1Sascha Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 ...sadly, my in-game flight recorder didn't capture this one - even though I turned it on right when it happened. There I was, RTBing in my 111 after a successful drop on a supply dump in the offline campaign. Enemy fighters were around, but only one was close enough to be of any concern. Naturally, he latched on to me. No biggie ... I pushed the plane into a shallow dive and gave it a bit of rudder to start a bit of a slip to give my top gunner a better shot. Then I switched to external camera to watch what was going to happen next. Was I in for a surprise... The LaGG in question missed his firing pass for some reason and I think he then tried to pull up to climb away on my 6. Mid-maneuver he changed his mind and nosed over into a dive. He collided with my tail, but in such a way that his plane got stuck on my H-stab (his wingroot was "hooked" in there). My plane started to swerve around wildly (my V-stab had been cut off) but the Russian fighter (or what was left of him) was still attached to my tail. My plane went into a flat spin and the LaGG was swung around - it looked pretty much like an athlete twirling his hammer around before the throw. After one or two complete rotations, the Russian broke free and was literally "catapulted" off into the distance. I did push the record key as soon as the collision occurred and the "REC"-icon showed up (was a bit of a miracle that I managed to do that, since I was laughing my ass off at this point :D), but when I went into flight recordings to inspect the clip, it wasn't there. I suspect it was perhaps too short in duration for the game to actually "keep" it? Still: One of the funniest moments I ever experienced in any sim. I just wish I could've filmed it... S. 1
216th_Jordan Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) the track will be called 'aqm......' (abb. for "advanced quick mission" aka campaign) not skirmish (thats quick mission multiflight) or something. try looking for that it should be there. Definately want to see that Edited July 13, 2016 by 216th_Jordan
1Sascha Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 The good news is that I did manage to find the clip - naming system seems a bit weird, it was hiding somewhere in the middle of my tracks-list, even though it's the newest track I have ... The bad news is that even though I pushed the record-key when the fighter was still "stuck" on my tail, the clip starts at a point where the fighter was free of my Heinkel. So it basically just shows 20 seconds of my 111 plummeting towards the ground ... S.
Monostripezebra Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 the good thing about flight sims is that you can try again.. and again and again. Just go to quick missions and stick something else on a heinkel for the lulz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMxNiPg1kPU 1
1Sascha Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 ROFL! Poor man's Mistel? That's pretty much the speed at which the LaGG collided with my tail. Come to think of Stukas: I had a quick mission the other day where I attacked one of those large barges on the river. I messed up my firing pass (37mm cannon), collided, lost a bunch of parts but my wing- and tail-less Stuka came to a rest on the ship's huge deck and sat there as a blind passenger. My pilot was looking around quite happily as if nothing had happened.. :D
