Quax Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 We all know the 109 was a very capable and advanced fighter. But it was difficult to master due to its narrow, high and far forward main gear. How did the german pilots in WW2 get trained, so they didn´t kill themselfs at first try ? You can see it in this license: First thing was, most pilot students have been trained glider pilots, when they started in the "Flugzeugführerschule A/B". The training started on the Bü131 (one of the most demanding biplanes, when it comes to landing, because of its high and narrow gear !) and they got to be proficient until proceeding via the Bü181, Klemm 35, Arrado 96 and FW 58 to the "Jagdfliegerschule", where they further trained aerobatics on the Bü 133 until they got their first flight on the Bf109. Why are I telling this ? We will get the first 109 "simulator" in a few days (forget all other experience you think you had on any other 109s - Clod f.e. was a joke when it came to landings). Can we expect to jump in and take off and land without any training ? Ok, there is no Bü 131 simulator available, but there is Rise of Flight !! - which offers several planes, which are as demanding as the Bü 131 and some are even more difficult (N11 f.e.). It is free to play with the Alby and Spad. (the FM is made by the same genius, who is doing the BOS FMs). So if you have time at the weekend and you are awaiting the 109, i highly recommend to download RoF and get proficient in landing the Alby - without ground looping and bouncing If you have time left, invest a few dollars for the Camel or the Nieuport and continue the training. This will make your first flight in the 109 much more "realistic" and enjoyable - i am sure 1
BigPickle Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I think they might want people to try out and bug test the new game
Belphe Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Very interesting facts about the German Airmen training. Thanks! Also, a nice way to bring more people to Rise of Flight. +1
Feathered_IV Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 RoF is good training. If you can take off and survive level flight and a landing in the Gotha G.V, you can do anything. That beast never stops wanting to kill you.
