louiscar Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I just bought the game on GOG today. So as usual with most flight sims I need a free flight area to get into learning how to use this and so clicking on training mission was the obvious choice .. or so I thought. Manual says - Training: mission for beginners .. perfect. Sadly it just flys the plane for me giving me instructions. This isn't what I want surely? Is there no way to take control? Doesn't seem to be, I tried everything. Am I missing something?
LeRocket Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 i believe you're talking about il-2 1946, this forum is for the new release bos/bom. anyways, you can select quick mission then choose your plane how many wingmen, friendly flights and enemies you want.
louiscar Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 Sorry guys, I didn't know there was a 'new release' but you are perfectly right I bought the it was 1946. https://www.gog.com/game/il_2_sturmovik_1946 Is there a forum for this or is it considered dead?
ShamrockOneFive Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 There is still a forum here: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/forumdisplay.php?f=98 The latest patch release is 4.13.1 and there is still a semi-active effort to continue to develop for it. It's more dormant than it used to be but they did add some nice stuff over the years.
louiscar Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 Thanks I'll take a look at that. BOS/BOM looks good too so once I get used to this I'll probably be back. Still remember many happy hours dog fighting on MS CFS 1 and hoped I could re-experience some of that fun.
Dutchvdm Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Hi, If i where you i would just fly with the quick mission builder in combination with some youtube tutorials on your Ipad/tablet. The nice thing is that it aplys to all sims. Il2, old and new, DCS. Grt Martijn

Grt Martijn Thanks Martin, This is what I have been doing last night all a bit daunting as there are a lot of options, I couldn't get the HOTAS menu to accept buttons to allow trims etc so it's all a bit fiddly right now but the missions will probably get me up to speed.
Lusekofte Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I recommend this site for IL 2, it is basically where the most active IL 2 people are : http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php And here http://www.mission4today.com/index.php Stock game is interesting with the newest patches , but 4.12 with mods and better textures are best. So I recommend multiple installs and calmly and caution modding
seafireliv Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 You had me for a sec when you said GOG. I love GOG and would have bought this latest version of IL2 from there if they`d released it on that. But seeing how this one ties you online for the SP campaign, I can`t see them ever allowing it being released there.

I ended up trying that as the planes are all very twitchy and it seems to take nothing to set it spiraling down in an uncontrolled spin. Not quite what I was expecting but I've not found it to be too real at the moment. You had me for a sec when you said GOG. It was cheap enough and on my list of things to try but the other day it appeared on sale at £1.85. I couldn't refuse. :-)
