Greetings!

Guys - I got an idea recently.

Well, with moving next addon more to 1943 ar back to 1940 - anyway - we will miss interesting and important aircrafts, which took part of BoM and BoS combats, but were not released in game yet. So, We will miss some >10 aircrafts.

What if we will ask Devs to modell a single premium aircrafts and cell them via Game Store like it is in Rise of Flight. SAy, 15$ for aircraft You like to see in game is fair, IMHO.

Additional Premium aircrafts for Battle of Moscow:

Hs123B-1

This little sturdy aircraft was the only true assault (Schlacht) aircraft of Luftwaffe during first half of WWII. Used in Gruppe-strengh during campaigns in Poland and France, it covered itself with undisputed Glory.  Missing Battle of Britain (because of short operational distance), Hs123 participated in Balkans Campaign, and later in Easter Front operations from june 1941 onwards.  Success of “Eins-Zwei-Dre” was so significant, that in late 1942 Gen. von Richthofen proposed restarting of factory production of this aircraft! Hs123 was very manuevrable, sturdy aircraft, easy-to fly for novice pilot. It was almost the only german aicraft, who could fly in extreme weather conditions during winter ‘41/42 at Moscow and winter 42/43 at Stalingrad.  It could suffer lots of combat damage and return his pilot pack home. True beloved by its pilots, Hs123 produced a share of aces,  most of them became top-experten of Close-support branch of Luftwaffe. No one other Luftwaffe unit could proud of simultaneous awarding of RitterKreuz of all Commanding officers of Gruppe – that case was TWICE in Hs123 unit (II./LG2) – in june 1940 and aug.1941 all StaffelKapitans and Gruppenkomandeur were awarded with RK.

Hs123 served at Kuban battle ’43 and Kursk’43, last four aircrafts were scrapped-off following evacuation from Crimea in may 1944. They were the longest frontline-serving combat aircrafts of Luftwaffe!

Do-17Z-2

Loved by its Crews, “Flying pencil” was last used by frontline bomber units just in first stages of Battle of Moskow.

Ju87B-2

Famous StuKa, “Bertha”, was main dive-bomber of Luftwaffe during 1939-41. Was in action even in mid-1942, when it was replaced with Ju87D.

Bf110D-3.

post-1464-0-14859200-1465067083_thumb.jpg

This  most numerical variant of Bf110D was in production lines from July 1940 to march 1941. Of 449 Bf110D built, 254 were built as D-3's. Also, during a war, most of D-0, D-1 and D-2's were converted to D-3 variant.

Bf110D-3 saw active service with almost all Zerstorer units in Battle of Britain, Balkans and Eastern front operations trough 1941 and 1942. During Battle of Moscow, more than a half of aircrafts of I & II./ZG26 and II./SKG210 were "Dora's". Even in the beginning of 1943, with all 3 still-existing Gruppen (I./ZG1, II./ZG1 and III./ZG26) were converting to Bf110G-2, Bf110D-3 was used at the front-line duties up to Battle of Kursk (summer 1943, with I./ZG1).

Main difference of D-3 and E-2 (modeled in Il-2:BoM) are:

-D-3 had no underwing bombracks for SC50 bombs

-D-3 had no cockpit heating/ventilating equipment (no air-intake on nose-section)

-D-3 had emergency dinghy inside enlarged tail-cone.

-D-3 had smaller diameter of main wheels and tail wheel.

-D-3 had early variant of gunner and navigator/observer seats

Yak-1 series 20 (with M105PA, 1941)

Eaarly version of Yak-1. Competent with MiG-3, but somekind worse then Bf109F.

LaGG-3 series 4 (with M105P, 1941)

LaGG-3 with 1x20mm ShVAK, 1x12,7mm UBS and 2x7,62 ShKAS + 6xRS-82. This beast had the most massive firepower among all Soviet fighters.

I-153 M-62

This Y-winged biplane was largely used up to Stalingrad battle, mainly as light assault aircraft. But during Battle of Moscow, it was extencively used as a PVO fighter.

