Developer Diary, Part 129 - Discussion

With no air conditioning in my apartment I can simulate overheated cockpit of La-5 quite well during these tropical summer days. Add to it chilly con carne for dinner and simulation of exhaust fumes is perfect :D

That's the mark of a true simulation pilot right there! :D

I know, mine was more of a wish... I am of the opinion that a brand new theatre would be very compensating for producers. Just like the Eastern front was when the original Il-2 came out...

Got it :D I would agree although I'd like to see the east front lineup filled out with at least something from 1943 before we take a break. That may mostly be because I'm missing the IL-2M with the factory installed gunner station. Those versions are the definitive IL-2 variants in my mind and I'd love to have them.

And then I would like Normandy or North Africa or something :) Mostly because those aircraft sets would be so much fun.

I guess we'll see what the devs come up with!

Hi guys. On the Russian forum, most people think that ju-52 and yak-1b will be available as dlc. But the developers have always said that for them the priority of the new theater. Have you some information about it? What says Jason?

I personally hope to make them DLC and free up to more slots for a theater. But I have not spoken at length with them about this because we have not decided on a theater yet. That's part of my upcoming visit.

So, if I read the last couple of posts everyone agrees that this is is not a flight simulator but a game like Call of Duty. It would have been good if the developers have said this from the very beginning!

Where in the world did you get such a nonsense idea like that from?

Just because there is DLC?

Very thoughtful and deep analysis.

Having the Ju-52 and Yak-1B as singe planes or complete DLC would be nice. More standalone planes are always welcomed!

I just hope the next theater could be France, Norway or Crete and take use of the Ju-52 and hopefully see paratroopers  :)

Personally I'd preferrr both to become single aircraft DLCs similar to the prmium ones but I'll respect any of the dev's decisions regardless.

There is no discussion if this is a game. Just try it once and right thereafter DCS and you know the diffrence of a GAME to a SIM:P

I fly both and I'm not picking up what you're putting down... Clickpits don't make something a simulator in and of themselves.

I have both games and I don't see it either. In Il2 BOS/BOM you really have the feeling of being in Russia duing world war 2. Thats the best simulation you can get in my opinion. It feels like your are there. Ground simulating and taxiing has never been simulated better in any flight sim either in my opinion, and flight models and damage models are outstanding. Good job again team with the game.

I agree! DCS simulate each aircraft a lot better than IL-2 with more detail however IL-2 gives a much better feeling of the environment and such so it feels more realistic overall in IL-2 however just judging the aircraft apart, DCS is more realistic but to be honest the clickpits doesnt really do much when you are in a dogfights and especially in WW2 planes without detailed systems like radar and so on...

I hope we can see improveness on environment too like clouds at different altitudes and hight altitudes not like allways at 1000m.

Better sensation with the rain in the cristal and hitting in the wings with the sound etc.

We desperately need object draw distance increase with added enhanced visibility of ground object - those are issues for fighters and bombers/ attack planes. Fix those then think about DLCs.

To solve those issues we probably have to wait for Dx11 implementation (which the devs are currently working on) and graphical optimisation which is going to take a few months. If I understand it correctly, the DLC is meant to help financing that big undertaking whihc will delay the develoment of another expansion for some time.

Wow awesome! I hope we get the Fw-190A-5 and the Bf-110G-2 as well!

No pls no another Fw 190! We have one " Fw 190 "  and my heart is still suffering.

I don't think that people are going to feel competitive until online servers reflect this and the community accepts their role as part of a bigger picture.  I know that several servers are trying.  Give the Russians more spots.  Make win/loss about ground based tactical losses.  Then the Russians not only have a chance but an actual advantage.  They're still going to lose more planes but they will probably win the contest.  The fun on the Russian side comes from being part of the winning team and not necessarily from being the star performer.

If that is not acceptable I'm not sure what the developers could do.  They're damned if the make the plane set non-historically even and they are damned if the make the plane set historically uneven.

