New Sidewinder 2, no force feedback after game start.

Hi everybody,

So I just purchased a Sidewinder 2 from a buddy of mine who has had the thing sitting in a closet unused for about 10 years or so. It has been used all of 10 minutes I believe.

So I plugged it in, everything works fine. Stick centers, motors work great. But, when I start IL2 BOS, directly after logging in the stick no longer has any force feedback at all. I tried changing the settings in game but this does nothing.

Has anybody experienced this and has some way to fix it? I'm kinda bummed and it's next to impossible to fly without the force feedback working....

Is FFB activated in the options (Settings -> Input Devices)?

Yes. When this setting is activated, the stick is completely limp, it doesn't even auto-center.

When I start the game with FFB off, the stick will auto center correctly. But as soon as I turn ffb on in game, the stick goes limp again.

Haven't tried for a while, but if I had issues with my MSFFB2, I would just head into one of the pages to map controls, then exit and it would reinitialise FFB.

Sorry for asking a silly question, but you are testing this while you have airflow over the control surfaces right? (i.e in flight) Otherwise from memory, you wont feel a centering force until there is enough airflow to push on the surfaces.

Make sure the hand sensors that engage the force feedback are clean...I hit mine with some canned air after getting random "dead spots" of FFB...now works great.

Yes. I have tested both in flight and just in the menu. With FFB turned off, the stick will center when my hand covers the sensor and I can have a normal flight just without any other FFB. With FFB turned on, the stick is 100% limp, no centering at all, and I feel no FFB when shooting or anything like that. I can actually feel when the stick goes limp, it's directly after logging in finishes.

Made sure of that, the sensors are as clean as can be.

Extra info: I used to run a Saitek x52 pro, now I only use the throttle part of that, and the MSFFB2 for the stick.

Well, now I feel just slightly stupid. As with most computer problems, it seems some time and a simple restart has fixed my issues. I got home from work today, started the game up, turned FFB on. Stick went limp until the game started, but this time once the game actually began, it centered and all FFB seems to be working correctly. I appreciate everybody's help, glad my new toy is finally working :)

Just fyi some have had issues with USB hubs and or USB3 with ffb in general.

Works best when plugged into native USB 2 port or powered USB 2 hub

although USB 3 is supposed to be backward compatible, MSFFB2 being older does not seem to like USB 3 and can give variable/intermittent issues

Yeah, I´ve also experienced some strange things with the MSFFB2 being plugged into USB 3.0

Gonna try USB 2.0 the next time.
