Azdack Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hi question regarding campaign in BOM as well as in BOS : there are airfields showing a small gunsight icon stuck to main airfield icon. For instance in BOM : campaign typhon airfield Inyutino shows that gunsight icon. What is the difference between those airfields with small gunsight icons and the other ones? Thanks in advance for answers.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 If you click on those, you will play a hand-crafted mission depicting a specific scenario for that phase of the campaign. Each campaign phase has one of those for each side 1
No601_Swallow Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) The ones I've flown have been very well done (by Black Six, if I'm not mistaken). You can load them up in the ME afterwards to steal his ideas (and functioning "groups")! There are some great touches, like getting back to base and having to fly a couple of circuits waiting for comrades to take off and clear the runway. Edit: And - you can play them again and again, if you want to get them right! Edited June 29, 2016 by No601_Swallow 2

Thanks in advance for answers. Just flying them would reveal the answer, as I did. What I don`t like about them is they`re the same scripted thing every time. I never fly unless I have to to progress the campaign, in which case I fly once and never again. Sorry for the whining.
Comes Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 How can I play them again once I completed them? The Gunsight Icon changes to a completed Icon and when I click on the airfield, I can choose the Mission Type (just like with any other Airfield)...

216th_Jordan Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 yeah, its a real pity. you fly these wonderful missions once and thats it.
CUJO_1970 Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Yet another bad decision for the campaign to get rid of those missions. In fact, the entire campaign should have been built around unique missions like those, same way any video game is built around a story.
Dakpilot Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Has there been any confirmation that this has been a design decision, or simply a bug/coding oversight? Cheers Dakpilot

For me, campaign like that would be pretty boring after first play through. You always know exactly what happens. I like to have randomly generated missions.
Jade_Monkey Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Has there been any confirmation that this has been a design decision, or simply a bug/coding oversight? Cheers Dakpilot Someone said that after completing it it shows a checkmarck instead of a crosshair. If that's true then it's definitely intentional. It makes no sense though. They want to push the campaign so badly, then bother to make handmade missions and now you can only play them once and there is no way to reset the campaign? It looks like different people are taking contradictory decisions and implementing them. These are incoherent ideas. The most ironic part is that now i dont want to play those missions so im not "locked out" of them. So instead of eplayin them because they are good missions, now I'm not playing them at all.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) But the check mark could be meant just to show that you have completed it and not to lock it off. I cant think of one game where you cant go back and restart/replay a chapter or level unless it is a game mode specifically dedicated to getting through on one life.. My guess its a bug or if not they will revert back to the old format. Edited July 4, 2016 by AeroACE

My guess its a bug or if not they will revert back to the old format. Just checked it. Once the checkmark is there, the airfield becomes like any other airfield, and you play a normal mission, not the handcrafted ones. Really odd choice given the effort they put into the missions.

IIRC devs mentioned that the campaign reset might be possible in future so could be something to do with that.

I like to have randomly generated missions. Randomness can be built in to the campaign just like any other. The stock campaign is hardly random now as you basically fly same escort/intercept/ground attack mission over and over with only slight variations.

How do you make missions random when they are scripted? I see a lot of variations in generated missions currently. Maybe we are playing different campaign.
VBF-12_Snake9 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Another poor decision or poor code bugs. Lucky I completed all the skins by flying these over and over before the patch.
Feathered_IV Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Oh damn. I just completed the Russian Moacow single the other night and was intending to fly it again. If I'd seen this thread earlier I would have dived myself into the ground to avoid locking it out forever. I sometimes think the person in charge of single player gameplay would really be much better off flipping burgers somewhere.
