A temporary fix for the SLI users

Hey guys,

I do apologize if this has already been covered but I know a few people are having the same problem as me. Currently the game appears to have negative SLI scaling, meaning with both cards enabled it stutters like crazy. I found a fix to at least get rid of it and play the game with both cards - Not sure if it actually gives you a performance boost at this point but it's nice not having to constantly disable a card.

First you need Nvidia inspector: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvidia_inspector_download.html ( Mirrors at the bottom ). It doesn't require and install so place it somewhere convenient.

Click the little tool icon to access the profile menu;

At the top, find the profile labelled "IL 2 - Sturmovik" which is tied to the IL2.exe

Under that section you'll find a ton of text and numbers. What we're interested in is the SLI compatbility bits.

You need to click the "0x00400001" SettingValue and change that to "0x04400005" which is the same bit listed for Rise of Flight.

When that is changed, you simply click "Apply changes" in the top right corner and then you can close the software.

Note: If you are using the launcher and it doesn't work, try to start the IL2.exe directly which resides in "IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game"

Now my game is running fine with both cards enabled :) And again, I do apologize if this has been covered already - Couldn't see anything.

I was considering going SLI, do you experience any microstutter or has that been pretty much eliminated with more recent driver updates?

If you mean in general then SLI has been a smooth experience for years now. When the technology was in its infancy a few years back you'd see quite a bit of negative scaling, microstutter, waiting around for drivers etc. ( Where most of its reputation comes from ) but we've reached a point where it's close to a problem-free experience. My last 3 setups have been SLI and I haven't seen actual microstutter in years. Profiles, like the one above are usually updated and typically if the game has no profile / SLI support it just uses 1 card. Before you'd see negative scaling. Two-card SLI these days provides basically 100% scaling, meaning you will get double the performance.

This is the first game in almost 3 years where I've seen negative scaling or an actual performance impact with SLI. However it is an alpha so it's to be expected.

Crossfire on the other hand is another story.

Thank you! I have been researching it and wasn't convinced that the microstutter was totally resolved across the board for games in more completed states. I also had a wierd stutter issue that is due to my monitor being a knock off (Yamakasi 30" Sparta Multi - I do not recommend it!) so didn't want to add to it's stutter/display hitching.

Good evening !

What I have done with Nvidia Inspector is to unassign the "il2.exe" from the "IL 2 - Sturmovik" profile (because this profile is the one of "IL-2 FB 1946" but they share the same .exe file name....), and to reassign it to the "Rise of Flight" profile, which is the most logical due to the use of the same graphic engine.

Sorry for my English, I hope it's understandable.

Sethos,

Have you tried this with ROF at all?