Hurricane Mk.II (British lend-lease)

Hurricane (with english and Soviet armament) served well from 1941 to 1942, when this outdated fighter was recalled from frontline service.

P-40B Tomahawk (lend-lease)

Early version of P-40, was in action in late '41 - early '42 in BoM.

DB-3M

Early version of famous bomber, with M-88 engines and cut nose.

Pe-3bis

Pe-3 and Pe-3bis was widely used during Battle of Moskow as a heavy fighter and assault aircraft. After BoM, it was used mainly as long-range recoon aircraft.

Additional Premium aircrafts for Battle of Stalingrad:

Bf110F-2

post-1464-0-83519300-1465066965_thumb.jpg

Bf110F-2 saw active service with all Zerstorer units in southern (Kharkov-Woroshilovgrad-Stalingrad-Novorossijsk, with I and II./ZG1) and northern (Murmansk, with13.(Z)/JG5) sectors of Eastern front, and in MTO (with III./ZG26) during spring 1942 to spring 1943, when it was replaced with Bf110G-2.

Of 512 Bf110F produced, 190 aircrafts were built as Bf110F-2 (day Zerstorer), and further 85 Bf110F-4 (supposed to be night-fighters) were delivered to day-Zerstorer units, as had no difference with F-2.

Main difference of F-2 and E-2 (modeled in Il-2:BoM) are:

-F-2 had new engine – DB601E/F (same as in Bf109F-4), new spinner  hub and airscrew.

-new engine made possible crazy payloads for such bird, like SC1000 + SD250!

-F-2 had an option of installing a “WB151/20”, so-called “Waffenwanne” under belly, containing two MG151/20 guns with 200 rounds per gun.

-anti-turnover head-protecting steel frame above pilots seat.

Hs129B-2

post-1464-0-89260900-1465067109_thumb.jpg

A must have aircraft for Stalingrad battle.  The only specialized low-level armored assault aircraft of Luftwaffe, evolved in tank-buster.  Was in action during 1942-1945, participating almost all main battles of that period – Crimea’42, Kharkov’42, Stalingrad’42-‘43, Kuban’43, Kursk’43, Kiev’43, Bagration’44, Romania’44, and so on.

Hs129B-1 suffered engine overheating problems, which were resolved with reworking engine cowling and exhaust tubes in B-2 model. Also, B-2 had new radio-equipment, which could be easy recognized with deletion of antenna-mast from fuselage top.

In 1942, Hs129B’s usually flew with small-caliber bombs under fuselage and underwing racks, and in late 1942 began converting to MK101 anti-tank guns. From december 1942, MK101 became standart for Hs129, as all 5 Hs129-equipped Staffeln were reorganized as “PanzerJager” Staffeln (4 & 8. (Pz.)/Schl.G.1 , 4. & 8. (Pz.)/Schl.G.2 and 13.(Pz.)/JG51).

M.C.200 Saetta (Italian)

Main Italian fighter of Eastern front from autumn 1941 to autumn 1942. During Stalingrad Battle, Saetta-equipped squadrons fought between Voronezh sector (Hungarian-held) and Northern-Stalingrad sector (Romanian held). Also, Saetta was largely used by Italian air forces in MTO in 1941-43.

IAR-81A (Romanian)

Probably the most-known Romanian aircraft, IAR80/81 fighter-bomber soldiered Eastern Front through 1941 and 1942 as a light dive-bomber and close-support aircraft. After last IAR’s returned from Stalingrad in early 1943, it was used only in Home-Defense duties against USAAF bombers and escort fighters.

MÁVAG Heja I (Hungarian)

Hungarian fighter during “pre-Messerschmitt era” of Italian origins (originally Re.2000). Flew extensively during summer and autumn 1942 at Voronezh sector of Eastern Front.

A-20B Boston (lend-lease)

Boston with soviet turrets with 12,7mm UB - was powerfull, fast and handfull medium bomber. Was widely used through the war by VVS over almost all fronts. Was loved by its crews.

