The new Intel 10 core CPU is out. It will run at 3 Ghz if all cores are used and up to 4 Ghz if a smaller number is active. Cache is pretty large at 25MB.

My question here is how many cores does BOS and BOM effectively use. Graphics are taken over by the graphic board, but for game AI and to feed the graphic board with data the CPU is needed. Managing large plane fleets like a 50 unit bomber attack wave or so is probably very taxing on the CPU. The other way to look at it is up to how many cores count would we see an improvement in BOS or BOM performance considering that we use a top Pascal based graphic board like the GTX 1080.

I have a 4 core computer and when I check, all 4 cores are being used during the game.  One of them at a pretty consistent and generally low percentage.  My understanding is that core is probably handling the OS and  other background chores.  So, at least 3 cores are being used.

I don`t know the answer for certain, but I highly doubt BOS\BOM is ready to use 10 cores or ever will be. It`s pretty hard to get Devs on getting all 4 cores used and they`ve been out for years. I suspect BOS\BOM makes use of multiple cores, but I doubt we`ll see it ever use up to 10.

DX12 is needed to make the best use of those benefits, writing a programme for multiple cores to use fully (4+) I believe is surprisingly more hard than would be expected, and unlikely to be done until this is (10 core) is more mainstream

I also get pretty good usage across 4 cores

DX12 will make all cores available to feed GPU which is where most bottlenecks occur now
