1./KG4_OldJames Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Awesome, yet again, Tip. Thanks for that, the Stukas were very efficient, and fun.
WWGriphos Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 (edited) Very much enjoyed the Stukas. Sorry to the Pe-2 that I collided with over the lake. Not my intention to take you down that way. I lost my orientation in your smoke trail and had a much higher closure rate than I was expecting. I guess jumping into a 109 after the much slower Stuka was not the best idea. There was probably a reason bomber pilots didn’t just jump into fighters on a whim in reality. Edited December 9, 2017 by WWGriphos
II/JG11_ATLAN_VR Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) yesterday evening great FNBF Event again, thx to everybody especially tip.here some pics from the frontline Result at the end, with one Wheel you cannot land, only crash Edited December 9, 2017 by II/JG11ATLAN 4
NN_Razor Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Atlan, the pics of the damage 109 on RTB and his crash on airfield show the immersive aspect/angle of FNB. Tried myself to turn back and save my plane after an hard fight arround the lake...but had to jump! Thanks all! 2
1./KG4_OldJames Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) the immersive aspect/angle of FNB. Agreed, I found myself jumping into a 109 purely to shuttle it from the frontline base back to our new base. as it happens, the Russians took the base about 5 minutes later, so next week, when there is a spare 109 for you fighter-jocks, you can thank me for saving you one ! ( but if you find there aren't enough Ju87s next week, I also lost one of those on my second sortie ) Edited December 9, 2017 by 1./KG4_OldJames 2
SCG_happy_meal Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 OldJames you did do some good work with that stuka before going down. Not as me blowing up panzer because i did mix up my ordnance, and dropped 2x250kg when i did belive i droped one sd70. sorry for that Panzer. And that train was a beast! 2x 500kg to begin with and then 2times 2x50kg. and still it refused to blowup! finally a burst 20mm got it. 2
Chief_Mouser Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Great to see the picture of my Il-2 beneath the Stukas. Nocke was in my gunner seat and did we get a surprise as we were quietly going about our business (evading 109s) when suddenly the air was rent with the wail of Jericho Trumpets. I couldn't work out what the noise was and Nocke thought that I must have over-revved the engine! We had a grandstand view of the attack - very impressive. I did have the idea of going after the Stukas and surprising them as they pulled out of the dive, but as we were the last remaining Il-2 discretion became the better part of valour and we carried on away from there. Destroyed a train later on so it was worth it. Edited December 9, 2017 by 216th_Cat 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) My night did not go very smoothly :-) First mission of the day was to take six PE2s filled with supplies to open up Buryakovskaya. All went very well... ..until I landed. It was a good landing, I am sure it was not hard, and I slowed down to walking pace and started taxiing towards the unloading area but 30m from my destination doing about 10kmh the wheel fell off! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99kxGXie-Gg I suspected that would not count as close enough to be a delivery so as another PE2 had crashed on landing I went back with him to bring another two PE2 so we could open the field and that meant going to a different field which was a longer flight away. By the time we had opened the field the rest of the PE2 were half way to their bombing target at Krsnodar so we decided to do the armed recce of Severskaya. My wingman had already decided on a route so I let him lead but half way there (by his reckoning) one of my engines started acting up. There was no flak and the temperatures were well within bounds and RPMs were only 90% so I can only assume I broke it by cutting the throttle then going full power too quickly. I have seen Russian engines do this before. It was smoking so I toid my leader to continue without me while I dropped down low and continued more slowly. I could still see him ahead but he seemed way off course. He insisted he knew where he was but when I saw him circling I realised he was actually 'Temporarily Unsure Of His Position' :-) I continued on the course we had decide beforehand and came to a town that must be the friendly one we had expected to pass en-route. By this time I had feathered one engine and was barely able to maintain 300m then suddenly I was surrounded by flak bursts and my other engine was hit so I quickly ditched in the nearest field. When I came to a stop I looked sideways and what did I see? It was Severskaya! I had ditched few hundred meters from the factory I was supposed to be photographing Luckily when I told my wing leader where I was he was able to work out where he actually was and complete the recce. [DBS]Tx_Tip Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Fierce Stuka attacks and plenty of action to be had. Good Stuff.
Lusekofte Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 yesterday evening great FNBF Yeah we have noticed, our IL 2 missions lately have been 109 treats and nothing else. rough luck on our part.
