216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Sad news from Moscow and Leeuwarden. Early on the 9th, a Su-27 from the Russian Knights demonstration team crashed. The pilot, commander of the squadron Major Sergei Yeremenko was killed. Heroically, he steered his aircraft away from residential areas but this denied him the chance to eject safely. As per Russian Air Force procedure, the Su-27 fleet is briefly grounded until the cause of the crash has been determined. Later in the day, during preparations for an airshow in Leeuwarden, NL, a Patrouille Suisse F-5E crashed. Fortunately, the pilot ejected safely. While there are no reports on the cause yet, footage shows the aircraft was missing half a horizontal stabilisers, suggesting either a mid-air collision or structural failure. unlikely_spider Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Wow, really? This after two similar incidents from the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds! It's really a reminder that these people put their very lives on the line each and every time they step into the cockpit. So sad.
LLv24_Zami Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I noticed these incidents on Finnish newspapers yesterday. RIP Lots of sad accidents lately with the demonstration teams around the world.