I wonder if this is where PvE/Co-op could come in. The AI isn't going to complain about losing so you could have historically accurate scenarios. Of course it's not without its issues because programming a competent AI isn't easy. I'm just looking at what some people are doing in likes of Arma 3 and wondering what could be. The unknown for me is how may players want historical, how many want competitive (evenly matched PvP) and how many want both?

This is where joining an online squadron can help. Certainly, it's what my squadron does, and has always done, through IL2 '46, RoF, CloD and BoS.  It's not a new idea.

(The AI in BoS [as in every sim] has "limitations", one or two of them quite serious - one of which seems an identifiable bug. But these can be effectively disguised or worked around through good mission design.)

Reporting Feedback: Based on the very recent Windows 10 64bit update, BoS/Bom.

All is launching, working very well, (from this machine). Bos/Bom even seems to launch/run quicker than before? Rule of thumb: Update, clean up, (no issues doing this to date, touch wood).

Have a good weekend all :)

S!

As an addendum:

I sat two real world pilots down at a BBQ last summer to play a Quick Mission 1v1 - 109F vs Yak. Both pilots are over 12,000 hours in civil aviation. It was a clown show and no disrepect to them. Using TrakIR was completely foreign, there is no seat of the pants feel, and no familiarity with the systems. Simple flight was good but my daughter can do that. Air combat ended quickly in a stall fest. Ground attack was a series of misses and lawndarts. Again, my seven year old can line up a truck with a little help. One got the AC on the ground after some nice pattern work and the other stacked it up on the nose and mains.

I have hundreds of hours with both pilots and the utmost respect for their real world skills. Both are infinitely better pilots than I am where it counts for something.

On their second flights the combat aspect was not much better but both shot decent landings.

So, as much as we try to simulate the real world, and I think this sim is doing a pretty good job with improvements on the way, it is not real world. You can take your real world results but they will not transfer 1 to 1 in a sim, ever.

The AC are good, the game is good and it is constantly being improved. There is no substitute for; fly your AC to their strengths and you will find success. Unfortunately, for the German pilot, this is true for the virtual Soviet pilot who does not have to work with nearly as many constraints as his real world counterparts did as well.

I agree with you in that PC Flight Simulators can only go so far towards realism. It's not just sight and sound but feel. An aircraft lets you know if it's stressed or if something has changed. Not just in instrumentation but in sound and feel. You feel it in your body as it creaks, strains, and try's to comply to your controls. I guess this is sort of what they tried to do with force feedback. But that seems to be old news now.

You crazy guys actually went ahead and did it: fantastic to see the Ju-52 cockpit! - And from now on surely nobody can say that you don't listen to the community (even though you have abundantly proved that all through the development of this sim).

I personally think the smoke looks too thick, but that is a question of taste.

Magnificent dev. update!

 -> Hey you forgot one important point they said many times No No and No or it is impossible. How many times we heared the No part or the impossible part? A No that means Yes or impossible means it is possible. If that's not confusing? :o:

Ha! This reminds me of that old 'saw' - The aggrieved parishoner exclaims, "God never answers my prayers." To which the wise old priest says, "Maybe he does. It's just that the answer's no!"

Can't wait for new aircraft... So many aircraft other than the 109 and Yak available....  Looking forward to the future and new airframes.

Paratrooper options with the JU-52? Would be cool if we could do some, "Airfield Captures" vai the Paratroopers in multi-player =)

BoM released on Steam now. Funny Steam says this is just a Downloadable Content where you need BoS to play it!

Has a CGI trailer nice to watch http://store.steampowered.com/app/502870/

That sucks. I hope they fix it soon. We dont need more barriers to get new players.

Calm down guys, I'm sure they'll fix it

I just hope we can have the Steam code for BOM too, I got the BOM from a friend and I would like to have the planes from BOM and STEAM is the only option for me.

Or having all the preimun aircraft as DLC if you have one of the theaters.
