Weichspuel3r Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Hi there, I´m new to the game and i want to know if there is a option to look around with a button on the x 52 flightstick, or do i need a track ir 5. Its really expensive and i dont want tos spend that much money right now. So is there any way to change the view smoothly with the stick or can i just bind diffrent camera positions?
curiousGamblerr Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Yes you can configure the hat switches on top of the x52 joystick, or any other button you like, to look around. I highly recommend TrackIR if you have the chance to buy it, but it's not required by any means.
Bando Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Required? No. I got mine years ago. If it would brake, I'd get a new one right away and stop flying until it arrives. It's not required, but you won't fly without it, once used to it. There are cheaper alternatives with webcams and open source software.

I suppose you could try the mouse? I used to use it before i had Track Ir as the hat switch just didn`t cut it. I`d have the joystick in my left hand and use the mouse with right. It was the closest thing to trackir in my view. A very unique system which probably won`t work for you. Edited June 11, 2016 by seafireliv
GrendelsDad Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I have a Chproducts pro throttle and I used the mousestick as a mouse for view. It worked very well after adjusting for the jitters in the settings of the ch control manager. I am not sure if the Throttle you have has this or not?
Weichspuel3r Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the fast responds, I think i will get a track ir bit later. But i have another question. The x 52 has this twist axis for the rudder control. Is this a good alternative for footpedals? Edit: On the Track IR website they say that the headset clip has a range from 60 to 150 cm. Does this mean that i cant use it under 60 cm distance to my monitor? That might be a problem because i cant sit that far away and i dont want to wear this stupid hat. GridiroN Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 When I bought this game I originally didn't bother getting track IR, i just used the head swivel commands to look around the cockpit. The disadvantage from not having trackIR is equivalent to playing with only 1 hand. I would say it's that significant.

TrackIR works at a normal view distance to a monitor. I stil fairly close and don't have trouble. The stupid hat you'll get used to, you can order a visor style from Naturalpoint. The benefits of the device far outweigh having to wear the hat. I just went out to the theater with my wife and she commented on my "stupid game hair" since I was on BoS just prior. :-D
Scarecrow Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 If you can afford it Track IR is a "game changer". Once you get used to it and have response curves set up you'll never fly without it. Rudder pedals are alot better than twist rudder once you get used to them. I've had my CH Pro Pedals for 13 years and they work flawlessly. Flight sims are an expensive hobby to start up but you'll get plenty of good advice here on how to spend your money wisely.
coconut Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Twist axis on the joystick is ok for the rudder. Pedals are ice of course, but not must have.
SYN_Mike77 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 get trackir before pedals if money is the consideration. and I don't know where they got that minimum distance from! I have the clip and sit much closer w/o a problem. The clip is great btw, You don't have to worry about light at all and since I wear headphones anyway it is not a problem.
seafireliv Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Yea, I often find myself a foot away from my monitor (too close), doesn`t foul up TR5 though. I would highly advised getting it. It is a game changer.
Weichspuel3r Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 Thanks for all the information! I´m a real pleb when it comes to those hardware questions. I think im now ready to go. I will order my x 52 and track ir in two weeks when i finished my exam
DD_Crash Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 You can always use this http://www.edtracker.co.uk/
1Sascha Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 TrackIR is a gamechanger in sims. The first couple of weeks will feel really odd, but after that you won't want to go back to a hat-switch.

Rjel Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I used a mouse for years for my viewpoints. It became very natural to use and worked well. BUT, I finally broke down and bought a TrackIR 5 this last winter. All I can say is I wished I'd bought it long ago. Everything in this thread and in many others is true. Until (if and when) VR becomes common place, TrackIR brings a real feel of being there while flying. I couldn't go back.
Nocke Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I fly with my left hand and look with my mouse in the right with pretty good results. My question with trackir is, how far do you turn your head to look behind you? Are you looking at your monitor out of the corner of your eye or something? Wonder how that would work with glasses? One of the things I do with mouse is slowly move it in the same direction that the scenery is moving while I turn in order to keep what I'm looking at sort of 'stationary' on the screen...allows me to spot things more clearly with no blur (even with cinematic turned off). Can you do that by panning your head with trackir? All that is just a matter of some days of practice with TrackIR. You can look as far behind as the game allows, without needing to peek through the corners of yours eyes. Glasses are no problem either. And you can adjust everything to your needs. Also you can set a button for a sort of slow motion feature, forgot the name, but with that you can do also the slow panning you asked for. Anyways, with the already mentioned practice, that is not a problem at all. That TrackIR thing just becomes a part of you, feels absolutely natural after some time. And dont forget, you have 3 axes, one more than with the mouse.
seafireliv Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) You know, I`ve changed my mind. Trackir is excellent and it`s really immersive to use, so it`s a game changer in that respect. However, it is not essential. I flew with a guy online who says he has NO trackir, just uses the Hat and he is very good at locating and shooting aircraft down. I remember seeing this before with another guy who had no Track Ir a few years back. I would still advise to get it though, just for the immersion and it does free up your buttons for other things.
