of your playing time.

I disagree. You forget the following ranting on chat... it could be funny. Anyway I'm not used to do it except if the victim is not one of my closer friends (so I can mock him on TS). It isn't about making points. It's about basic human psychology, especially when it comes to online gaming. It's almost the equivalent to teabagging in other games. Why do people do that? Because it's a cocktail of establishing dominance, it's about humiliation and it's about psyching your opponent. That is exactly what you see in games like this, toying with damaged and injured opponents, shooting them while they are dangling from a chute and even doing gun runs when they are on the ground. Perhaps even doing strafing runs as the pilot hits the ground in aforementioned chute. That is also the reason why it's such a hotly debated topic because you see a lot of older guys, guys from a different era of online gaming or perhaps just 'regular joes' that enjoy the occasional simulation game. They aren't used to this behaviour or mentality plus you can see how much it frustrates a lot of people, because there is a shed of humiliation in some of these actions, like salt in the wound. I've played games competitively for years and none of this stuff bothers me, not even remotely. Being shot while dangling in a parachute is water next to some of the stuff I've experienced online. It's all laugh and giggles, it's a game. 2
Zoring Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) And you also find pilots that disagreed with him. There's a story about Hartmann dangling in his parachute, and some P-51 pilot flies by to take a photo and wave at him. I guess it's up to each and one of us if we want to role-play that kind of pilot. And Hagar's question is relevant: are there historical examples of "knights in the skies" on the East front, is there any historical reason for roleplaying a gentleman pilot? That seems incredibly unlikely since he only fought on the Russian front and was never shot down or bailed out. In my experience it's only the poorer pilots who end up shooting parachutes, or chasing a crippled machine into the the smarter ones are usually more concerned about saving their ammunition for their next kill, and not losing all their energy for the sake of what is already a victory. II./JG27_Rich Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Killing guys in their 'chutes will be fun. Until it's you with a multi-week/month persona with lots of kills and baubles and somebody does it to you. Never could do it
FuriousMeow Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 This is not war. It's a game, a simulation, something to be fun. This is not war, and never will be war. War is a lot of things that this will never be. Have fun, but war or anything of that nature - this is not. We have a respawn button. 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 25, 2013 1CGS Posted November 25, 2013 3 pages and counting. Just about what I thought.
Sethos Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 3 pages and counting. Just about what I thought. There's no need for that. 1

LastRightsXIII Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I had to look it up what that abbreviation means. I suppose it is #1 and not #3. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=IBTL Thats flippin' funny
71st_AH_Hooves Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Just make it the rule that to get the kill you HAVE to shoot the chute. Then this is all a moot point.
senseispcc Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Every one is forgeting this is a GAME or is it not and you still think that the other guy is a bad guy how must die even in a symbolic way ? Making other die is just fun ? Or is being the best flier and getting him out of the sky just enough ? Or because he is the symbol of the 'commie' or the ' fa....' or the 'red' against the 'blue' or like they say now days orange against blue ? Is it hate ?
FuriousMeow Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 And now we've gone off the rails on a crazy train.
FlatSpinMan Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 So, in conclusion, some people think it's okay, some don't, some don't really care either way. It does seem few people believe the theatre being simulated makes a difference.
