LG1.Farber Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) Why is it that the best and most creative games come from the East and Russia? For content, for advanced thinking, for a million things you can do, for detail and intricacy, its always the Russian games. Men of War Series by 1c I just saw the trailer on Steam for Company of Heroes 2. I loved Company of Heroes and played it to death. However watching the trailer for CoH2 I could but not think of Men of War and saw allot of the "new features never done before in a RTS" where just... stuff already done in Men of War years ago... CoH is much less versatile, a squad is just a squad and I cannot merge broken down squads or add other elements to it. Its very restrictive but on the other hand in MoW I can do anything! I can take one guy from a squad and tell him to search a dead soldier, rearm, pick up a weapon - anything! T34 Vs Tiger This game died quite badly it was a mere ? DD_bongodriver Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I really liked Hidden and Dangerous 1 and 2, that was an eastern european dev team too I think?
Force10 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I was just playing MOW Assault squad last night...and also MOW Vietnam testing a dynamic campaign generator. Great games....the engine could really use some optimizing though, especially the jungle maps in Vietnam. Operation Flashpoint is top notch and I still have it installed and fire it up once a month or so to play the VTE mod. It's a shame Sion Lenton and Codemasters screwed the pooch on that series. An OFP game with no modding allowed??
LizLemon Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Pathologic, and everything else by Ice Pick Lodge.
=IRFC=Jorri Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Operation Flashpoint still beats anything that came after it.
AdlerAngriff Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 The thing is I love Russian games because of ambition and the attention to detail. It's just sad that some are still too buggy for comfort. I am really sad that Tiger vs T 34 got scuttled. I think Russia will make a nieche for itself as a precision sim game oriented country. Since the US and Most European markets are already overflown with fast paced shooters like CoD and BF and such. 1
Bearcat Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Someone posted in another thread that it was because engineers come cheap in the east..
boot_Hardy Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Everything comes cheap(er) in the east but it's not about that at all. It's the originality, creativity and different appoach to things. Someone posted in another thread that it was because engineers come cheap in the east..
Krupi Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Metro 2033 were both eastern games and personally I found them the best in there genre.. I really liked Hidden and Dangerous 1 and 2, that was an eastern european dev team too I think? Ah man that takes me back, great games!
Ribbs Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Ive been playing the MOW series ever since it all started back with soldiers Heroes of WWII . The game NEVER plays out the same. So much randomness , and you can literally do or destroy anything in the game. Amazing game! Highly recommended.
