Adj Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I am singleplayer user of this game and have enjoyed and supported it from my time of purchase. If my flying ability was of a good standard I would no doubt be playing online. In the new campaign mode I have been promoted to Hauptmann and the missions have become more difficult: I already found them difficult. Now I can only complete about one in ten missions. This is very frustrating and personally adds nothing to the game. If I wanted more difficulty I would play at expert settings, but accept that, I wouldn't enjoy all the inevitable failures that would ensue. I'm not worried by awards or stats I just enjoy playing the game. I appreciate there are other people that like the new challenges, but wonder if there is a way where all abilities can be accommodated in the campaign, or am I now relegated to the quick missions.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Hi Adj. Yes I agree, my bitch is that in the campaign mode flying any aircraft is hard work, the physics are such, that the plane is hard to control, the slightest move with the joystick and your gun sight is all over the bleeding place. And this is all because you can not choose in realism the option to custom your aircraft while flying the campaigns, and by realism i don't mean things like invulnerability/unlimited ammo and fuel i just need to be able to apply the mode of simplified physics so i can fly the plane with ease and smoothness and be able to hold my sights on a target for long enough to have some chance hitting the damn thing !! After all, i'm only playing against AI opponents not human pilots ? And because of this i have a tendency not to fly campaigns as much as i should, so really i am confined to either Quick Missions or third party mission downloads, i know that this my choice, but i feel that I am missing out on a substantial amount of missions. Cheers
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Thanks Chief. That is very useful and extensive information, but its the stability factor that bothers me most, i have mentioned this before in a past post, and have got replies saying that " there's nothing wrong with the aircraft in campaigns " Well i beg to differ, I have a good stick [Thrustmaster 16000] and i definitely don't have the shakes ! so is there someone out there who will agree with me on this point. Cheers

Cheers There's no difference between the aircraft in a QMB and one in a Campaign mission. Work on your stick sensitivity until you find a good spot? I do find that wind and turbulence (something that some folks never use in the QMB) do make flying quite a bit more challenging. If you only fly QMB with calm or no winds and no turbulence ever then it doesn't help all that much when you do get into a tricky position. Trying to get a bead on a Ju88 flying high near Moscow with 14m/s cross breeze can be very interesting.
=EXPEND=Capt_Yorkshire Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Try the online servers mate its loads of fun, you don't have to be a good pilot and its where this sim really shines.

Thanks Shamrock, I turned up both turbulence and wind to max and yes the aircraft was unstable, perhaps not as bad as in Campaign , but i still had to work a bit harder to hit a moving ground target

Cheers Try to reduce your stick's sensitivity. Like, really reduce it. IIRC, the game's set-up way too sensitive out of the box (at least for my taste). What kind of stick are you using? I couldn't imagine flying this sim (or any sim, really) without some sort of centering force on my stick (in my case, my Sidewinder's FF-motors that are emulating self-centering spring force). I'd probably hit even less than I do now if I had to use one of those floppy Saiteks or a CH Fighter Stick. If you're using an FF-stick, try disabling FF to get the generic centering spring force all the time (at least that's how it works on my Sidewinder). Yes: You won't have the "stick gets light"-feedback when approaching a stall, but I find it easier to fly this way. You should also just practice and get a feel for the sim. Every sim is different and takes some getting-used to when you first start in it. And generally speaking: It takes a lot of people quite a bit of time to develop a "steady hand on the stick" and to avoid over-correcting. For example: I'm teaching a squad-mate of mine to fly (in another sim) and he still can't pull the trigger without producing unwanted stick-input. Only cure for this that I'm aware of is practice, practice, practice. That said: BoS *is* pretty demanding in that regard, no doubt. But I wouldn't recommend using simple physics, because that way, you'll miss an essential part of the game (just my opinion, if you prefer simple physics, more power to you.. :D). S.
Adj Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 Hi, Thanks to all for your advice. I will try to persevere with the campaign, as for me there is no other flight sim that I would rather play.
pilotpierre Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 (edited) Hi, Thanks to all for your advice. I will try to persevere with the campaign, as for me there is no other flight sim that I would rather play. Hi Adj, I agree with your OP. I am at PL 14 and flying my mission choices of Ground Attack and Support Missions it is bloody frustrating trying to actually complete a mission even when flying as per Chiefs recommendations. Why the devs persevere with the *^%#}€£ pilot level crap is beyond me, it completely buggers up immersion for me. Have you tried Pat Wilsons Campaign Generater? Very immersive and no pilot level to worry abour and you can choose your own rank. Edited July 18, 2016 by pilotpierre
