Yes this short video gets my vote for the one that really shows the beauty of this sim. I wrote all of my non flier friends and said..."Isn't your face freezing" ? :) Minus the Bandicam and the hud and I'm  in 1942  I think it's got War Thunder beat all to pieces.

Agree. Beautiful plane, landscape and sim.

We're in for a great ride....

It does look nice, but that POV 'on rails' is uninspiring. I so hope they do something creative with the POV.

I agree, a little more fluid movement from the pilot in relation to the aircraft movements would be good. But just a little. I dont want to completly throw off where i am sitting to be be able to get my gunsights on an enemy.

I hope for an in-game option to enable or disable, plus a slider to adjust intensity, that would awesome!

Even if you just poke your head out and look forward in reality that wing is still in your field of view.

My only concern remains the map/terrain, it got very bland at this stage and becomes dull for flying kind of quick.  I have no concerns with the rest of the game, flight modeling, aircraft modeling, special effects, sound ohhh that sound, all very great   I do hope something is done by the end to make me say wow at that terrain, my concerns were unfounded.

About all they can possibly do is put the roads railways towns and a few snow drifts in with this countryside. Looks like Alberta Saskatchewawn Manitoba on and on.

Unfortunately, the Russian steppe is about the most featureless area in the world, and even worse in the 40's, incidentally, look at that colour, guess that's why the Germans adopted yellow as their factory tank colour.

...and I'm going to be the dick. While I really like most of what I see and experience, I have to say I find the perfect symmetry and identical city properties to be a bit off putting.  Every house has a perfectly square fence sitting on a perfectly square road. I feel like I'm in TRON. The detail is nice, but that symmetry...

Hmm noted. Although why would you curve a street when everything is flat. It does look a little micro chippy though doesn't it.

It just looks too perfect, IMO. There's no individuality in the properties and I find it takes a bit of the realism out for me. I can undertand the roads being straight because the area is so desolate, but there is no town or city like appearance - too even. Maybe it's because I'm from Boston and our roads were formed from the cow paths in settler days.

Hmmmm noting what? I'm a dick? ;)

Where I live in Texas, we have flat terrain that goes on and on, and its rare to have a street if any down here that do not go either north/south or east/west. Its a benefit to living on featureless terrain :P,  you have no features to build your roads around

I know what you mean. Though the flat terrain, coupled with one of the coldest winters in 60 years didn't make for much variety I guess. That being said, some signs of war would be good. Perfectly intact villages were probable a bit rare that year. Just as rare as perfect symmetry. :)

I must say I'm really looking forward to Spring or Summer in this sim. It looks good now but I agree with others that it gets a bit monotonous to look at. Not that I mind too much though.

Wouldn't these have been collective farms, and have been very regimented in there design?

Terrain just doesn't seem to get the same amount of attention in sims as the planes do. It's a shame, the game world is just as important as the objects being moved around IMO. After flying helicopters and walking around in GTA V, it's getting harder to stay entertained in the empty flight sim environments. Logistically I know, it would take forever to bring a GTA V level of detail to a flight sim - some day though. If you haven't checked out GTA V, give it a try. It's hands down the best game I've seen in terms of design and scale. The character animations are top too. Sorry for going off topic.

According to this site GTA V took over a thousand developers five years to produce at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars. I'm not sure that any flight sim developer will be able to match that.

Loft talks about the villages and ground detail here:

Agreed, I'm not sure they can match that either.

I'm wondering how flight sims will keep up then??

I think we are gonna expect a lot  of more nice videos during the developmental process.

I've seen some nice looking dusk and dawn screenshots. Can't wait to see some vids of it in bad weather conditions with ground explosions.

But about this video, nobody noticed the pop up effect of fences?

I do hope it is because it is all WIP and get fixed sooner or later.

Was an annoying thing in IL2:1946.