1./KG4_OldJames Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 suddenly the air was rent with the wail of Jericho Trumpets. 1.JaVA_BlGGLES Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 We only had two fighters to protect the il2's! Well...here goes my wingman! After that I got all of the Luftwaffe Fighters on me! Here are 2 in close formation shooting at me! And I was under fire of four Germans! 1
1.JaVA_BlGGLES Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Later I could shoot back at 2 JU88! All the credits went to the FLAK guys I think! Well it was an interesting evening! Cheers Biggles 1
Sky_Wolf Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Here's highlights of the Pe-2s mission to south Krasnodar. 4
56RAF_Roblex Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Lovely photos Biggles and thanks for posting that video Pericles so I could see what I missed :-) I had a wheel fall off when delivering supplies but I cannot see anything wrong with my landing and I did not hit anything while taxiing (I had a track and looked from outside) Here is a video of just my touchdown & taxi and the vario bottom left shows I was only descending at -2 when I landed which is about as gentle as is possible. The constant revving of the engines is because there was strong crosswind so I was struggling to taxi straight. Any thoughts? I did land on my left wheel first but it was the right that broke. Could my revving the engine and braking to force it turn have caused a failure I wonder? Or perhps my trouble taxiing was not the crosswind but a sign that it was already damaged? I don't recall any issues on take-off either so doubt it was damaged that early. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99kxGXie-Gg Edited December 10, 2017 by 56RAF_Roblex
Sky_Wolf Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) The only logical explanations are: (1) a bug, (2) that your wheels were damaged by enemy fire at some point during the mission, EDIT (3) that your wheels were damaged during takeoff, (4) that your wheels were damaged by holding brakes while increasing manifold pressure beyond some threshold... I don't know. Edited December 10, 2017 by Pericles
Chief_Mouser Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) I have seen wheels damaged on takeoff that fell off later. If you were still on the ground after the end of the runway it's possible that you hit a bump. I had a hard job working out the losing of a wheel once but looking at the track the gear had been bent back ever so slightly, on takeoff, by a bump. It can take a while for the wheel to come off; the one I was looking at dropped off all on its own quite a while later, so perhaps a final bit of stress in your taxying finished it off? PS Love the animation of the wheel rolling away! Edited December 10, 2017 by 216th_Cat
WWGriphos Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Wouldn’t option (2) be a very nice feature! I do like the way the devs pay attention to important details. Ramps up the immersion. Nothing wrong with your landing or taxiing, Roblex.
Retnek Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Wheel off - just fishing in the dark: did you use the brakes very often? Since the WW2-plane-brakes especially for the bombers often were weak and overheated soon. I handle them with extra care by default. Maybe this is modelled, too?
Retnek Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Gremlins ... Lenin never mentioned Gremlins so there are no Gremlins! But it might be a counter-revolutionary conspiracy! Court martial for his ground crew and the apron-service-crew will solve the problem. If they are lucky they get away with a disciplinary transfer to a fighter unit.
56RAF_Roblex Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Yes I think that being slightly damaged on take-off is the most likely though I did not start recording until after take-off. If it is modeled then Retness suggestion about abusing the brakes is also likely as I was speeding up and braking alternately because I was struggling to make it turn left due to the crosswind. I know that 1C have modeled delayed damage because on only my fourth or fifth sortie on BoX I ground looped quite badly taxiing out but as DCS does not care when you do that I did not worry. About 30 seconds after take-off my aileron just fell off and fluttered away :-)
NN_Razor Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Don't forget to take my 8mm. Was uncorfortable but here the result: Take off: Lambert in no futur position..... i was thinking fire on lamber's agressor... but i put myself in no futur position... Oscar give my a hand (scratched à little my skin).... During the same time bravo work together... but my engine finally died..and i jump away of my trap... Take off again...Pe2 send an SOS. Long time to find them. Start shot on 109 engine off...He called his wingman who go away in hell dive. I fallow him...speed shake my trap but i can fire on pe2 agressor: This time was good mission for NN guys. Light losses, good coms with pe2 even if we wasn't able to cover them at the good time (like il2 few minutes before). Will try to do better next time. Thanks. 3
WWGriphos Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Abusing the brakes would cause the brakes to fail, but not the wheel to come off. I don't think it has anything to do with brakes. I'm betting on damage while in the air if you took some shots from enemy.

Chief_Mouser Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 (edited) Just my luck! Blew up a train and a couple of tanks, flew underneath a Stuka attack, ferried three Il-2s to their new base and survived the lot. And no stats . Almost the first time I'd looked forward to seeing them. Never mind, have a good Christmas one and all; looking forward to when FNBF comes back. Cheers. Edited December 11, 2017 by 216th_Cat 1
