Picchio Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Always the leader. Well... I hope I'm not the only one thinking that this is quite a silly design choice. I also think that being able to fly as wingman should be considered as an almost vital feature... even with the current campaign structure, it shouldn't be impossible to implement... and with these ranks, it would only make perfect sense. No? And why not? 1

No? And why not? Agreed. IIRC devs mentioned that it might be added in the future. They are adding new stuff bit by bit so I think it will be possible some day.
Jade_Monkey Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I havent tested the new rank system but i still dont understand why would they not let us pick a rank manually. From tbe programming standpoint it would be 100x easier and people can play the campaign the way they want. First they force the unlocks through campaign and then they make the campaign unnecessarily complicated. Have they forgotten that we play this for fun on our free time?
Herne Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I really like the career mode in RoF, the only thing I would change would be, to have a kind of iron man mode :- So should your pilot die or be captured, you could continue the campaign as a fresh battle casualty replacement, but you would still see evidence of your previous pilots exploits among the squadron leaderboards, or a photo of the fallen in the mess, sort of thing.

An hour and a half a day for a fortnight. Not testing it, but instead trying to play it purely for entertainment.

That would be really good The number of times I make stupid mistake and die is spectacular.

At PL 15 I flew several missions yesterday and still find it impossible to survive in an IL2 or Pe2 ground attack mission. Ah well back to PWCG for pure enjoyment instead of ridiculous PL frustration.
JG_Meyer Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Long time ago I have asked about the SP quality...the answer was: don´t put much hope on it. Well, today, I have just one thing to say: it´s atrocious. How hard is to fix the damn thing? How hard it´s to use the formula that actually works? Do you wanna a change? Change it for the better, not for the worst. I am a 100% offline player... so, why would I buy BOM? No, thanks...this is not in my plans.
JG13_opcode Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 They should hire FlatSpinMan to make a campaign for them, and then have it translated to Russian and other languages. His Afrika campaign was the only time I've been actually able to enjoy single player. I hear his Battle of France one was pretty good too.
Albino Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 This suggestion is a little far fetched. It would make sense only in a dynamic or 'career' campaign. I would like to be able to perform recon tasks. For example; when flying to an from mission objectives, the player could notice the locations of enemy conveys, trains, artillery, spotters, AA, airfield activity etc and mark them on the map. The accuracy of your work could then be used as a variable dictating the progress of the campaign, or as objectives in later missions. As a fighter, this would give you an incentive to get close to the deck, instead of constantly chasing altitude in order to be on top in any random encounters. Further, it would be great if the world was more reactive to your presence. Eg; if you fly past an active airfield, fighters might scramble to follow you. If you are seen by an enemy unit with a radio, again, fighters might be dispatched. If combined with the ability to plan your route and altitude before take off, this would force you to make meaning decisions as flight leader. Regards Albino

Rise of Flight's career could do this, but they didn't quite take it far enough and only one enemy airfield per-mission would have the ability to spawn an enemy fighter or two. It's like they have the tools, but just need to use them effectively.
Brownshortz Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 I know this is an old thread but I just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth to the SP campaign discussion. I bought the original IL2 back in the day and spent many fun hours online in MP....Il2 has always excelled in the accuracy and detail of its simulation. The FM and recreation of the various planes is unparalleled. The SP aspect of the game however has always felt tacked on and shallow. I remember playing a game called Battle of Britain: Their finest hour back in the Amiga days. In that game the campaign mode allowed you total control over the pilots in your squadron....from who piloted the planes in your wing to who manned the guns on the bombers. You even had control over the formation various flights flew on the mission. And the NPC pilots/gunners gained skill and rep the more missions they flew. Losing a pilot you had trained up from a recruit was a total pain in the butt I remember. I know its just a pipe dream but I would love to see that type of involved SP campaign in IL2. Would just make this game perfect imo.

Hopefully 1C will incorporate this into their campaign.

Brownshortz Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 BTW Patrick is PWCG available for BOM or is it just BOS? Thanks

hames123 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I have a few ideas, but the main thing that is need is better ground attack AI. Missions should be varied, and maybe custom missions could be created and sent to the devs, and they will pop up randomly?(For example, a large Il 2 Sturmovik attack on German troops massing near Mamalev Kuragan. With 3-5 flights of Il 2s and some Laggs, and a target area full of Halftracks and tanks, with heavy AA and large numbers of enemy fighters that appear after a while. Or a He111 mission to bomb a trainyard with enemy trains side by side, presenting an easy target. Or a career mission in BoK where your squadron of A-20s must attack and damage or sink a German battlecrusier). Just things that shake up the campaign and make it less predictable. With the amount of mission makers in BoS, it should not be hard to eventually get 1 custom mission every month for every career, as long as the devs regularly patch the career and add more custom missions in.
PatrickAWlson Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Aces over the Pacific did a great job of that, where dynamically generated missions were sprinkled with premade historical missions. That let you fly some of the most interesting missions of the war without sinking a carrier every week.
1CGS LukeFF Posted March 7, 2017 1CGS Posted March 7, 2017 Or a career mission in BoK where your squadron of A-20s must attack and damage or sink a German battlecrusier There were no German battlecruisers anywhere close to the Black Sea.
hames123 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Yes, I know, but the Germans came up with the idea of sailing the Prinz Eugen(a crusier or battlecrusier, depending on nation)into the black sea. It could be an interesting "what if".

sinned Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) I think Random expert style dynamic campaign would be really good as sp campaign. Just throw in ai planes and have ability send diff flights to targets of your choice and be able to jump in to those flights. I will play all day long.. Edited March 7, 2017 by sinned
TheSNAFU Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 In my view all they need to do is plug PWCG into the game and refine it with more life at the airfields, more ground targets and just generally clean up a few things. The dynamic missions and total flexibility as to the squadron and plane we fly, ability to chose who flies the missions, scrub missions, entire squadron dressed in skins of our choice. I actually feel bad when I see a pilot in my unit get killed or captured. It so close to being all we could want in a SP experience. Pat has done an amazing job. It's all there, just needs a bit more work to be darn near perfect. One pilots opine!
