ShamrockOneFive Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 I don't really need to find another reason to spend some serious money but I often wonder what I would do if my current 5.1 Altec Lansing VS-3151 stopped working. As it is, they are probably somewhere close to the 14-15 year old mark and while I think they still sound pretty good... the 5.1 setup doesn't quite fully fit into the space and I wonder how much enjoyment I might get from a really good 2.1 setup. So, I'm curious. What do you guys use for speakers? I'm lightly an audiophile... for my home theatre I splurged some years back and bought Polk Audio towers, center and surrounds and wired them all into a pretty decent mid-range Yamaha receiver unit. Those sound incredible! I know there are better ones from Paradigm and elsewhere but these were about 90-95% of the performance for a sizable discount.
skline00 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 I use headphone on both of my rigs. Kingston HyperX Cloud II for the 5960x and Logitech G35 for the 4790k.
GrendelsDad Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) Logitech Z-5500's are really nice, just hard to find as they are very old. You can come accross some on Ebay and Amazon for a pretty penny but they were 400$ when they first came out. I would look into putting your own system together and just buy a nice receiver and some nice bookshelf speakers. ( Start with 2.1 and up-grade later, just buy a proper receiver ie. 5.1 or 7.1 or whatever you like) My favorite parts sight for audio is Parts Express. Fast shipping and customer service is great. I am no audio expert I just really like this part of gaming. Really brings the games I play to life for me. Edited June 6, 2016 by 6./ZG1_GrendelsDad

I'm only familiar with the rather large sized receivers that you can get for home theatre. Do they make low profile models? I've never seen... But then I've never gone looking.
GrendelsDad Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) I will look into a few this evening and see what i can come up with. http://www.parts-express.com/b652-air-51-home-theater-surround-sound-speaker-system-with-12-subwoofer--300-697 I really like Dayton Audio amps, for budget minded folks these are nice. http://www.parts-express.com/yamaha-rx-v381-51-channel-home-theater-receiver-100-watts-per-channel--312-524 Yamahas have mixed reviews but this one was solid from what I have heard. I will look for some better receivers. http://www.parts-express.com/onkyo-tx-nr646-72-network-home-theater-receiver-170-watts-per-channel-with-powered-2nd-zone--252-514 This one is a 7.2 receiver and I personally like this brand better than Yamaha...There are a lot of choices and I really dont know of any Low profile units but maybe someone who is really good with audio could chime in soon. 71st_AH_Mastiff Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 well the new glass speakers really look awesome, and they can be limited to your own work space, in other words only you can hear them, when directed towards your ears. http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/turtle-beach-hypersound-glass.html 1

Those are the opposite of low profile Great stuff for my home theatre mind you. Love my Yamaha. Those glass speakers are something else eh!?
GrendelsDad Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) This one looks nice...says slim in the title and its a mid grade Yamaha which I do hear good things about. 60w per channel would be plenty for PC. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxs600bl/yamaha-rx-s600-slim-5.1-ch-x-60-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw1v66BRCV-6rh6s-Biu8BEiQAelpuiy5T6ASe-4yUr2tc0EsVqw2ybeQuy8zeyqCrq0yKcKsaAlTt8P8HAQ Has HDMI pass through. Looks a little more desktop friendly. Not sure about the website? Never ordered from them. Don't forget to set up your tactile transducer after you install your audio.
