Mission Editor - Camera Type "Self" Not Working Properly

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
Brief description:

Camera operator with type "Self" points North when triggered, but it should point towards the location in basic properties (until you press F11 and change the view with your mouse).

Detailed description, conditions:

According to the RoF manual, section 7.7.2, type "Self":

"camera that points at the place specified in its basic properties or a camera that moves along

CameraPoint or according to 3D path script. This camera is a first person view camera."

Assuming that the BoS and the RoF "Self" cameras are supposed to work as described above, the BoS camera is not behaving as expected. The camera should point towards the location in basic properties (until you press F11 and change the view with your mouse).

The attached mission shows that the camera faces North and towards the ground when it is triggered. Then, when the first camera point is triggered, the view flips over to the proper position and keeps that position in view while the camera moves through each camera position. Also, in a mission without the camera positions, the view remains looking North, until the user presses F11 and moves the view with the mouse.

One way around the problem is to trigger the camera point slightly before triggering the camera, but then you cannot see a stationary view of the position, before the motion starts. One way to see the stationary view is to trigger a "Default" camera, placed at the exact position of the "Self" camera and trigger as follows: Default Camera then camera point then Self camera. However, a "Self" camera that works as described in the RoF manual would be a much better and smoother solution.