Yak-7B M105PF (1942)

Very interesting fighter - a little bit heavier, then Yak-1, but had two 12,7mm UBS instead ov ShKAS and a more powerfull and sturdy airframe. Bore a brund of aircombat over Stalingrad in 1942.

Airacobra I (British lend-lease, early 1942)

It was British P-39, with Hispano 20mm cannon and 6 MGs. Was used at Voronezh front (NW from Stalingrad) with quite success. Last operational losses of Bf110-equipped ZG2 occured 2 days before official start of BoS - 15 july, 3 Bf110 of ZG2 were shot down by Airacobra I's.

The idea is very good. Perhaps to make it viable they should start slow and release pairs of aircraft first. Pe-3 and Bf-110D for example, or I-153 and Hs-123 and so on. :)

In your opinion, which ones would you say are the single most essential ones for each side, per battle?

PS: Bf-110G-2 doesn't count

Most "missed" aircrafts IMHO:

For BoM:

Ju-87B and early LaGG-3 as main aircrafts of battle, but strangely missed in Planeset

For BoS:

Bf110F-2 and Yak-7B as main aircrafts of battle, but strangely missed in Planeset

I would go for the Pe-3bis instead of the LaGG-3, but otherwise the same selection. :)

Some of the other aircraft could come as premium for future theatres though, which makes them very versatile.

An interesting note on the Hs-123, there were reports by Soviet pilots of them operating during the Jassy-Kishinev Offensive in August 1944! While I can't verify them, it certainly serves as testament to its workhorse reputation.

No, last Hs123 was lost at Crimea.

In Romania, it was just misidentification with some Romanian aircrafts.

Tough decision between the Ju-87 B and Hs-123, but the later is probably even more underrated and deserves it's debut in a new simulation (+ I imagine biplanes to be awesome in BoS). Also fits nicely as a contender for the BoM I-16. :)

Another fun fact about this aircraft: It occurred that the engine produced a terrible rambling noise similar to machinegun fire when running at a certain RPM (1700 as far as I know). Pilots discovering this destinctive feauture used it to terrify ground troops and convoys by diving on them even after having run out of bullets and bombs.

Would be awesome if this could be simulated in some way.

Not fair to chose only one from each game. I want them all! :)

None of those types listed are of any interest...

... but I'd pay for seaplanes. :)

Id buy some, but definitely not the variants of the ones we already have. The only one i thought it was worth it was the Bf 109E.

Posted (edited)

I voted! Chose hs-123 and 110f. Tricky last choice the last one. I wanted the 129 to, but the f2 as well... Chose the latter, because i think that is the one i will actually use. The 129 in 1946 was a flying brick!

Hope, in future, we will have Bf110G-2 with Bk 3.7 :)

ZG1 had dedicated antitank squadron - Pz.Jg.Staffel./ZG1, operated at Kursk '43.

HS 129, DB3, DO 17, A-20 Havoc/ Boston and as the author says, IL 4 . It is just not fair not having the IL 4 in this game

Hurricane (no WW2 sim is complete without one), IAR-86A, Aircobra, Bf110F-2, Hs123 and M.C.200 without second thought.

Guys, If You vote for NONE / OTHER, could You write here, what other aircraft do You want in BoS/BoM?

Posted

Id like to vote for "Forgotten planes" DLC. Those that are always omitted in CFS games because they lack "cool" factor. Without them it is just mindless furball in-between "top dogs" that becomes rather dull after short time.

Bad idea. 10-aircraft set of Addons are enough. I will not buy.

I'd like to go with this one if you don't mind ... :P

Posted

I don't like the idea of having to buy all these planes separately, without a new map and new campaign.
For the missing early war plane types I would prefer an Operation Barbarossa addon in the future, maybe with a map of the Smolensk area. Some of the later plane types mentioned above would fit well into a Kursk or Kuban addon.

We have to hope that at least 10 of your excellent list are included in whatever comes next; then the remainder really might stand a chance as extra single plane purchases.

Cheers.
