Sketch Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) NSFW: LanguageI think some new players (from the recent Steam sale) were asking for dogfighting tips for defeating German players. I am no expert (see my other videos to get an idea of my abilities), but hopefully this video will enlighten newer players. I personally believe that the key to winning a dogfight is masking your mistakes with teammates. With that said, here is a video of me dogfighting with teammates. Enjoy!------ Our task was to finish destroying the artillery position near the front line. I was lead, and my wingman was Sky Vi. As usual, we were flying in IL-2 1942s. We drop our bombs on target, and begin looking for the final ground targets when Sky Vi gets bounced by a BF109. He had a lot of wing damage after the 109's first pass, and was unable to maneuver well. I put my engine into combat mode, and hustled to assist Sky. As the 109 continued his attack on Sky Vi; I did get some shots into the 109, but nothing critical. Eventually, Sky gets shot down, and the 109 presses his attack on me. I begin running home while dodging his attacks. My engine's water was boiling at this point and was slowly starting to damage itself. Reinforcements were on the way, but not before I had engine failure and had to set the plane down. Luckily, I made it back to friendly sides and walked back to base. In the beginning, I do what I can to help Sky, but his plane was not turning because of the initial damage of the 109's bounce. Moreover, the 109 pilot used his plane well. He kept me out of attack range by going vertical and then dived on Sky when he had the chance. Sky and I do get some shots into his plane, but nothing critical as we were running AP rounds for ground targets. Most likely the rounds went right through his plane's fabric instead of hitting home. After we make our attack, Sky gets shot down, and I begin to run for home. I also let reinforcements know my current location. They did know we were at the artillery objective, but not my exact location. As you can see, I do my best to keep track of the 109, and I'm performing a scissors maneuver as he keeps attacking me. When I was on the offensive, I don't always stay "nose on" (my targeting reticle on the enemy plane), instead I sort of guess where the enemy plane is going to be and set my plane's course to intersect that location. Hopefully, I'll score some hits, as I do in the video, when I intersect with the enemy. Even though I got shot down, the 109's pilot was not very good in my opinion. I believe this because he didn't use his planes advantages over mine, while he was fighting me. You'll even notice that I get behind him once or twice, and had there been a fighter escort in the area, the enemy 109 would have been easy pickings because of how slow and low he was. Lusekofte Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Most experienced 109 jockeys maneuver themselves out of a head on pass with a IL 2. and use their climb to avoid direct dogfighting . The 41 model however can surprise them. Because you can follow them a little longer and the salvo from a ilushin is devastating. Did not look at the video, because I am at a expensive internet, but enjoyed your story, many thanks
Monostripezebra Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 just take a 41 model at low weight.. it´s stalins best fighter. ;=) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMlUVifr30c
MK_RED13 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) Muheheheheeh.. excellent... Dr_Zeebra!!!! Is this IL2 using "MELDONIUM-BOOST" in this game? Thank you for your post! Ed. Edited July 16, 2016 by MK_RED13
Gump Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 yeah, chances are slim getting fighter support to respond that far south if they arent escorting you down to begin with. takes too long to get there to be of any good in an emergency.
