Oculus Rift Support Possible after Vive Support implemented?

Do you guys think that Oculus Rift support is possible after preliminary VIVE support has been introduced?

I have always thought that that needs at least DX11 but have seen some comments that it may be possible and someone even made it to to display on the rift without tracking I believe.

I put in an order few weeks ago and would be nice to know what can be expected.

Even though I started to hate oculus as a company recently, I went with it as little less SDE has been reported and I have absolutely zero interest in any kind of tracking controllers or standing experience.

So unless those idiots at oculus do not cancel my order I'll have a CV1 in a few months. Chances for cancellation is high as it cannot be ordered to my country so I ordered to a buddy in Switzerland, but I read on the oculus forums that they cancel orders if the associated paypal account is not tied to the 22 countries which is totally crazy I think. I'm almost sure those guys will piss me off again.

Anyway, sorry for the little rant, the point of the topic is my question, I just couldn't resist cussing at oculus a bit.

I am also very interested in your question. I recieved my CV1 about two weeks ago and I am keen to see how the Vive support is working after ironing all these initial defects.

I don´t think Rift support will happen anytime soon, probably for CV2...

For all the people who love BOS/ROF (included me) and have a Rift it would be good to know if the Rift will be supportted in future.

If not I will sell my Rift and will buy a Vive (assuming it will finally work wells and the feedback is as good as in DCS)

I'm using The Rift CV1 in DCS also,The immersion's incredible.I'd be very greatful for BOS/BOM Rift support.

+1  It will be great to see the Rift support in  BOS/BOM  (and IL2 1946 as well!)

Question is how possible currently it seems.

Hi,

Rift user, Just buying BOS to encourage VIVE support, now, waiting for rift support to play BOS and buy BOM. ;)

it's not a caprice, simply can't play flat game sim any more! :salute:

So I experimented with both the DK2 and CV1 and was only able to get the CV1 to work without the headtracking due to the lack of direct mode compatibility between the oculus runtime and SteamVR beta.  SteamVR beta does not work with earlier OR runtimes either and newer OR runtimes don't function when disabling direct mode which results in the headtracking  becoming non-functional.  For now I can fly around using the CV1 and use the POV hat on my HOTAS which is not VR friendly.  I am excited about the future of VR for this sim.

Thanks for the info.

It's exciting that at least it displays on the rift. Not sure how high the excitement should go though.

After a bit of thinking, it would be nice from oculus to publish one of their earlier runtimes as official DX9 runtime and make the CV1 compatible with it. Probably this would not take too much effort from them. Not sure how many games are out there with DX9.

Actually I am still on 0.6 with my DK2 with iRacing. Running it in DX9 mode (iRacing now runs on DX11, but DX9 option can still be selected if the user wants)

Oculus did dropped support for DX9, partly because VR requires as many optimizations as possible to avoid motion sickness, etc.  That not to say that DX9 games won't run on the Rift.  BOS needs optimizations, but Oculus's new ATW software will help considerably.  I haven't run BOS for sometime.  Can people run BOS at relatively high or low settings and maintain 90fps, if so BOS will be a decent candidate for VR.  COD is also working on VR support, and my recent testing show that COD can maintain 90+ fps at the highest settings, so its also a good candidate for VR.   VR is the future of flight sims, and BOS/COD/DCS/WT all recognise that.
