Hi,

 

I thought about that yesterday and even if it look a bit crazy, I think 1C and 777 Studios should allow Daidalos Team to use the Digital Nature Engine to work on an Il2 1946 remaster.

 

Yes I know that we have BOS, BOM and COD, but I think they are more something complementary to Il2 1946. For example, 1946 is the heart and the other games are the veins. This comparison doesn't make sens, but whatever... Il2 1946 is a very complete game, but update after update, we see that the limit was reached long ago in term of flight physic, texture quality, etc. Even if DT are making miracle to improve AI and a bit of the plane physic by changing some stuffs here and here the limite was reached.

 

That's why I think that merging everything or kind of remake the game in Digital Nature Engine could be great to create :

- Bigger map

- Better map fidelity

- Better flight physic

- Better effects

- Better ground texture

- Better all

 

I'm not a game developer, so I don't know how much time it could take to make everything from Europe to Pacific, but I think the easier is to make the maps first. As I know, there is no maps physics. The only thing maps have is dynamic weather. After that they could take the 3d models of planes from Il2 1946 and add more details and improve skins textures quality and that's it. No need to improve the flight physic at this point. Maybe in a later patch, but I think the more important here is to enjoy our favorite game in our favorite engine.

In spirit, what you are suggesting would be great.  Were it possible.  I doubt however that it would be any less of a long road to reproduce the 1946 series in the DN engine than it is now for the current BoS games.

Perhaps the wings of Prey engine might have a shot.  It's engine is much closer in design to the original series.

But wings of prey engine is unknown, cliffs of dover engine is also unknown, so the only possibility is DN Engine. Like I said, they don't have to make everything great first. Just port everything from 1946 into the new engine, add more details, tweak some stuffs and that's it.

 

Maybe the best way would be to use ROF engine which is an older version of BOS.

Whatever, it would be really cool to see Il2 1946 shine again.

There are no assets in IL-2 '46 that could usefully be transferred to a simulation using more recent technology. And Team Daidalos are volunteers - even if it were possible to use anything, a fundamental rebuild would involve so much work that I very much doubt that they would be interested.

To re-make all you see now in IL-2:1946, you're looking at about 5 years.
