migmadmarine Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 For a year or so now, my rudder inputs would occasionally get inconsistent to the right intermittently, but the pedals would auto calibrate this out after a few minutes. Lately though, they have given me only half of my input to the right consistently, as well as unwanted inputs (jittering full on and off in either direction, but again mostly when putting in right rudder). I've opened them up a few times, wiggled the plugs and sprayed contact cleaner and dusting air into them, as this remarkably has helped before with throttle issues, but to no lasting result. Think the potentiometer might be going bad? Is there anything I can do to fix this, or somthing else to try? Should I just get new pedals, as much as I dread this? (I'm in college, so it's quite a pricey investment, and can I be sure that other pedals will work with the stick and throttle I've got?)
Sokol1 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Try press this tabs over pot' connectors, can be loose and with bad contact. http://i.imgur.com/9KILvIl.jpg And spray contact cleaner inside pot case to clean their trail, through this hole in the case that you see above connectors: http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc363/ArJay83/G940/rudderpot2.jpg If you have DIY skill and tools, can replace the potentiometer easily, but the issue is that "joystick potentiometer" have electrical travel in only 30~60 degrees and not the 270 degrees or more of common commercial pot's, and is sold only for joystick industry... migmadmarine Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 Regarding the attachment between the tabs an the pot, press them how so? Already wiggled them on their mounts, but do you suggest removing them for cleaning, or trying to tighten them onto the pot with a pair of pliers (pinch them top to bottom, noticed they were a bit loose, perhaps this would make the connection better?)
Sokol1 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) For spray cleanup inside the pot the ideal is remove then from the place, before press the tabs, but try spray without do this if are unsure. See how the guy press the tabs in the final part of this video: Or if you are used to make solder, can apply over the contacts (make difficult remove later, in the - improbable, as explained above - case of pot' replacement). VR-DriftaholiC Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) I needed to bend the spades to make a more solid connection. This is a problem throughout the g940's construction. Edited July 28, 2016 by driftaholic
Venturi Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Just buy a cheapo soldering iron and fix the problem permanently. It is a easy fix and the skills will stand you in good stead in the future.
