GOA_Walter_Nowotny Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Hello to everyone: Greetings from Chile, I have a little inconvenient setting the trim (or adjust stabilizer, depending the aircraft). I am using one of the wheel of the rudder in my Saitek x45 to adjust in BF's 109. Works perfectly in this plane, a fine tunning and faster than using the hat button. But in other planes, such LA5 you cant use the wheel because you need to "trim" separately (+ and -). So you cant use the wheel. I know that are different thinks because in Bf109 you move all the stabilizer and in other planes you move a part of the stabilizer. But if you look in your cockpit, both procedures are with the same piece, a wheel. The FW is different, but the others no. I think that will be more convenient to adjust all with a wheel ( if you have a joystik that have), you can use more fast this instead press a key or using a hat. Is only my experience of use. The FW is different, so you let this appart. Best fly's to all! Juan Pablo Fach_Nowotny 1
Sokol1 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) 1st - BF 109 "Stabilizer Adjust" can be set in joystick analog axis (or key press, or joy buttons/HAT) - like you do in your X-45. 2nd - Is only plane in the game that allow use analog axis for trim, all other including his cousin Fw 190 need use keys or joy buttons. The logic behind this is not know, don't matter if the RL plane use a wheel (as in most planes of the game) or switch (Fw 190, Pe-2) for adjust trim. BTW - Easy solution: remove the ability to set trim in axis for bf 109, so all planes became equals. Some players already try use this a cheater by setting the "Stabilizer Adjust" in joystick Y axis (used for elevator) to improve plane turn ratio... Edited July 12, 2016 by Sokol1
VBF-12_Snake9 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Solution Fix the game the way it should be. Not remove more options.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 this makes the 109 not heavy at all on the controls at high speed Many times i'm surprised how 109 pilot can press his plane on the tight turn or go up from dive what would look like kiss the earth. Yak has it's flaps and 109 has this or it's look like that but rather just skilled pilots with little help or not (guess both) :-)
Monostripezebra Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Yak has it's flaps and 109 has this while the 109 stab is potentially more gamebreaking when exploited, the yak still has it´s energy retention and high speed maneuverability that are waay on the positive side ;=)
SYN_Mugue Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 +1 for putting the trims on axis, that should be on axis. But, in the mean time...I use a button box(Derek Speares Designs) that has rotary digital encoders that I map the trim to. It works great at giving the feeling of twisting knobs, like we should be. If you got the money and the space...I highly recommend. Or if you're handy with electronics you could make one.(I've read many fine posts by Sokol1 on the subject. )
TP_Silk Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 I've just mapped the vertical and roll trim / vertical stabiliser to Ctrl+Hat-switch up/down.left/right - makes it easy to reach and easy to remember. Also by using the Ctrl modifier button it means that I can keep quickviews if I want/need them. 1

Muhahahahaha!!!! Yes, let the flame war begin!!! But on a serious note, yes the 109 adjustable stabilizer is broken. Everyone knows it but nothing is being done about it. Maybe the VVS players ought to make a scene about it like the LW players did the Yak flaps? Also, the high speed complaint you mention Dr. Zebra, I believe that might be a subjective complaint. I know the Yak's high speed maneuverability is not better than the 109. The 109 can dive faster, climb higher, turn tighter, and burn energy just as good if not better than the Yak at high speed. Out of all of those, the only one the Yak should do better at is the turn at high speed. 109 is notorious for also getting heavy controls at high speed, never read or heard anything about that being the case with the Yak, although I may be wrong about that. Ok, so let's keep it kind of civil, but we all know the flame war has begun! FIGHT!
Dakpilot Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 FIGHT! Or rather take it to the FM discussion section Cheers Dakpilot
JG13_opcode Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) I'm just pointing out that "energy retention" is a nebulous term that is poorly defined. Aircraft performance is either sustained, which is to say that the aircraft can do it until it runs out of fuel, or it is instantaneous, which is to say that it cannot be sustained indefinitely. There won't be a flame war because it's not possible to produce historical "energy retention" data. There was a guy named Tagert on the old ubizoo who was setting up "energy retention" testing via a dive-zoom maneuver but there is no historical data to compare it with. SYN_Haashashin Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Muhahahahaha!!!! Yes, let the flame war begin!!! Flame war you say?? Sorry but that wont happen. Only that you know, offtopic posts can be deleted or moved, rule 15 (the rule is more severe since it says its prohibited). Also there is rule 18, FM discussions have to take place at the subforum for it so I will take Dakpilot advice and move to FM subforum if you want to disccuss FM related things. Ohh and Bearcat its not the only mod that can move/delete posts here. Edit: I will give it a thought but I think this topic should be at the manual, tutorial, guides and tips subforum and clean all off topic posts.
